Maus Banned by Tennessee School District

It’s not the historical information of the Holocaust that got the book banned, it’s nude photos and language inappropriate for a HS library.  There are many award winning books that shouldn’t be available in a school library for photos, language, or graphic sexual content.

It's a graphic novel, and the naked woman is a MAUS. 🙄

And, I actually showed Schindler's List to classes years ago, with parents able to opt out their students. None did.

“It shows people hanging, it shows them killing kids, why does the educational system promote this kind of stuff? It is not wise or healthy,” School Board Member Tony Allman said about the book, which was part of the district’s eighth-grade English language arts curriculum.

....

The Tennessee school board emphasized in the minutes that they did not object to teaching about the Holocaust but some were concerned the work was not age-appropriate.

So where’s the line?  Do we show kids pornography?  Who decides?  Kudos to you for asking parent’s permission.  I think Schindler’s List is a great movie.

Dimnuts all for censoring scientists and doctors they don't agree with.  But this lol

What a snowflake reply. Let me guess, you’re the type of parent who only wants your child to learn that everything in history was great and peaceful so as not to harm their fragile little minds. You’re naïve if you think 8th graders don’t see and speak much worse than what’s in the book.

Who said that?  I quoted the article to give some actual context as why they didn't want the book shown to pre-teens.  I didn't say I was for censoring it.  Dimnuts think conservatives are for censoring the history of the  Holocaust?   Quite the opposite.

You want to know who downplayed the Holocaust?  Dimnuts!

https://historynewsnetwork.org/article/10903

The reason is that the American media in general and the New York Times in particular never treated the Holocaust as an important news story. From the start of the war in Europe to its end nearly six years later, the story of the Holocaust made the Times front page only 26 times out of 24,000 front-page stories, and most of those stories referred to the victims as “refugees” or “persecuted minorities.” In only six of those stories were Jews identified on page one as the primary victims.

Nor did the story lead the paper, appearing in the right-hand column reserved for the day’s most important news – not even when the concentration camps were liberated at the end of the war. In addition, the Times intermittently and timidly editorialized about the extermination of the Jews, and the paper rarely highlighted it in either the Week in Review or the magazine section.

Your little “But this lol” response shows pretty clear that you think it should be censored. Besides, these were 8th graders. Not pre-teens.

No, the but this means you worry about something trivial but don't worry about something that could affect the whole world.  Like censoring dissenting scientific opinions.  And by the way read above.  Dimnuts censored the Holocaust.  Not conservatives.  Guess you don't want to discuss that small issue.

It's for educational purposes. I remember when Schindler's list was play uncut on network tv when I was a kid. When I teach about the renaissance, just about every piece of art has nudity and this is a mouse they're complaining about.

Do you really think conservatives as a group are trying to downplay the holocaust?  You think conservatives don't want their children to know how it goes when SOCIALISM goes too FAR?  Quite the opposite, but you dimnuts cherry pick one story and try to turn the truth around.  A lot like happens with racism.

So that example excuses the rights wrongs? Interesting 🤔

Tell me why these folks are wrong.  You think conservatives don't want their kids to know about Hitler and killing of the jews?  It is exactly the opposite and this is one story of some folks that don't want their eighth graders to see that much violence and nudity.  Why do you have a problem with that?
