Texas High pulled off the upset of the district season with their shocking win over Longview.

I mean lol Longview was without their best player. Not that shocking with how inconsistent we tend to be.

True....everyone in the district has been inconsistent except MP IMHO.....

BUT..... a team that was tied for second place losing to a team that was tied for last place seems like an upset.  Had Longview won..... the Longview/Tyler game would have been HUGE for seeding.  Now it really doesn't mean much.

Outside of MP and Lufkin..... boys basketball has been pretty ugly in ETX.

This is now my third year to say this and I hate to say it but it's true - East Texas basketball is not very good.

yep. but MP and SS over the past 5 yrs or so have proved that you can build a very good big school basketball program in East Texas.

I thought JT was improving this yr especially by Dec/Jan after the football players settled in. Kinda takes a while since half the roster is football players. Then the fight set them back.  Not sure if they can make a deep run anyway.

Has both girls and boys teams ever finished undefeated? I bet this is rare but awesome.  Mount pleasant doing it big.

Its definitely a first for MP. I remember growing up MP was a laughing stock in basketball but a force in football. It has completely flipped the script since the 90s.

Friday District Finales

Nac @ Kingwood park

Huntville @ Lufkin

Dayton @ Porter

District seeding gets sorted out tonight.

Nac. and KP play at 730pm in Kingwood to decide #2/3 seed. Porter and Huntsville are tied for 4th. Porter gets winless in district Dayton and Huntsville travels to Lufkin. Huntsville dropped their last meeting with Lufkin by 22pt. Porter and Dayton played a 41-40 OT game a few weeks ago so it isn't out of the question that Dayton could win and possibly force a 3rd meeting between Porter and Huntsville early next week. Huntsville and Porter split the two meetings between them. A lot on the line tonight for everyone but Lufkin. Lufkin has clinched the district title and the #1 seed in the district.

Lufkin 84 Huntsville 50

Nacogdoches 53 @ Kingwood Park 51 OT   NAC is now a solid 2nd seed and KWP 3rd seed. Don't sell Kingwood Park short at 15-18. They took their lumps early playing a bunch of 6A teams in non district, those guys are very well coached and fundamentally sound. Nacogdoches has overcome their early season injuries and are playing the best I've seen them all year. A very athletic bunch.

New Caney Porter 50 Dayton 36  New Caney Porter now has the edge over Huntsville for the 4th seed.

Lufkin played without two starters tonight, and other starters played fewer minutes, also played a JV center who had just moved up about 1/2 of the game.

Longview defeats Tyler, 50-34. Win clinches a playoff berth.

Lobos sitting at 8-5 with Hallsville at home remaining.
Lions sitting at 9-4 with Mount Pleasant on road remaining.

Texas High defeated Hallsville tonight, while Pine Tree upset Whitehouse.

Not sure if Longview and Tyler would play a third, deciding playoff tie breaker if things fall at 9-5 a'piece or if the Lobos would get the second spot after sweeping the season series? But Lobos/Lions will be 2nd or 3rd.
