GAME PREVIEW & SERIES REVIEW
Since districts were released, fans across the state marked this game on their calendars the past two years. Two of the state's winningest programs renew a budding rivalry as #4 Longview travels to #3 Highland Park for the second part of their two game series in district play. The two programs previously had not met since their 1986 5A Regional playoff match up when the Lobos ran for a playoff school record 496 yards on the Scots, in a 41-14 beatdown. Last season, the two teams met at Lobo Stadium that saw the Lobos fall at home for the first time in 21 contests with the Scots holding on for an 18-13 defensive battle victory. It was head coach John King's second district home loss since arriving to Longview High. The Scots will be facing an even more impressive streak, as Highland Park looks to hold onto a district home winning streak that dates back to 1998. Scots' head coach Randy Allen has yet to lose a single home district playoff game in his 24 seasons at the helm of the state's winningest program. In fact, Randy Allen has just two home losses in his entire career at home. The last home loss came in 2019, as the Lone Star Rangers defeated Highland Park 30-19. Last week, the Lobos saw their most impressive victory of the year as the result was never in doubt in a 56-0 win over Wylie East. It marked the 199th victory at this version of Lobo Stadium. Highland Park sought off an unexpected challenge at Sherman on Thursday fternoon, before pulling away in the fourth quarter to win 35-17. Both teams have had their struggles this season. Longview opened the 2021 season with a crushing 41-7 defeat to the defending 5A Division I state champions while Highland Park opened their season with a similar crushing defeat in a 45-21 loss to 6A Division II state finalist, Southlake Carroll. Since the opening losses, both teams have had up and downs but have managed to win every game on their schedule as the Lobos enter at 5-1 and the Scots enter at 4-1. The Lobos come into Highlander Stadium riding a 13-game road district winning streak, with the last road district loss coming in 2017 when Mesquite Horn knocked off the Lobos, 52-34. That contest marked just the second game in Lobo history that a DFW team had score 50 or more points on the Lobos. Longview and Highland Park have had a short but memorable series, with Friday's game being just the 9th meeting between the two schools. The Lobos and Scots met in 1924, the first playoff game in Longview football history. Highland Park walked away with that victory, 20-0, at Ownby Stadium. The first time Longview ever visited a version of Highlander Stadium came in 1938 where the defending 1A State Champions saw the Scots pull away in the 4th quarter to defeat the Lobos, 26-6. Longview got some version of revenge the next season in 1939, when Charles Sapp rushed in for the Lobo score in a 6-0 victory at old Lobo Stadium. After a 1962 victory for the Scots at Lobo, the two teams started a two game series in 1966 and 1967. In 1966, Steve Judy got the scoring started for the Lobos in the first quarter but the Scots proved to be too much racking up 23 first downs and 263 rushing yards in a 33-14 Scot victory in Longview's last visit to old Highlander Stadium. In 1967, the Lobos would prove to the state they were for real in a dominating 37-22 victory at Lobo Stadium over the Scots. The last two match ups came in the previously mentioned 1986 encounter and last season's meeting. This will be Longview's first ever visit to the new Highlander Stadium. No doubt it will be one for the ages as the Lobos and Scots meet in what should be for the district championship, one more time.

Hoping my Bos win.

But alot will have to go our way.

Not having Buddha or Sublett in the secondary is concerning...but at least Boone is back.

The other concern is....well it's beating a dead horse at this point. But the performance at this particular position will make or break this game for Longview.

Highland Park is gonna get some calls at home. There's no doubt about it.

We still had some bone headed penalties last night as well. From seniors at that. We've got to be able to stay calm. They're gonna get their yards, it's HP. But showed last year, we can shut them down at points. And that was a much better offense than this one IMO.

I've talked about this a length it feels this season. Their QB does not like to get touched. He's going to get hit this week. It's just going to happen with our D line. How he reacts will be interesting. He got extremely flustered against Southlake and it showed. Last Thursday, he also got flustered after getting hit, but at that point the game was close to being over already.

Longview can not have the overthrows and underthrows that we've had all season from a certain QB. It will kill us in this game.

I wonder how much home cooking? Will it be obvious or in just key moments. Getting 14+ penalties will not do you justice though

12 is not type of player that gonna go out and win you a game. He's good running the option...not dynamic but adds a element of suprise at times. It's gonna come down to when Longview is in 3rd down and 6... and 8 is doubled. Can he come that primary route and hit 2nd or 3rd option for a first down. That's where this game will be won or lost.

The game of the week no doubt. A lot of eyes will be looking in on this game.

If Longview go in and play good football they win. Stay away from the false starts when HP bring their LB’s up. Longview CB can look to have a good game, they may have their share of opportunities.

This is funny! Everyone  gets mad at me for saying  the same thing with Longview  at home against  Bryant with its home cooking!! Sounds like you are already  to blame the officiating  if you lose. Double standard
