"handling of Marshall".....sorry but I am not buying it...Marshall was their own worst enemy in the first half.  Hallsville can't stop anyone.  Marshall should have put 50 on the board.

if ifs and buts were candy and nuts then everyday would be Christmas

STANDINGS
Texas High (5-1), (2-0)
Hallsville (5-2), (2-1)
Marshall (4-3), (2-1)
Whitehouse (5-1), (1-1)
Pine Tree (1-6), (1-2)
Nacogdoches (1-6), (1-2)
Mount Pleasant (1-6), (0-2)

Week 7 Scores
Hallsville beat Nacogdoches 49-24
Marshall beat Mount Pleasant 36-7
Whitehouse beat Pine Tree 44-31
Texas High- OFF

This is quickly becoming a 4 team race for the playoffs.  Texas High is all along in first place.  Hallsville has the current tie-breaker for second place over Marshall and Whitehouse is in sole possession of fourth place.

Week 8 Schedule
Whitehouse Vs. Hallsville-  Game of the week.  Bobcats look to keep their edge for the #2 spot.  Whitehouse looking to make a log-jam for second place.

Marshall Vs. Texas High-   Tigers are heavy favorites; especially at home.  Mavs haven't won in Texarkana since 2018.

Nacogdoches Vs. Mount Pleasant- MP is on life support and a loss all but eliminates the Tigers from the playoff chase.  A Nac loss puts them on life support, but a win keeps their hopes very much alive.

Pine Tree- OFF

7-5A Standings
Lovejoy (4-2, 3-0)
Melissa (4-2, 3-0)
Crandall (5-1, 2-1)
Terrell (2-4, 1-2)
Denison (3-3, 1-2)
Greenville (2-4, 1-2)
Mesquite Poteet (1-5, 1-2)
Princeton (1-5, 0-3)

Still a lot to be decided in this district.  Lovejoy and Melissa will likely decide the district championship in the final game of the season barring some upsets in the next two weeks.

Crandall and Denison appear to be headed into a battle for the 3/4 slots.

If the playoffs were to start NOW.... this is what first round games would look like.....

Whitehouse at Lovejoy/Melissa winner
Marshall at Lovejoy/Melissa loser
Denison/Crandall winner at Hallsville
Denison/Crandall loser at Texas High

While I agree the T-High Tigers are favorites, I disagree on “Heavily”. I anticipate a slugfest. The winner will be determined by the line play (specifically the DL) of each team. I was impressed by the running attack of Marshall and have been likewise impressed by T-High’s. (I think we have scheduled the officials from your MP game 😎).

Nac fan, explain how Nacogdoches looks like one team against Whitehouse, and looks terrible against everyone else.

We were the better team against whitehouse but we also lost our starting running back on the last play. We still have kids hurt on a team that didn’t have much depth to begin with. We run two different offenses with two different quarterbacks.  So most of our offense plays defense it’s tiring.

Marshall struggles to consistently rise to the occasion in big games.

We will surprise people occasionally and win games we aren’t favored in….. like Rudder last season.  McNorth last season.

Then we lay an egg in others…. Like THS last season….and Hallsville this season.

We’ve not proven we can consistently rise to the occasion of big games.

Im really pleased with the way our offense continues to grow.  The running game is becoming more and more consistent.  And Slone is quietly putting together a solid season at QB with 700 yards passing.

Defense has been great in some games…. Terrible in others.

Longview, Carthage, and Hallsville did whatever they wished offensively.

But they have also held several teams to less than 100 yards rushing. Tyler, Henderson, Pine Tree, Mount Pleasant.

Inconsistent.

Coach Alvarez is doing a great job.  Pretty happy for a first year in his system.  Would have been easy to just squat in a new system.  We haven’t done that.  But definitely some growing pains though.

Inconsistent yes...but also consistent in that y'all struggle against good to great teams, while dominate the bad ones.

Longview/Carthage/Hallsville are a combined 18-2.

Tyler/Henderson/Pine Tree/Mount Pleasant are a combined 4-21.

Can't argue that.

But I think there's a difference in the three losses.

We weren't competitive against Longview and Carthage.  Hallsville game is another story.

Where will Texas High fit?  Another dominating loss like Carthage and Longview?  Or a nailbiter WINNABLE game like Hallsville?

THS is a heavy favorite in my opinion.  Especially at home.

Pine Tree- OFF

Hallsville - environment will be great. Hallsville too powerful on offense.

Texas High - balanced offense and talented in all phases

Mount Pleasant - battle of the bottom. MP finds a way to limp out with a district win.

Pirates win big.

For Marshall to win this game they have to play the best defense that they have played all year against a team the same caliber as Longview or Carthage.  Remember, THS played Longview even in their preseason scrimmage and it was Longview's second scrimmage and the Tiger's first and only.  No one is unbeatable but if THS is on their game, at home, it is going to be a difficult task for Marshall Friday night.  The Mavs could get a 50 piece put on them very quickly.

I agree with everything you said but this.

Our defense will need a huge game to have any chance.

Winning at Grim is a tall order.  it’s been a nightmare for us.

If we come out sputtering…. THS will run us out of the stadium.

But I’m not sold that THS is at Longview’s or Carthage’s level.  Neither of those teams appear to have fatal flaws.  They are solid in every position on the field with depth to boot.    There’s no way either of them give up 27 to MP , 31 to Hallsville, 35 to Benton, or 38 to Lone Star.

That’s the one chink in THS’ armor….their defense.

If Marshall can take advantage….. it could be interesting. If they can’t…. Tigers win big.

Nac ran a great offensive game plan against Whitehouse and Hallsville than they have in any of the other games. The Hallsville game changed with 1 minute left in the half when Nac got called for a block in the back on the kickoff that backed them up inside the 10 and had to give Hallsville the ball back on our side of the 50. They scored to go up 28-17 before the half and then got the ball to start the second and scored to turn a 4 point game into a 18 point game very quick. This shook Nac out of running the ball. Moving from shotgun wishbone to 5 wide receiver sets and throwing INTS in the second half.

Nac isn't out yet but this week against Mt P is a must win for any hope to remain. They also hold the tiebreaker against WH in the event of a tie for the 4th spot. Nac has to stay with the running game and mix in the pass, when they are put into the position to drop back 25 times they will throw ints and lose. Not that the 4th spot is much of reward, with Lucas Lovejoy or Melissa waiting for whoever is in 4th.

The season has definitely been a disappointment.

Longview had spring football, so no, we did not have a second scrimmage.

Our freshmen squads are allowed two scrimmages yes. But that's across the board.

Did we play evenly? For the second part of it, sure. First part was completely dominated by Longview. But regardless, it's a scrimmage.

I agree with Mavchamp that it's hard for me to say y'all are on Longview or Carthage's level this season considering the results. Best win is the Colleyville Heritage game, a team that just got absolutely roasted by their rivals not more than two weeks ago. Lone Star loss also is not aging well after their losses to Reedy and Wakeland imo.

Agree that Texas High defense keeps them from bein on the level of both teams mentioned this year.... . Offense idk you’d have to say they are at least just as good either team.... Startin Qb went down after 2 1/2 games he had over 800 yards passing and 7 TD’s...sophomore comes in and has thrown for over 700 yards 10 tds to 1 int in 3 1/2 games . sit at around 1200 yards running the ball.

also agree that CH / LS teams weren’t all that great after seeing them..outside of two 60 yard bombs colleyville didn’t move the ball but that’s kinda been the way defense has played all year ...penalties and special teams got them beat vs Lone Star.

Hallsville/ Benton scored points but in both games defense was put in some bad spots by the offense and special teams on a few drives , can be tough on a D with a lot of new faces they still played pretty good vs the run....came down to 4th and goal on a couple of Hallsville scoring drives...they gave up 3 to Tyler Legacy and starters gave up 14 to Mount Pleasant.

Crandall/Denison and then probably Ennis followed by Lovejoy would be first 3 rounds in the playoffs imo... defense will have to show up in all 3 games

For what it's worth, I do think Texas High is a solid team for sure. They will win district, again, and should have a good run in the post season.

Just think it's stupid to use a scrimmage as an example of why a certain team is at the same caliber of team as other others in the regular season.
