Argyle inbounds and a charge by Lumsden of Argyle away from the ball???   Canyon gets a turnover on the call.  Canyon misses.  Argyle takes it down.  Coach Westmoreland calls a timeout for Argyle.....their final timeout down by 2.

Only 1:10 left......off the hands of Lyles and out of bounds on the inbounds as a Canyon player tipped it and it hit Lyles hands then went out of bounds.  Thomas is now fouled.....a one and one.  She sinks the first one.....and it is good. Canyon with a 4 point lead with 50 secs left.

GAbby Campbell fouls with her 5th......she had to do it.  To send Canyon to the line.  Willeford off the mark and Argyle rebounds.  Down the court, to Lyles she makes a move off the right side and puts it in with a foul. Tie game and timeout Canyon.

Lyles at the line now.....no timeouts left.  Campbell's foul on Willeford was key to this whole situation to set this up. She converts the free throw......Canyon with the final shoot.  Misses.....Argyle with the rebound and down the court.  Argyle down the court to Crabtree and she puts it up at the buzzer.  Argyle wins.....but now the refs are deliberating on the shot Crabtree took for Argyle.  Only 3/10 second left......she should just miss the free throws.

Here's the final free throw......after a timeout by Canyon.  She throws it against the backboard hard that will do it.  Argyle comes out with the win in a crazy gritty finish.  Comes back 4 points down with no timeouts and 30 seconds remaining.  Very quiet in the gym now.

Argyle 34   Canyon 32

Final

This will be the very best defense Argyle will have faced all season......unbelievable credit to Canyon as both teams looked all season toward this thrilling game.  Maybe the best win for Argyle girls in its history.....considering who it was against and what Argyle did to win this Semifinal.

The Decatur Lady Eagles defeat Seminole 50-47 to advance to the Region 1 Final in Lubbock against Argyle tomorrow.  This will be the 3rd time this season these two district 7 4A foes will play......Argyle has won both games this season.

Argyle should be favored to win this Region 1 Final......but both teams know each other so well that Decatur has a very good chance for the upset.  It is very difficult to win 3 times against a high quality opponent in basketball all in the same season.  Decatur will have a very good idea how to attack Argyle.......probably will try to double team Lyles and let the rest of Argyle's starters try to win without her.  Or maybe try to get Lyles in foul trouble......that has not happened all season.

Lyles is indeed a very special player, but the other players for Argyle can play some serious ball too.  Crabtree, Lumsden, and Campbell can flat knock down those 3 pointers if you leave them free.  Bacon can hurt you inside.....as can Millington or Bennett if they are in there. All three of them stand 5-11 or 6-0, and can play.

Argyle has not "gone off" with 3-point shooting so far in these playoffs......except for the First Round.  They have played conservative and under control......playing tough defense and maintaining control of the ball.  But if they do start shooting from the outside and passing that ball back outside to the open player on drives inside......then lookout!  The 3s will start raining in and the game could turn into a shooting and scoring battle.

The Argyle Boys(25-6) defeated Brownwood(24-9) last night in the Area Round 70-28.  Now Argyle stands at (26-6) on the season with some early quality losses to the larger schools in tournament play.  They have now won 14 in a row. They are the defending State Champs from 2021 and Co-Champs from 2020 as that Final Four was never played. They lost one game last season and went (29-1) against a very tough schedule. In 2020, they were (26-4) when the season was called as the 4 teams had gathered at the Alamodome to play. They called it the morning the two games were to begin.

Hartman makes the AND ONE free throw to take it to 11-7.  Now Hartman scores again on a 5-0 run.  11-9 now.  Argyle scores again on their trip down.....13-9 now.  Decatur has the last possession.  6 secs and Argyle inbounding....Lyles fires at the horn......off the rim.

End of 1st qtr.            Argyle 13        Decatur 9

Really good game going on here......back and forth scoring and very tight.  Decatur has their first lead of the game 22-20 with 1:40 left in the half.  Decatur hitting down their shots every trip down now. Now Lyles ties it up.

Turnovers with good defense by both teams......Argyle not hitting their shots.  Bacon puts it in as she beats the buzzer for Argyle.  Argyle leads going into halftime.

Argyle 25         Decatur 22           Halftime

Gabby Campbell of Argyle leads all scorers at 10 points.     She is just a sophomore and is playing in her 80th game.

Decatur seems to be controlling the pace so far......the Argyle asst. coach said at halftime that Argyle is not playing well so far.  They are not sharp at all......lots of missed shots and not rebounding well at all.  They are just not into their normal game in this one so far, but have managed to hang in there against a very hot Decatur shooting the ball.  Decatur is outrebounding Argyle in this game and has come back from the slow start to control the pace.
