Vin Scully was wise. RIP

Vin is right about actual socialism...but (for example) universal healthcare does not make a nation "socialist" any more than driving on public roads or getting water from a public water system does.

Btw...I did not know that it was Vin on the call when Hank Aaron hit homerun 715. What a legend.

Here's the thing about failed socialism not to be confused with communism. The U.S. puts sanctions on countries to cause the issue and then say "see, we told you socialism doesn't work".

Now you are just being redundant.

Sounds like you are saying that socialism needs the US to prop up its economy.  Sounds like an awful system, which it is.  Socialism is just the next step before communism.  Not counting Bernie Sanders, who was the last socialist to come grow from meager beginnings and turn into a multi-millionaire?

That is not even close to what I'm saying. I'm saying U.S. interference caused a lot of their issues. Well socialist Canada added 30k new millionaires in 2019. Norway seems to do well in that regard also.

I understand that. In the US the the poor have a chance to get rich too.  That doesn't happen often in socialist countries.

When you say "socialist countries" are you talking about Cuba? Or Germany? I'm not sure how you define "socialist".

Yep, and our have nots are better off than most of our grandparents, parents, and many of us.  They also have a chance to move to the top.  This socialist/communist/marxist scamdemic was one of the largest transitions of wealth from poor to rich.  But lets not talk about that.

I'm not sure that upward economic mobility is any better these days in the U S than it is in (for example) western Europe.

They think all socialist countries are poor and all capitalist countries are flourishing. Failing to realize that there are good and bad examples of each. The indoctrination in our education system is appalling. A literal examples of socialist countries who are thriving more so than us

I agree and there socialist (mixed economy) countries that have it too.

Hell, we have a mixed economy and getting more socialist by the day.  That is the problem, those in power want more power.  Give them an incentive and an ecopolitical tool (socialism) and they will keep taking until we are screwed.  Have you ever seen anything that the government is good at, efficient at....more so than the free market?  And you want to give them more power and control over the citizens?

Well..  you honestly would rather put things in the hands of corporations who are even worse? A lot of countries have had a mixed economy for YEARS and it hasn't changed, but keep being afraid of the Boogeyman. As a matter of fact, how many more-developed countries with a mixed economy do you know of that switched all the way to communism who had some type of democratic government? I'll wait... If u can name multiple countries in the last 100 years we can talk. If not, you may want to make a different argument.

It is a complicated issue and I don't pretend to have all the answers.  But I would rather thousands of corporations have more power than a few dirty politicians.  Once a congress person is elected, their re-election chances are as high as 98%. It is almost a lifetime appointment unless they do something terribly wrong.  These politicians have little incentive to do what is right for their constituents and usually just end up making themselves and their buddies richer and richer...forever.

CEO's are held accountable to their shareholders/citizens.  If they don't make the company profitable, cause harm to a bunch of employees, or just make the company look bad in general......the CEO is replaced most hastily.  There is also competition among corporations.  So if one company is run poorly or doesn't keep up with technology they either go out of business or are taken over by a better run corporation.  In politics that does not happen.  Politicians just get more corrupt and more beholden the longer they are in office.

So given the choice, I'd rather corporations (citizens) have more power than the politicians every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

The US is the most opportunist nation.  You libs are bragging about 582,000 jobs biden created.  The future millionaires of America have to start out somewhere.

sad thing is most kids coming out of college think they should make $100k on day1 of new job.
