Cooper Update 11.2.22

We finally got results from Cooper's pathology results and as suspected, they showed early stages of inflammatory bowel disease. They are treating this with medication. We are so thankful to finally have a treatable diagnoses. Today Cooper will have a chest X-Ray. As long as everything is clear, they will remove the trach today or tomorrow! YAY! Praying for clear chest X-Ray! Cooper is still struggling with his sleep patterns. He is not getting enough sleep at night, so he is sleepy during the day. This is frustrating, because we want him to be able to give maximum efforts during therapy. The doctors are adjusting his medication and working on his sleep patterns.

Specific Prayer Requests:

Clear X-Ray so trach can be removed! 💥
Pray for doctors as they adjust Cooper's medication and that they can find the right regimen to help him sleep at night.
Maximum efforts & results for Cooper during all therapy sessions. 💪
Accurate nutrition formula to help Cooper gain weight and muscle.
Wisdom for Coopers medical team🏣
Strength, endurance, faith, peace and rest for Cooper, Terry and Susanne.🙌

Thank you is not enough to relay how we feel towards you all for your continued prayers. We are eternally grateful.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,
Hebrews 12:1💙2️⃣2️⃣

Thank you for the up dates. I haven't said anything , but have been following everything since the start. Being a coach it's hard to hear about kids being hurt while competing, but we know every day we could face these same challenges. It's been great to hear all the good news over the weeks of Cooper's injury. And last , but not least I really needed this verse  today. Thank you

Cooper Update: 11.10.22

Friends, Cooper has had a bit of a set back. Yesterday, a CT revealed that Cooper has a cerebral spinal fluid accumulation on left side of his brain. First, Cooper is not in immediate danger. However, we do need to figure out what is causing this and treat it. Cooper was transferred to Childen's last night at 10pm. He has been admitted to Children's but they are still in the ER due to a bed shortage. Cooper has rested well throughout night, but as you can imagine being in the ER...Susanne and Terry have had no sleep. Cooper has had a MRI, but there are no results as of yet.

Please pray!

Pray for MRI results.

Pray that the neurosurgeon can diagnose and treat what is causing this so that Cooper can get back to TIRR and rehab.

Pray that they place the Reid's in a room soon so they can all get some much needed rest. 🙏🏻

Pray Peace over Cooper, Terry and Susanne.

Lord hear our cries...

Lord, your Word speaks promises of healing and restoration and I thank you for the miracles you still perform today. Today I claim those promises over my Cooper and his parents. I believe in the healing power of faith and prayer and I ask you to continue your mighty work in the life of Cooper . Please reach down and surround my Cooper, Terry and Susanne with supernatural peace and strength and give her the faith to believe that all things are possible for you. Protect them from Satan's lies and discouragement and let your miraculous healing begin. Amen

Exodus 14:14 The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

Long overdue post!!!!

Terry, Whitney, Jordan, Jansen and I would like to express our profound gratitude to all of our family, friends, community members and everyone who participated in last night's Fish Fry and Auction. The amount of money raised was mind blowing to say the least. We will always be truly grateful for everyone entrusting us with this amount of money. We do not know what the future holds for Cooper, but we do know it will include medical bills, supplies, equipment and daily care over the next year or so. These funds will allow us to take care of Cooper and focus on his needs as we have been doing everyday since September 9th. Again, thank you to all of the donors, buyers, workers, bakers, cooks, servers, cleaning crew, fish/fries/hushpuppy fryers, auctioneers, and anyone else who played a role in last night’s event. Thank you Micheal Murphy, Steele’s Feed and Seed, The Stovall’s for the fish donation, Troup FBC for hosting the event, Mixon FBC and The Gospel Barn for supplying food and desserts. We are so proud to live in a community who takes care of their people. God Is Good!!!

We have been stunned by the overwhelming outpouring of love and support everyone has shown us over the past two months. We would like to say thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers during this time. The phone calls, text messages, FB messages, food, cards, and gift cards have been nonstop, and we appreciated each one.  The vigils were amazing, and I know God hears each and everyone one of your prayers. We know Cooper being here with us is already a miracle.  As we continue trekking through the hills and valleys of this journey, we know God is writing Cooper's story. We believe through His mighty power He is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine. We stand firm on God's foundation and will withstand whatever comes our way. We know God loves Cooper and He is restoring him back to us little by little each day.

Many of you have expressed your gratitude for Mandi Braswell and her faithful updates on this page. Her servant heart has been our family's biggest blessing during this time. We have no words big enough to describe what she has meant to us. I tear up now thinking about the time and effort she has spent taking care of us. She has been our comforter, encourager, motivator, and our rock. The witness she has been for her own kids has not gone unnoticed either. I know this because they have donated their own money, bought auction items, made cards, and drawn pictures for Cooper letting him know they are praying for him. No doubt there is an extra crown for her in Heaven.

I am afraid to make this list because of the fear of leaving someone off, but I am going to do my best. Thank you for all of the fundraising on our behalf. We will forever be eternally grateful.

I leave you with this; I would not wish this on ANYBODY.....it has been a horrible nightmare, but I will say it has brought our already close-knit family even closer together. His brother and sisters have loved on him and have been his biggest fans and advocates during his recovery process. Our family has been instrumental in helping us care for Cooper. Home cooked meals, shopping for our needs, giving us nights away from the rehab center, ect…  We know this tragedy has not only affected our lives but the lives of our extended family, Cooper’s friends and everyone else. Everyone asked, “What can we do to help?” The answer is simple, please keep praying for Cooper’s full recovery and wearing your blue for 22 t-shirts. I know this brings awareness to Cooper’s injury and his recovery process allowing more people to pray for him.  Cooper is fighting to get his life back everyday. He is having to relearn how to swallow, hold his head up, and how to use every muscle in his body again.

We have witnessed and you have witnessed the kindness and love people still have in our country and community. Our kids and youth have been watching, listening and learning this from all of you. I pray this continues and more and more people will come to know Jesus because of it. I know this has to be the purpose of this tragedy. I pray when Cooper looks back at all of this he will see what God was doing, and is doing, through his life.

To God be the glory forever and ever. Amen
May God bless you all!!!

Urgent Prayer Requests!!!!
Susanne asked me to share with you all that a scan has shown that Cooper has suffered a stroke. They have taken him to Children’s Memorial Herman. We ask that you all start praying now.
1.Pray for the medical staff to treat Cooper swiftly and accurately.
2.Pray for minimal deficits from this.
3.Pray for the medical staff to find what is causing this (if they can), and do everything they can to prevent this from continuing.
*Honestly, I’m not exactly sure what to ask you to pray for yet, other than Lord, hear us! Jesus… put your hands on Cooper💙 there is power in HIS name🙏🏻
I will update as I know more.

Matthew 21:22 And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi friends.. I wanted to give a quick update for Cooper this week. Cooper has been experiencing headaches and stomach pain. He has been able to communicate this to his doctors using signs and answering yes or no questions. His doctors are working diligently to figure out the cause of this and a treatment plan. He has been working hard in speech therapy. He even was able to have a conversation with one of his doctors. It is amazing how they are able to find ways for Cooper to communicate his needs and wants.  Cooper's therapist are working on gaining flexion and mobility in his ankles so that he can eventually support his weight. Cooper is sleeping much better and we are so grateful for this.   With Cooper spending a week in the hospital, he is having to work hard to makeup for time lost in rehab. Susanne and Terry are starting to research outpatient therapy centers that specialize in TBI. When the time comes for Cooper to leave TIRR (we do not know when this will be), he will continue his daily therapy through a outpatient facility.

Specific Prayer Requests:
Relief from headaches and stomach pain for Cooper.
Muscle Relaxation and Flexibility
Maximum Efforts and Outcomes for Cooper during therapy
Wisdom for Cooper's Medical Team
Wisdom and Peace for Terry and Susanne in choosing a outpatient therapy location
Rest. peace and God's comfort for Cooper and the Reid Family

Thank you all for your continued support and prayers. We see you and we feel your love. Our strength comes from the Lord and your prayers to him.
Psalm 28:7-8
7 The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him. 8 The LORD is the strength of his people, a fortress of salvation for his anointed one.

Hi friends! Quick update on Cooper. He had a good weekend. He has speech and physical therapy today and is getting phenol injections in his feet. These injections help with muscle spasticity. Terry & Susanne are still researching outpatient rehab centers for when Cooper leaves TIRR. Please continue to pray for Cooper.
Maximum efforts and results during therapy sessions
Strength and endurance for Cooper
Phenol injections and other treatments to have intended effect
Peace  and comfort for Cooper, Terry & Susanne
Wisdom for Medical staff
Wisdom for Terry and Susanne when choosing a facility for Cooper's next step.
Please continue to pray for Cooper. He is doing exactly what he needs to do right now to regain strength, control of function and speech. His therapy is daily and repetitive. Repetition is so important during this stage. We have said it so many times, and it is till true. This is a marathon. and with your prayers and support, Cooper will finish the race. Your prayers for Cooper and his family give them strength and comfort during this time. Thank you!

1 Corinthians 15:57-58,  “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.” Knowing that the victory will come through Christ, we are called to be steadfast, and abound in the work of the Lord.

Cooper Update:
12.12.22

Praises: Casting has been successful. This process has given him more flexibility and the stability to hold his weight.

Cooper’s torso and neck muscles are getting stronger. He is able to hold his head up for a short period of time by himself. 🙌🏻🙌🏻

Cooper is still having stomach issues. He is scheduled for a colonoscopy tomorrow. His
Stomach is our main priority right now. He is down to 115lbs. They ran blood test to see if he is malnourished. Blood came back ok. Possibly going to put him on a iv drip nutrition. Also they are  going to check to see if he is having trouble breaking down the food and absorbing it. They are looking at changing his formula to one where the protein is already broken down and then his stomach won’t have to do that.

Specific Prayer Requests:

1. Safe and successful colonoscopy. Pray they accurately are able to diagnose and treat Cooper’s stomach problems.

2. Pray doctors prescribe the right medication to stop his stomach pain.

3. Pray for his vision to heal and return

4. Pray for more awareness and interaction from Cooper

5. Pray for his speech to return

6. Pray for faith, peace and wisdom for the Reid’s. Pray that they continue to feel our prayers and Gods comfort during this journey 💙

Cooper Update: 12.15.22
Cooper had the colonoscopy yesterday. They did a biopsy and have started treating him for ulcerative colitis, while waiting on biopsy results. They have admitted him to Children's Memorial to treat this. The plan is to start him on steroids and a Remicade IV infusion. Cooper will most likely be at Children's for at least a week. He will be seen by a GI specialist while at Children's and they will not send him back to TIRR until they see improvement with his GI issues. The Remicade could be a long term treatment plan for the inflammation in the stomach he has been experiencing. Though this may seem like a set back, we are grateful to be in the hospital under the care of a GI specialists. Cooper cannot make progress with rehab until his stomach issues are resolved. He has lost a lot of weight. He is weak, and just cannot give full efforts in rehab.  As always, we are grateful you all have been so faithful to keep praying for us. I know you are checking the page regularly for updates. Thank you all so much for your continued prayers.
 Specific prayer request:
Wisdom for medical staff.
Accurate diagnoses and treatment plan for Cooper's stomach problems.
Adequate nutrition to ensure healing and weight gain.
Pain relief for Cooper.
Faith and strength for Cooper, Terry and Susanne.
"He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength...Those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint." — Isaiah 40:29,31

Gracious God,
I call on you right now in a special way.
It is through your power that Cooper was created. Every breath he takes, every morning he wakes, and every moment of every hour, Cooper lives under your power.
I ask you now to touch him with that same power. For if you created him from nothing,
you can certainly recreate him now.
Fill him with the healing power of your spirit.
Cast out anything that should not be in him.
Mend all that is broken. Root out any unproductive cells. Restore any blocked pathways, heal his stomach, restore his neuro pathways, and rebuild any damaged areas. Remove all inflammation and
cleanse any infection. Let the warmth of your healing love pass through Cooper’s body
to make new any unhealthy areas so that his body will function the way you created it to function. Restore Cooper to full health
in mind and body so that he may serve you the rest of his life. Cooper is yours Lord💙 Heal him so that he may do your work here on earth all the days of his life 💙2️⃣2️⃣

Cooper Update! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 From Susanne :

We are back at TIRR tonight after a 2 week stay at children’s memorial. Cooper was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease and has had 2 rounds of the Remicade infusion. He is doing much better. We still have challenges to figure out but we feel as though we are heading in the right direction. He is still not following commands or verbal at this time but we are praying to see progress now that we are able to treat this disease the best we can and focus on rehab.

We are very thankful to be back and praying for a new start for Cooper.

Terry and I are doing ok. The text messages, cards, phone calls, fb messages keeps our spirits up and encourages us each and everyday. We thank you all for the continued prayers for Coop and hope to see everyone soon ♥️

Keep praying friends!!! Pray for Coopers progress, and that he can focus on rehab right now without stomach pain or issues. 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Cooper Update! Your prayers are working friends. Susanne shared she was almost scared to share this afraid of jinxing his progress.. KEEP PRAYING 🙏🏻They are working and we need to stay diligent. This is from Susanne ❤️

Cooper has had 2 really good days back at TIRR. He looks so much better and you can tell he is feeling better. Everyone was so glad to see him back. They have all told me how much better he looks. Poor kid was so sick. One of his therapists said, ”I got my Cooper back” that was so encouraging to hear.

He has been complaining about pain in his leg when we ask him what hurts. Today Libby his PT was doing an assessment on him and we discovered we think it’s his right hip. She is going to ask for an X-ray. This makes so much sense because when we turn him over on that side he moans and grimaces in pain. Praying it’s nothing too serious and something that can be easily fixed.

Libby also thought at first we wouldn’t have to recast his right foot but she decided she wants to make it perfect and we are good with that so he will have a few more days in a cast. We were worried that all of her hard work and efforts over the past few months would be lost after 2 weeks in the hospital. Terry and I worked really hard keeping them in line so he won’t have another set back. Sounds like we did a pretty good job.

This weekend and Monday will be slow due to another holiday but hopefully we will get to spend it at TIRR and not the hospital.

We have heard he will get his 3rd Remicade infusion around the 14th and we should probably still be here for that.

He is still at his baseline as far as his motor skills and his alertness but still praying that will come in time. I have been doing a lot of research and finding new ways that can possibly help Cooper once we leave for out patient rehab. We have decided CNS in Dallas is the best place for him. Our goal is to stay with him in Dallas during the week and be home on the weekends. We know once we get him home with family and friends he will continue to make progress.

Please keep the prayers coming. They are working. We still have a long ways to go but I know we will get there. God is listening and interceding. Today I have hope and I wanted to share that hope with all of you!!

God is good.. All of the time! All of the time… God is good!

Yesterday was another good day for Cooper 💙

He had a morning speech therapy session where he answered questions (by moving his head) quickly and consistently. During his afternoon physical therapy session he worked his legs out on the “total gym“. He was able to do leg presses on commands from Libby (his physical therapist) with a very low weight. This is so encouraging to see🙌🏻 God is faithful and Good!
Thank you all for your faithful prayers 💙

Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful
