regaleagle
Rise and shine today in Austin, Texas for the Sinton Pirates and the Argyle Eagles.....it's gameday and a chance to become a State Champion in 4A baseball.
regaleagle
The ballclubs will take to the field at Disch-Falk Field this afternoon at 6:30 pm for the Class 4A State Championship. Sinton has been rolling over their opponents all season long regardless of classification......so they are the prohibitive favorites to win it all. regaleagle
Argyle started the season with some young guys in starting roles. They dropped a couple of games in early season, but have progressed and matured into a very tight-knit group with some solid pitching and good defense thruout the season. They have been able to consistently get key hits with runners in scoring position all season long while relying upon their pitching staff and defense to win so many games. regaleagle
As exemplified and stated yesterday on this site by another poster.......Sinton is a beast and a different animal this season than most of the other competition they have faced thus far. Luckily for Argyle.......they have developed their baseball program and a pedigree of toughness thru the years to contend in big games with opponents that also have a great baseball program and pedigree......like the Sinton Pirates. regaleagle
Not sure who will be the visiting team today, but Argyle will need to keep the Sinton offensive juggernaut at bay early to stay in this game to the end. The pitching duo today will be RHP Trevor Duck(6-0/180 lb Sr.) for Argyle vs RHP Wyatt Wiatrek(6-2/190 lb Sr) for Sinton. Wiatrek is an LSU commit and has a heavy fastball combined with a good downward curve ball. Trevor Duck is a good fastball pitcher that throws strikes. He will be attending Howard College next season on a baseball scholarship.
regaleagle
This season is the 5th time for Argyle to come to Austin for a Final Four appearance. They have advanced to the State Championship game in every appearance, winning 3 of 4 and losing in extra innings to College Station in their only loss. I know Sinton has a great baseball history that dates back many years compared to Argyle......but all that matters today is playing the best quality game you can against your opponent. Both teams are consistently good in the field, although errors do happen in big games sometimes. Argyle has played many errorless games this season and turned double plays remarkably well. The infield for Argyle is stout. I don't know about Sinton, but just judging from their record and overall personnel.....I would have to guess they are also very stout defensively at all positions. regaleagle
Argyle does have plenty of quality arms in their arsenal to get them thru today's game if needed. The pitching staff for Argyle is very deep for high school standards. Cannot comment on the pitching staff depth of Sinton because I just really don't know. regaleagle
Both ballclubs have experienced coaching staffs to help guide their teams to success with quality decision-making when the situation arises.
regaleagle
IMHO......Argyle will need to put the bat on the ball today and get some clean hits to drop in the open spaces to win this game. The Eagles will need to come out swinging and not allow the umpire to call strikes on the corners without swinging. It's better to take a whack at the ball than to go down looking. regaleagle
Evan Brandt pitched a very methodical game for Argyle yesterday......trying to control the tempo and pace while on the mound. By contrast, Trevor Duck on the mound for Argyle likes to work at a faster pace to develop his tempo to throw more strikes on less pitches. Typically this helps his defense to stay on their toes with a quicker game pace.
regaleagle
Airtime on NFHS for this game says 6:30.......we do not have the video up yet of the field. T-minus 22 min. and counting.
regaleagle
Does anyone know who will be home team today? I'm sure they have already flipped for that......probably after last night's Sinton game.
regaleagle
Sinton's only loss this season came early in tournament play against Tuloso Midway on March 5th by a score of 15-7. Sinton later faced Tuloso Midway in the regional semifinals and won that one-gamer by a score of 11-0.
regaleagle
The only common opponent both teams faced this season was China Spring. Argyle defeated CS in tournament play on March 12th by a score of 6-0, then in the State Semifinal yesterday 2-1. Sinton defeated CS in a non-district game on April 23rd by a score of 7-3. Both teams won against CS in home games.....if that means anything. Gotta give CS some credit for playing a good schedule and traveling to play it. regaleagle
Those called strikes were not on the outside corner....esp. that last one. It's hitting the outside corner of the inside stripe of the batter's box....not even close.

regaleagle
This guy behind the plate is not consistent in his calls......and he's crazy about calling strikes waaay out of the strike zone on the corners......2 feet out.
regaleagle
I cannot stress enough how poor those calls are by the plate ump. in this.....a 4A State Championship game. IF they were close, that's OK. But you cannot continually penalize a batter for not swinging at obviously waay out of the zone pitches. I do not like umps taking over a SC game with poor calling behind the plate. The hitters are conditioned with an eye of what's good and what is not.
