If it was mainly race based, then why not just enslave native Americans?  Why go to the trouble to enslave mainly African slaves?

They tried native Americans first but most of them died b/c their bodies did not have any antibodies for European diseases, but Africans on the other hand had been interacting with Europeans for centuries and were not as susceptible to European diseases. That's why they sought out African slaves. Also, Native Americans knew the land well and it was easier for them to escape.

Thanks for proving that it wasn't primarily about race or some deep down hate like msnbc wants everyone to believe.  Like you pointed out, they were used as slaves because they were better suited for the work at hand.....and less likely to escape.  It was a business decision.  A business that I'm glad is no longer around.  At least in America.

The whites in America felt superior to the black Africans which is the definition of slavery., also if it was not about race what was the purpose of Jim Crow? Also if it was not about race why did they try to use Native Americans at first? Why not use Europeans? Why even as slaves prisoners of Wars like other civilizations did in the past?

Feeling superior is the definition of slavery?  Get out of here. As an American I feel we are superior to all other countries.  Has nothing to do with race, but is because of our freedom.  Something you and other socialists types don't value very much.

Purpose of Jim Crow laws was to keep the power where it was.  Definitely some racist elements but primary was power. Same with women voting rights.

So why not use for Europeans? Heck some of them were willing to come and be indentured servants. They could have bred a bunch of Europeans

This is apples to oranges. If slavery wasn't race based, why didn't they enslave more whites? At that time, it was the rich white males who had the power. Most of the examples you gave prove my point. Europeans sought out Africans for slaves. Vikings and Native Americans did what they did out of "nationalism".  No way around it, American slavery was very race based. Find me one non european civilization that enslaved people based solely on race.

East India Slave Trade existed 100 years before slavery in America. Before that all races including Africans were brought to United States  as indentured servants.

Africans were used because the source was already in existence.

Slavery was wrong but to say Rich white dudes in 1697 said lets go enslave Africans because we dont like them is wrong as well

This is my problem with CRT Teaching. They leave out a lot of the details because it would hurt their argument

Ummm...East India company started around 1699.  America was discovered in 1492. Slavery laws in the colonies were passed like in 1640 and that's when indentured servitude ended for blacks in the colonies.  I'm trying to understand what you're trying to say. What is the argument you say "crt" is trying to make?

Good read from the smithsonian

The argument CRT uses is Slavery was invented and used by white people. This is completely wrong. East India Company started in 1500. African tribes were raiding other tribes and selling slaves all over the world.

Virginia was the first state legalize slavery in 1667. It allowed any free man regardless of nationality to become slave owners. It also put thousands of indentured servants regardless of nationality into slavery. This was six years after Mr. Casor lost his case in court. Many believe it was because of his court case. From there it did not take long for other states to follow.

Again slavery was wrong but we have to teach it all

Thanks for the article. Very factual.

The argument CRT uses is Slavery was invented and used by white people.

Have you seen evidence that CRT uses that argument?  No one I heard of have stated that whites invented slavery. I wish you guys would see CRT as the boogie man it is.

East India Company started in 1500.

I'm not understanding your East India Company argument. Plus, they didn't come around till the Early Modern age around 1600.

African tribes were raiding other tribes and selling slaves all over the world.

That's in the history books. Who's telling yall this is not taught?

Costs of all kinds and I'll agree that there was obviously some superiority/racism/ignorance involved.  But if they could have had  gotten a higher quality slave at a lesser cost, the slavers would have not cared about the race.  It was more about economics than race.  We don't have slavery anymore.  Can we not stop making everything about race and try to bring everyone more together?

Have a question for you. Is it outside the realm of possibility that a kid may ask that question when you look at American history? Not trying to be funny, but whites were doing racist stuff in this country during the most historical moments.

That was then and they were Democrats.  This is now, and it's still Democrats that are dividing U.S. by skin color.

Both. Does $$$ being motivation exclude racism?

Are $$$ what keep some white people poor ?  The way CRT makes it out is that all blacks are poor because of white people.  While blacks have the highest percentage of their population that are poor the numbers are far greater for whites.  What's amazing is President Trump reduced poverty levels for all races since records began being kept in 1959.  Poverty Rates for Blacks and Hispanics Reached Historic Lows in 2019 (census.gov) .  I can tell you right now those numbers are going to increase under Biden for all races.  One of the reasons for high poverty is education, and the highest drop out rates are Native Americans followed by Blacks and Hispanics that are tied.  Fast Facts: Dropout rates (16) (ed.gov) .  That isn't caused by $$$, but those that drop out could be motivated by $$$ thinking that they can make more money in the entertainment industry, drug dealing, crime, or all three of those combined.  What races have the most gangs at a teenage to young adult level ?  I only bring that up because I thought about the Good Times episode where Michael is recruited to join the Warlords.  Then of course in todays world we have movies that glorify gang activity.  Young teens are easily impressionable by movies like those.  That also leads to jail time and poverty.  Those are things the government can't control except through law enforcement.

India's Hindu religion basically had slavery based on the caste system.  Other nations also had caste systems such as Japan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Korea, Yemen, and it was also practiced in many African Nations.  Caste system - New World Encyclopedia .  If you were born into the lowest caste you were an untouchable, and were to perform the lowest level of jobs available.  It was basically slavery for thousands of years for people born in the untouchable caste and even seeped into the Sudra which was the next highest caste.

They didn't try to enslave Native Americans first, because they already had black or Irish slaves.  They did later try to enslave Native Americans, but they had another issue other than disease.  As you point out with your last sentence the Seminoles were a prime example of that, because they had the swamps to hide in to a wage a war to remain free.  It's one of the reasons they were never defeated, and weren't sent on the Trail of Tears.

They were using Europeans as well back in the day they were called serfs. They were bound to the land to work for the lord of the land because of who they were born to.  They only way to get out of it was to fight.

We have limited slavery in the U.S., but it still exists.  Prostitution is a form of slavery.  There have been people that also keep their housekeepers bound.  About two years ago there was a couple in the Woodlands that was found guilty of it.  Google the headline couple enslaves housekeeper, and you will find 100's of stories across the U.S. of people being prosecuted.  How many haven't been found out yet ?  Maps | Global Slavery Index

They at least got something out of the deal though. It was horrible nonetheless but they weren't bred or had families separated.
