It's painful that a school with a rich history of excellence isn't overrun with qualified applicants for this position, maybe the powers will find the right man and a rite fit to bring the Grove back to the position it deserves...chain out ✌️

I haven’t heard anything but I feel like they’ll have quality applicants. “Overrun” I have no clue. But their junior high bunch was good and I think their Varsity was just really young.

Wish them well. Looking forward to playing them Week 5!

"Rich history of excellence"? More like a "rich history of mediocrity". Were "great" with Rodney Thomas. If they get the right candidate they have a great chance to have a good season followed by a poor season on a consistent basis.

Top 5 winningest team of all time in 2A has to at least be considered above mediocrity.

You need to expand your time horizon and learn more about Groveton's history.

Yep, just like "Hull Daisetta". How frequently have they had 3 winning seasons in a row since Rodney Thomas?

It is literally part of the website you are using. Have not had much success recently, we all know that. But we are talking historically..........

Understood. Looks like 30 years of mediocrity. Interested in how many times they have had "three winning seasons in a row". Good-bad-good-bad= "mediocrity".

Ever........ of all time.....

We all agree that many decades ago, Groveton was very good (similar to Hull Daisetta). Wondering about the timeframe that most in the forum were alive or able to drive a car. Call it the last three decades which should give us a good perspective on the track record. How many times has Groveton had three consecutive winning seasons? If the answer is somewhere around "0" or "1", we can discern that Groveton has a modern history of "mediocrity".

This is a strange hill to die on...

You took exception with a post that claimed "a rich history of excellence," offering the counterexample of the Rodney Thomas era (late 1980s), but when evidence proved the initial poster's point, you then shifted goalposts to represent "the last 30 years," and then again shifted to the strange qualifier of "a good season followed by a poor season."

What's really your beef with Groveton?

Agreed, Initial post acknowledged that Groveton was "great" with Rodney Thomas and later clarified that they were very good several decades ago. In the last three decades they have been mediocre. Not much, just three consecutive decades of mediocrity but they were the picture of "excellence 30-60 years ago".

Okay, so the initial poster's point stands. Got it.

A "rich history of excellence" can mean anything from "excellence 30-60 years ago" to a sustained winning record for the last 30 years. This is rural 2A ball we're talking about here. It's all subjective.

I'm trying to understand how Hull Daisetta and Groveton were ever similar?? Enrollment perhaps... 907
