Japan is even worse with their coffin apartments.  Japan's Coffin Houses (thetinylife.com)

Now I have this 80's song in my head and when the thought process began with socialism :

What system doesn't have the top 2% with all the money?

With capitalism the top 2% changes over time and those below rise as well.

Exactly why we once had a middle class.  With socialist policies added to our Governments economic plan our Middle Class is dying.

That's not how capitalism is presented though. That 2% doesn't change too often but it does indeed change. Let's be real, the only people that break through that 2% are extraordinary people which is cool but it's presented as something that's attainable by anyone, which is true but WAY too many obstacles in the way placed by the elite to keep it from happening more often than it should.

I don't care how it's presented,  I only care how it works.

List the 2%ers from capitalist countries and identify how they received their wealth.  100% of them created something that others VOLUNTARILY purchased to make them wealthy.

The flip side on government heavy commies and socialist is this; the majority of those in power and wealth (the 2%ers) got their money by imposing their will on others, usually behind the force of violence.

Ever heard of slavery? Remember back in the industrial revolution when workers tried to strike for better conditions and the corporations had cops beat and kill some employees. Remember capitalist European countries killing Asians and Africans for more resources? Iraq war? Monopolies?sweatshops.

So we're going to ignore ALL of this? Gthoh.

And that was today?

Make the same list for socialist and communist leaders.  If you're going to make your cute little list at least do it for both sides.

Which countries ended the atrocities you listed? Was it socialist countries? No,  no it wasn't.  It was the awful capitalist countries that ended those.

You're welcome

You don't have to be in the top 2% to have a good life.  We get fixated on the fact that there are some extremely rich people out there and think because we aren't one that something needs to be done.  That's just a form of jealousy.  I am far from that top 2% and I live a great life.

No system has lifted more people out of poverty than free market capitalism.  Ask the Indian and Asian immigrants who come from families that moved here with nothing a generation or two ago who are not thriving entrepreneurs.

The post was in reply to someone talking about the 2% changing. How does jealousy factor into that. I was responding and staying on topic with the previous poster.

So you really think capitalism is the only system that lifts people out of poverty. So if you're born poor in mixed economies, you stay poor? Norway, Denmark...etc.

Also, Capitalism has created poverty all over the world. Including here.

Dave, not the best example. We personally made sure Japan was a capitalist country after WWII. Kinda goes against the argument.

ummm....Kirk, what year was it when you were in the military again? I think that would play a huge role in the condition. Please don't tell me it was before the fall of the Berlin Wall lol

I was in Germany last in the late 90s ... please don't try to tell me conditions there have vastly improved since then ... I'm sure their housing, living conditions and economy are similar to when I was there ... their standard of living has never been on par with ours ....

They have improved tremendously since then. Dude their GDP per Capita is the highest in the world. The Wall fell in 90 so of course it would look like that.

GDP has very little to do with the standard of living for the average citizen there ... Japan, Germany, Italy, etc. are prime examples of this .... compare the avg square footage of a family home in America to these countries .... it's eye opening the difference .... around half the size of the typical dwelling size for a comparable family in America ... gas, food, utilities, etc. much higher than America and quality and selection is inferior in most cases as well .... I take it you have done little traveling outside the CONUS ....

GDP doesn't give you a true picture of living conditions .... take a trip abroad and it will open your eyes ....

Japan's GDP per Capita is only 38k so the numbers are not lying. As for the rest the same can be said about the US. Take a trip to the inner cities you're always slamming in the US and open ur eyes

Again, GDP doesn't give you a valid comparison of standard of living between America and other cointries .... your inner city comment is irrelevant  ....

No it's not irrelevant. Don't bring up other countries living conditions if you refuse to acknowledge your own countries

Your original comment was about Germany vs America .... and we were talking about overall comparison .... there are :poop: holes in all countries .... but overall our standard of living is better .... no question about it ...
