StingEmALTO
Today we lay to earthly rest our #13 Vonte. Please continue to pray for the family and these young men and friends who are hurting so badly. Gonna be a tough day. We are so thankful for the outpouring of love and support for the Mumphrey family and our Alto community. It’s overwhelming really. The kind gestures and tributes that have been shown at many, many schools across East Texas this week have been amazing. We feel the love looking through all the social media posts. Special thanks to Rusk ISD for allowing us the use of their Coliseum for the service today. They are such good neighbors. They did the same in 2015 with Cam’ron. It would’ve been nice to have it in our new Coliseum but we are about 3 weeks out from it being finished. Vonte was so looking forward to playing in that new gym. Also to the Rusk Baseball team who wore t-shirts donated by a local Rusk construction company to wear at their scrimmage last night vs Nacogdoches. That meant a lot. Thanks also to Douglass, Woden, and Hudson who had shirts made with Vonte’s number on the back to wear during their pre-game warmups. They also had 13 seconds of silence as a remembrance before the Douglass/Woden game. To New Summerfield and Garrison for huddling afterwards in support of Vonte’s family and raising a t-shirt in that huddle that someone had made. To Kennard for leaving a chair empty at their game vs Laneville and draping an Alto Family shirt on it. Also thanks to Kennard for the generous donation that their kids and staff had collected and a teacher brought to Coach Deckard with a signed poster. These are just sports examples, and ones that I know of. So many schools had district wide black and gold dress up days. I know Cushing collected supplies and gift cards for the Mumphrey family…. There’s no way to take away the hurt, but it sure does ease it a little to see your neighbors loving on you. I didn’t mean to leave anyone out and if you know of a school and would like to share, please do. Meandering thoughts on a cold, rainy Saturday morning that’s not a normal Saturday for our community. God bless all of you and thanks again. 3 2

StingEmALTO
More tributes to Vonte and much appreciated. Hemphill basketball honored his memory by wearing Alto t-shirts they had made with “13” on the back. I thought that was really something, especially for senior night. Also, at the Alto baseball game last night, Garrison wore black and gold ribbons on the sleeve of their baseball shirts. I didn’t get a pic. Douglass girls basketball also wore t-shirts they had made during their warmups at the playoff game vs. Overton. It was a week ago yesterday that it happened and let me tell you….last night and all day yesterday it was weighing on my mind as time ticked down. Continued prayers appreciated.
StingEmALTO
Last night Alto played at Beckville in a baseball scrimmage. The Beckville baseball team wore t-shirts that honored Vonte Mumphrey and our Alto family. Such a nice tribute. The teams gathered after the scrimmage and took a knee, arm in arm to pray for the Mumphrey family. The scripture on the back of the shirt was 1 Corinthians 16:13 “Be on your guard. Stand firm in your faith. Be courageous. Be strong.” Also the front of the shirt read “WE ARE SMALL TOWN TOUGH” with the Beckville and Alto logos. So true. THANK YOU BECKVILLE BEARCATS! 1
