First big news of the off season sees Whitehouse announcing an AD, which creates an opening now at Longview for the boys basketball head coach position.

Update on the hires made by Marshall AD Jack Alvarez:

Joe Hicks to replace Eric Woods as girls head basketball coach. Hicks was recently at Alief Elsik.

Christina Miller came over from Garrison to replace Kayla Allen as head volleyball coach

Alan Martinez, a 2016 graduate of Marshall High School who was a soccer player and kicker for the football team, will have his first head coaching job as he takes over for Janna Duck as the girls head soccer coach.

Kaitlynn Richards will be an assistant volleyball and assist softball coach. Her last stop was in Lamesa.

FOOTBALL

Hunter Ashley comes from Cuero where he worked with Alvarez in the past to become the Mavericks’ new defensive coordinator.

Jake Willingham also comes from Cuero to be Marshall’s offensive coordinator,

Mason Hite joins the squad from Cuero to be the new strength coordinator and to coach the offensive line.

Isaac Thomas’ last stop was at Plano, and prior to that, he coached at Cuero. He will coach the defensive line and powerlifting.

Jeremey Hammock will be an assistant football coach and assist. coach track. He coached at Nacogdoches High School and at SFA.

Beaux Gipson will be an assistant football and assist baseball coach. His last stop was at Gonzalez.

Jason Hammett will replace the retired Jodi Satterwhite as assistant athletic director and will coach the tight ends. His last stop was Copperas Cove and he worked with Alvarez in Ennis.

Chad Booher has been promoted from assistant trainer to head trainer and Stephanie Loveland, coming in from Roosevelt High School in Portland, Oregon will be the assistant trainer.

Head coaching positions that Alvarez is looking to hire are baseball and boys soccer.

Lady Lobos will be in Duncanville today for 3 matches (Arlington Bowie, Dallas WT White and Commerce).

Hallsville will play in the Garland ISD Volleyball Tournament today against Richardson Pearce, Frisco Independence and North Garland.

Over in Tyler...
Marshall went 0-3, falling to Lindale, Bullard and Sanger.
Mount Pleasant went 0-3, falling to Pleasant Grove, Mabank and Carthage.
Pine Tree went 2-1, defeating New Boston and Ore City while falling to Beckville.
Texas High went 2-1, defeating Troup and Gladewater while falling to Van.
Tyler went 2-1 yesterday, defeating Mineola and Jacksonville while falling to Gilmer.

Today...
Marshall takes on Waskom, New Boston and Mount Pleasant
Mount Pleasant takes on Waskom, New Boston and Marshall.
Pine Tree takes on Pleasant Grove, Sanger and Willis.

Yesterday, Whitehouse competed in the Mansfield ISD Volleyball Tournament. The Ladycats went 0-3 on the day falling to Euless Trinity, Waxahachie and Denton Braswell.
Today, Whitehouse will take on Dallas Wilmer Hutchins, Fort Worth Paschal and Midlothian Heritage.

Yesterday Lufkin also competed in the Mansfield ISD tournament. Lufkin defeated Wilmer Hutchins before falling to Birdville and Justin Northwest. The Lady Pack will take on Amarillo Tascosa, Frisco Heritage and Carrollton Creekview today.

Yesterday began The inaugural season for UIL Water Polo. Two teams in East Texas have teams, Nac and Texas High. They are playing in District 5-6a.

 

District 5-6a

Nac

Texas High

Rockwall

Rockwall Heath

Forney 

North Forney

 

Nac Traveled to Texas High yesterday, Nac Boys JV won 11-2, Nacs Girls Varsity won 20-1 and Texas High Varsity won 8-6. 

 

The season runs to mid October and the district tournament will be played in Rockwall.

Lady Lobos go 3-0 on first day of the Duncanville Tournament of Champions, dominating Arlington Bowie, Dallas WT White and Commerce. Longview now 4-0 on year. They'll play North Crowley in the Gold Bracket tomorrow morning.

Will post the rest of the results from around the district when they're posted.

Looks like Whitehouse is 0-2 so far on the day with one to go.

Finals from yesterday:

Longview went 3-0 to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Whitehouse went 1-2 with a win over Dallas Wilmer Hutchins and losses to Midlothian Heritage and Fort Worth Paschal. They play Midland High in bracket play today.

Lufkin went 2-1 in the Midlothian ISD Tournament with wins over Frisco Heritage and Carrollton Creekview while losing to Amarillo Tascosa. They play the winner of Midlothian Heritage and Euless Trinity today.

Haven't been able to find solid information on Hallsville's day at the Garland ISD Invitational, other than they lost to Richardson Pearce.

Over in Tyler...
Marshall went 3-0 with wins over New Boston, Waskom and Mount Pleasant.
Mount Pleasant went 2-1 with a loss to Marshall and wins over New Boston/Waskom.
Pine Tree went 0-3 with losses to Sanger, Willis and Pleasant Grove.
Texas High went 1-2 with losses to Kilgore/Bryan Rudder and a win over Gilmer.
Tyler went 1-2 with losses to Tyler Legacy/Van and a win over Redwater.

No one from the district advanced to the Championship bracket.
In the Gold Bracket - Tyler High plays Pine Tree while Texas High plays Lindale.
In the Silver Bracket - Marshall plays Rusk while Mount Pleasant plays Troup

Finals from yesterday..

Longview defeated North Crowley 2-1 yesterday before dropping an extremely close contest with host Duncanville 2-1 in the Quarterfinals. Was a fantastic match. I know Duncanville isn't a world beater in volleyball but competing with them yesterday, just really gave me a lot of hope for the rest of the year.

Whitehouse played 2 yesterday in the Mansfield ISD Tournament and won both, against Midland High 2-0 and Carrollton Creekview 20.

Lufkin in the same tournament played 2 and lost to 2, to Euless Trinity 2-1 and Mansfield Lake Ridge 2-1.

Hallsville went 3-1 on the day in Garland, with wins over South Garland (2-0), Carrollton Newman Smith (2-0) and Garland (2-0) before falling to Emerson (2-1). On Friday, Hallsville went 1-2 defeating North Garland and falling to Richardson Pearce and Frisco Independence.

Over in Tyler....
Marshall defeated Rusk before falling to Mabank in the Semi-Finals. They defeated Troup in the third place of the Silver Bracket.
Mount Pleasant fell to Troup in the quarterfinals of the Silver Bracket. In the consolation bracket, they defeated West Rusk before falling to Rusk.
Pine Tree fell to Tyler in the quarterfinals of the Gold Bracket. In the consolation bracket, Pine Tree defeated Redwater then Gilmer.
Texas High defeated Lindale before falling to Willis in the Semi-Finals. They defeated Tyler in the 3rd place of the Gold Bracket.
Tyler defeated Pine Tree before falling to Carthage in the Semi-Finals. Texas High defeated Tyler in the 3rd place of the Gold Bracket.

Updates from yesterday.

Longview went 1-1 in a dual match as hosts against Pleasant Grove and Carthage. Lady Lobos swept Pleasant Grove while Carthage swept Longview. Lady Lobos now sit at 6-2 on the year.

Pine Tree swept Van to improve to 6-5 on the season.

Tyler went 0-2 on the night, falling 3-1 to Bullard and getting swept 3-0 by Nacogdoches Central Heights.

Whitehouse swept Corsicana 3-0 and Lindale.

Marshall swept Jefferson.

Hallsville fell 3-2 to Lufkin yesterday at home, also played Henderson but unsure of the score (would assume they won).

Mount Pleasant played Atlanta yesterday, but unable to find a score.

Texas High played Paris North Lamar yesterday, unable to find a score.

Updates from last week…

Longview went 4-2 in Terrell Invitational, winning their group 3-0 before falling in the first round of the Gold Bracket and advancing to the semi finals of the consolation. Lady Lobos defeated Corsicana, Rowlett and Irving MacArthur day one before falling to Royse City, defeating Princeton and falling to Dallas Woodrow Wilson.

Pine Tree went 5-2 in the Terrell Invitational. No idea who they played but they went 1-2 on their first day before winning 3 straight in the Bronze bracket.

Last week, Marshall defeated Jefferson 3-0 (as updated by Mavchamp) and as well defeated Gilmer 3-0. Lady Mavs later fell to Spring Hill 3-1.

Hallsville, after a split against Henderson and Lufkin last week, played Gilmer and walked away with a 3-1 victory.

Whitehouse has not played since last Tuesday. They host White Oak this Tuesday.

Tyler defeated Ore City 3-0.

Mount Pleasant, last week, fell to Atlanta 3-1. Lady Tigers competed in the Van tournament over the weekend, going 2-2. Mount Pleasant lost to Bullard before defeating Mineola. Then in bracket play, knocked off Cumby, before losing to Henderson.

The Texarkana newspaper finally did a story on T High volleyball, as the lady Tigers defeated Greenville 3-1 on Friday.
