Well.....I've been watching some Kennedale Livestreams.  They may have played some weaker teams, but they played the teams on their schedule with great success.  Guess what?   Kennedale is better than most people think.......they've got a very good D.   Of course you can't really get too enthused over that offense they run, but they ARE very proficient at it  with very good RB's.  They have lots of speed at the skill positions and in their secondary and linebacker positions for sure.  They have no problem making the stops.

Kennedale has averaged right at 45 pts/game this season and has only given up a total of 50 pts in 11 games so far......not too shabby for a predominately running attack.  But they do have a QB that can throw it too.......he looks pretty good throwing it and is accurate.  But they just don't throw that much in their offensive scheme......but they do run the ball very well with those RB's they have.  The whole team on both sides of the ball has very good speed at all positions and they do have some excellent athletes at linebacker and in the secondary.  They have this one big kid #99 Poaso Utu(6-1/195) on the D-line that they move around almost every play.......he's a sack specialist......big and fast and lean.  I bet he's really no less than 6-2/205.......he's very imposing and fast and strong.  He must be quite difficult to block because it seems he's in on every tackle.....even on the kicks.

Okay......my eyes were not deceiving me.  I looked up his stats on their MaxPreps individual defensive stats turned in.  This guy leads the team in tackles with 94, or 8.5 per game......and guess what else?  He has FORTY(40) Tackles for loss, and 18 sacks in 11 games this season.  Waaay more than the next closest guy on the team......their stud LB Antoine Martin(5-11/200) who has 26 TFL's  and 5 sacks......also the next highest on the team.  Kennedale has a really impressive set of LB's and D-backs for sure, and with Utu up front causing so much ruckus every play they don't need much to make stops.  The d-backs get to play the pass with pressure on the QB.......is it any wonder that their team total for interceptions this season is 14???  That's alot......and again my eyes were not deceiving me.  Okay.....Argyle has 17 interceptions so far this season, but that's a very vaunted defense this season.  But Kennedale has Argyle whupped in the sacks category for sure.....Argyle has 18 as a team while Utu alone has 18.  Forget the TFL's.......Argyle has 73 and Kennedale has 160.  I guess the strength of schedule does make a difference.......but still.......Kennedale knows how to apply pressure defensively without a doubt.  They have some players for sure.

Argyle is averaging 45 pts/game also this season, but is allowing right at 17 pts/game against their tougher schedule.  Argyle has scored 27 TD's rushing and 31 TD's passing in 11 games this season.....Kennedale has scored 49 TD's rushing the ball and 5 TD's passing it in 11 games this season.  Argyle has a total offensive yards of 4418 not counting some big return yardage numbers this season.  Kennedale shows they have a total offensive yardage of 3333, and over 2900 of that is running the football.  Argyle has rushed for just over 2000 yds this season, and passed for around 2400 yds, but has a whopping 467 yds in return yardage that accounts for some TD's also.  Their real total exceeds 4800 yds total.

A good defense can offset a high yardage offense and limit it for sure.  A good rushing football team can shorten games and control the football......that's a sort of defense in itself.  Kennedale still puts up the same number of points/game as Argyle this season.....and limits its opponents to less.

We all know that Argyle has played the tougher schedule, but you still have to respect the numbers that Kennedale puts up on defense AND on offense......especially for a running team.  But I'm a little more concerned about their D at this point.......everybody kinda takes it for granted that Kennedale just didn't have to play any tough competition to get here.  Well that's not exactly all there is to consider when the Wildcats have dominated as much as they have this season.......and how much of those stats were full minutes by the starters huh?  My guess is that they have played lots of 2's/3's this season and still have impressive numbers.

Argyle SHOULD be able to "load the box" against Kennedale's rushing attack tomorrow night and diminish some of their offensive firepower.  Argyle's secondary has lots of speed also......so they should be able to match and run down some of those breakaway runs.......some of them.  The real question is how successful will Argyle be offensively against this tough and stingy Kennedale D, Huh?  Their LB's are very good, their secondary seems to be excellent also, and that big Utu guy upfront looks to be unblockable!!  And he's always moving around in a different place almost every down.  Looks like they stunt alot too.  They must......because they have 160 TFL's on the season so far.....Utu has 40 of them!!

On offense, Kennedale's main QB #8 Paul Donkor(6-1/170/Sr) is their trigger man of this offense. He's got the speed, the moves, and the deception needed to run their offensive scheme very successfully.  He can throw it too......even though that's not their bread & butter......he can hit a receiver in stride with a 50 yd pass at anytime.  He looks smooth, and he can do it on the run.  So they do have a "threat" or surprise they can pull out and catch the secondary out of position.....because their receivers are speedy, athletic, and over 6 ft tall.....all of them.

Kennedale also lines up their leading rusher #4 EJ Higgins(5-9/180) as the QB sometimes......but he's mainly a Wildcat QB back there.  Higgins has rushed for 925 yds this season, but Kennedale has about 6 RB's that have accounted for 2650 rushing yds......so they kinda split it up among a bunch of them.  But #4 is most definitely their main dude making the most hay for them.  The next highest yardage (550 yds) belongs to their scatback #21 Jerree Mills(5-5/Sr).....he hides behind those big guys and shoots thru the holes before you can find him.  Naturally......he can run like a tasmanian devil and do the spin moves too.  And they have another back #2 Kenaj Washington that also has about 425 yds......but they have 3 more with over 225 yds each.....so they are very deep in RB's and alternate them.

Argyle has played in a tough district and they have depth. If the players stay focused, they will beat Kennedale.

I sure hope so......but it's always interesting to study the team you are facing before the big game so that you at least know what they have and what to look for.  It makes the game all that much more entertaining to watch and appreciate.

I appreciate your stats on teams.

Exactly.......it gives everybody more information about Kennedale.  Most people already know alot more about Argyle than Kennedale.  Kennedale has quietly built a very successful season this year.......could be a very highly contested and exciting game tomorrow night.  Looks like Kennedale is "under the radar" this season for most fans......yours truly included.

This game will be played in Saginaw at Ranger Stadium at the Chisholm Trail High School.  This is a 6A facility built in 2012 with a 7500+ capacity.  Artificial turf, video scoreboard and nice concessions.  It's a newish facility and very nice.  The location is NW Fort Worth west of I-35 off 820 @ Marine Creek Pkwy. on the north side.  Although Chisholm Trail opened in 2012, there were not a full 4 grades Fr. thru Srs. until 2014.  The school is 6A with over 2000 students.  This is a quality stadium that is a good halfway point for both teams.....about 25 miles for each team.

  • regaleagle changed the title to Kennedale(10-1) vs Argyle(10-1) Friday Night at 7:00 Area Round

Looks like this game will be televised on CW33 in Dallas and also Livestreamed at cw33.com......according to the Argyle Football Twitter.  There's a link there to click to hook you up......Or you could just type it in I guess.  Or in the Dallas area, you could just find the station and watch it on TV.

Time flies ... I don't think they've played in five or six years ... as far back as I can remember, they faced off four times with Argyle winning all four.  The last two have been humdingers ... it will also be interesting that this will be the first time Argyle will face them not in the Eagles' 10-1 Special - although the last time they played Argyle played them in (what us old guys call) a 27 Rover look ... we shall see - Kennedale's defense appears solid, but it may take them a few series or more to adjust to a different level of talent on offense that they have not seen ... we shall see.

I like to "try to compare" Kennedale to Paris.......they have a similar set of athletes and style of play.  Of course Paris is a little more multi on offense, and I think Paris has a better group of players all around.  IF Paris and Kennedale met.......I would have to take Paris in that matchup.

Maybe Kennedale won't be able to hang with Argyle's multi offense tonight......and Argyle is able to do some things to really open up this game.  I'm pretty sure Kennedale will have trouble offensively against a very dominant Argyle defense with the Wildcat's run-heavy offense.......I think Kennedale might be punting the football alot tonight.......I hope that happens.   AND if that does happen........then Argyle will eventually score because Argyle does best when they have plenty of scoring opportunities.  The Eagles just play better the more times they get the ball.  They actually get sharper and more wide open offensively.......the guys on the O-line start blocking better, the backs run better, and the QB passes better.  Giving Argyle lots of downs on offense IS NOT a good idea......so punting to Argyle should be avoided whenever possible.
