Just as we all expected, the Lobos are the last standing 😂

FINAL: Longview 48, Crandall 40

Lobos head to round 3 for the first time since 1992.

The '96 team...they didn't go atleast 3rds?? That was a pretty good team. Toby Thompson Keithan Stewart Ryan Carroll. Damn good players!

The good thing about MP's bond proposal 2 years ago was that there really wasnt any opposition. The high school got fully renovated. In 2002 however to replace all elementary schools was a lot harder. It took a couple years to get that one passed. They had started trying to get that bond passed in 2000. Hope Marshall can get theirs passed.

Sounds like the same with MISD.

The BIG bond back in 2016 built four new elementary schools and a new junior high.

Even as fierce as the opposition was in the first try, it only failed 51% to 49%.  The second try was almost 70% yes.

No opposition has really risen up to renovate the HS....yet.  I'm sure it's coming.  But with no tax increase..... and no "frills" in this bond..... I'm not sure what leg they have to stand on.

Not to mention....the 20 year bond that passed in 2016 is on pace to be paid off in 15 years because the district is doing well financially.  So it shows they are being good stewards.

BTW......MPHS looks great now.  I saw it a few weeks ago.  MHS will look fantastic too with the major overhaul.  Can't wait to see it finished.

Also can't wait to see what awaits Maverick Stadium.....I've heard some great ideas.

Longview falls to Lancaster, 52-42. Great fight and easily could've given up when they got down 14 and were in foul trouble across the board.

Lots to be excited about in Lobo basketball, both girls and boys, going into 2023-24.

Tyler beat Longview last Tuesday so they have the tie breaker thus far.

Longview beat Tyler in the first game of district, they've split their meetings thus far. No idea what happens if both teams end up on same points though.

Negative. New coach went a completely different route with everyone on the football team than in the past. Didn't care how talented your were. You were going to have to come in and earn your minutes over the guys that had been in basketball the entire time if you wanted to play.

Hale wasn't going to try and do that.

After Tuesday's games...

15-5A MEN'S SOCCER STANDINGS
Whitehouse (8-1-1) 25 points
Tyler (8-2-0) 24 points
Longview (8-2-0) 24 points
Mount Pleasant (7-3-0) 20 points
Pine Tree (4-6-0) 12 points
Texas High (4-6-0) 12 points
Hallsville (1-9-0) 3 points
Marshall (0-10-0) 0 points

Tuesday Results
Longview defeated Hallsville, 6-0.
Mount Pleasant tied Whitehouse 1-1, but Tigers won penalty kicks.
Texas High defeated Marshall, 3-1.
Tyler defeated Pine Tree, 7-3.

Mount Pleasant got the win Longview and Tyler were desperately hoping for as the Tigers knocked off the Cats in penalty kicks, 4-2. The PK loss for Whitehouse gives them a single point, which is a enough to keep them ahead of Longview and Tyler, who both rolled to victories on Tuesday. With four games left, Hallsville and Marshall are eliminated. Texas High and Pine Tree both have outside chances, but can only afford to drop maybe one more game...if that. The battle at the top should be very interesting in the final tow weeks. Longview has Marshall, Pine Tree and two away trips to both Whitehouse and Mount Pleasant. Mount Pleasant has Pine Tree and Texas High before taking on Tyler in Tyler and then Longview. Tyler has Hallsville, Marshall followed by Mount Pleasant and Texas High.  And Whitehouse has almost the same in taking on Texas High, Hallsville then Longview and Marshall to finish. Lots of soccer left, with a ton to be decided amongst the top four. Been a while since there's been four very solid teams in this district.

--------------------------------------------------------------

15-5A LADIES SOCCER STANDINGS
Pine Tree (9-1-0) 27 points
Hallsville (8-2-0) 24 points
Longview (7-2-1) 23 points
Mount Pleasant (6-3-1) 19 points
Tyler (4-6-0) 12 points
Whitehouse (3-7-0) 9 points
Texas High (2-8-0) 6 points
Marshall (0-10-0) 0 points

Tuesday Results
Longview defeated Hallsville, 1-0.
Mount Pleasant defeated Whitehouse, 1-0.
Pine Tree defeated Tyler, 3-2 in OT.
Texas High defeated Marshall 7-0

Longview grabbed a massive upset win over Hallsville, 1-0, to pull them back into contention for a district crown with four games remaining. Pine Tree escaped a pretty big upset themselves, edging out the Lady Lions 3-2 in overtime. Mount Pleasant kept pace with the Lady Lobos in a 1-0 win over Whitehouse. Pine Tree has clinched a playoff berth. Hallsville and Longview remain a win away from doing so. Longview has Marshall, Pine Tree, Whitehouse and Mount Pleasant remaining. Pine Tree has Mount Pleasant, Longview, Texas High then Hallsville remaining, while Hallsville has Tyler, Whitehouse, Marshall and Pine Tree remaining. Tyler really has to win out to have any hope of a playoff berth, and lucky for them they do face off against Marshall/Texas High but they'll have to either hope Mount Pleasant loses out or pull the upset over Hallsville then knock off the Lady Tigers on 03/10.

Looking over at 16-5A:

16-5A MEN'S SOCCER STANDINGS
Nacogdoches (6-1-0) 18 points
Lufkin (5-1-1) 16 points
Humble Kingwood Park (4-2-1) 13 points
Dayton (2-5-0) 6 points
Huntsville (1-4-2) 5 points
New Caney Porter (1-6-0) 3 points

From what I can tell, this district is not doing any type of PK situations after overtime is decided. If so and I just can't find any confirmation, then the points would be slightly off as we've had two ties in this district. But, it definitely feels like a three dog race even though Huntsville has really picked it up with a win and two ties w/Lufkin/Kingwood Park in recent games. With three games remaining, still a ton to be decided.

16-5A LADIES SOCCER STANDINGS
Humble Kingwood Park (7-0-0) 21 points
Lufkin (4-2-1) 13 points
Nacogdoches (4-2-1) 13 points
New Caney Porter (3-3-1) 10 points
Huntsville (1-6-0) 3 points
Dayton (0-6-1) 1 point

With three games remaining, Kingwood Park is a single point away from clinching top spot in the district. Dayton is eliminated. Huntsville has an extreme outside chance. Lufkin and Nacogdoches meet in the final round of district play to end the season so that could easily decide 2nd and 3rd. But Porter still has Nac to play again, so could definitely see the Lady Spartans speak up next week.

No, mainly for the same reason Haynes King didn't play his SR year.

He's at Alabama.

@LoboFan07 How did the the basketball teams finish? I don’t really keep up with the State tournament. I remember mount pleasant being undefeated. Just curious.

Mount Pleasant finished 34-1, lost to Forney in the Area round.

Lufkin was also upset in the second round by Red Oak, a 20 point loss on top of that, finishing 34-4.

Hallsville lost in bi-district to Lufkin, the only 15-5A team to not get to at least the 2nd round.

Tyler was blown out by Lancaster in Area, finishing 21-11.

Longview was only team to get to the Regional Quarters this year. Lobos fell to Lancaster by 10, to finish 26-8. Furthest the Lobos have been since the 90s.

On the girls side, it was rough mostly.

Longview got to the Area round for the first time since 2015. McKinney North then blew the doors off of us.

Mount Pleasant finished 36-1 on the year, losing to Frisco Liberty by 11 in the Regional Semis. Liberty ended up winning state.

Tyler fell to Red Oak in the Area round.

Marshall was blown out by Huntsville in Bi-District.

Lufkin and Nacogdoches both lost in bi-district.

Dang...   as dominant as MP looked this season, they still were no match for the metro/suburban schools.

Friday's Games

--------------------------------------------------------------

15-5A MEN'S SOCCER STANDINGS
Whitehouse (10-1-1) 31 points
Tyler (10-2-0) 30 points
Longview (10-2-0) 30 points
Mount Pleasant (9-3-0) 26 points

Tues 3/7 Results
Whitehouse beat Hallsville 7-0
Longview beat Pine Tree 5-1
Tyler beat Marshall 8-0
Mount Pleasant beat Texas High 3-0

Only two games remain in district play....but much needs to be decided.  WH, Tyler, Longview, and MP have all clinched the playoffs.  WH is clinging to a one point lead for the district lead with Tyler and Longview lurking just behind them.  MP has clinched the #4 slot.

Whitehouse:  Longview, Marshall
Tyler: Mount Pleasant, Texas High
Longview: Whitehouse, Mount Pleasant

HUGE game Friday with Longview and Whitehouse facing off for the district championship.  A WH win will all but clinch the title for the WIldcats with winless Marshall in the finale.  A Longview win would position the Lobos for the district title with another showdown with MP for next week.  Tyler will be scoreboard watching with WH/Longview as they look to knock off MP...they have TxH on Tuesday.

--------------------------------------------------------------

15-5A LADIES SOCCER STANDINGS
Hallsville (10-2-0) 30 points
Longview (9-2-1) 29 points
Pine Tree (9-3-0) 27 points
Mount Pleasant (7-4-1) 22 points
Tyler (5-7-0) 15 points
Texas High (4-8-0) 12 points
Whitehouse (3-9-0) 9 points
Marshall (0-12-0) 0 points

Tues 3/7 Results
Longview beat Pine Tree 1-0 (OT)
Tyler beat Marshall 11-0
Hallsville beat Whitehouse 5-0
Texas High beat Mount Pleasant 6-1

Pine Tree's loss to Longview dropped the Lady Pirates from the top spot in the district standings all the way down to third place, two points behind the Lady Lobos.  That moved Hallsville all alone in first place.   The most puzzling match on the night saw Texas High completely dominate Mount Pleasant.  Texas High has already been eliminated from the post-season race, but they blasted an MP team that has already clinched the 4 slot.  Bizarre.

Hallsville: Marshall, Pine Tree
Longview: Whitehouse, Mount Pleasant
Pine Tree: Texas High, Hallsville

On paper....it appears Hallsville, Longview, and PT will all be favored this Friday with all three facing non-playoff teams.  This will set up Tuesday to be a huge night as Hallsville faces arch rival Hallsville for a possible outright district championship on the line.  Longview and MP will have a grudge-match and Longview could overtake the district title with a win over the Tigers and a Hallsville loss.  Pine Tree could still win the district title with a win over Hallsville and a Longview loss to MP.   Get your popcorn ready

Yup. Which was what i was afraid of after them dominating everyone except for a little scare from Hallsville.
