For the first time since 2019,  the Tenaha Tigers will meet up with the Joaquin Rams in tackle football. The Tigers will make the 12 mile journey to Ram Stadium for a Saturday night game. This is JHS Homecoming 2022, and being a HOCO opponent is not something the Tigers are accustomed to. The Tigers will look to run their record to 3-0 vs District 11AA D1, as they have won close games over West Sabine (0-2) and San Augustine (0-2). The Rams will be trying to get back in the win column after dropping a 42-41 heartbreaker at Beckville in week 2. Although beating Joaquin is something Tigers Head Coach Terry Ward did with regularity in his first stint at Tenaha (2009-2014, he went 5-1 vs the Rams), he has some work to do to get back there, as the Tigers haven’t beaten the Rams since 2017. Rams Head Coach Wade Lawson is currently 3-2 vs the Tigers. Will the Rams learn their lesson about taking their foot off the gas? Will the Tigers prove they could still compete in AS D1? Will Hayseed share his chicken strips? Will Greezy make an appearance? And most importantly, will Doomer have a jug of corn squeezins ready in time for Shonda’s class reunion?

Hayseed is now a vegetarian (2 years) but I will share my fries and popcorn!

Just to start a little conversation, since there doesn’t seem to be any interest in Tenaha whatsoever, I’ll share a story from about 20 years ago. A local radio station was airing a tape-delayed broadcast of Joaquin games on Saturday morning, featuring a team made up of a play-by-play guy who sounded very professional and knowledgeable about the game (he is, I’ve known him since we were 6) and a “color” guy who sounded like he just walked out of the local Honky-tonk. In their broadcast of the 2000 Joaquin/ Tenaha game, the color guy made a joke, asking how you could tell if a couple was from Tenaha or not. The play-by-play guy said he didn’t know, so the color guy said “they’ll have tobacco juice stains down both sides of their pickup truck.” Some Tenaha folks got kinda bent out of shape over it, and the next year, they weren’t allowed to cover the Joaquin/ Tenaha game.
