This is a very nice stadium......no bench seats and great viewing of the game regardless.  Montgomery has lost their first 3 games this season to some good competition: 6A New Caney(3-0) 49-14:  5A-D1 Barbers Hill(2-1) 42-10;  and 5A-D2 Dayton(2-1) by a score of 35-28 last week.   Under new HC Grant Cooper they are beginning to come together as a team now with his system.  The Bears lost quite a bit from last season's (11-1) squad, but went 6-0 in district. This season's team is young but maturing every week.

Montgomery has a soph QB #4 Reggie Williams at the helm, and after looking at some clips I can see why.  This guy is a speed burner deluxe.....hands down. He can create his own space and then he's eating yards like nobody's business.  In the meantime.....he does have several other speedburners to spread it out to.  #25 Damian Tayor sometimes is the RB, and sometimes a receiver.......either way he can take it to the house in space.  He's only a soph. too.  Then there's #5 Jaden Williams(5-11/Sr) that runs it and catches it too.  They have some more skill guys too, but these 3 seem to be the main dudes on offense gaining the yards.

So far their soph QB Williams is still a "work in progress" in the passing game.  He flat out misses lots of receivers or throws the ball into coverages he should not have done......interceptions or knocked away.  He does have a strong enough arm.......just still green as you might expect. But lookout when he runs it.....he can beat you to the sideline, between the tackles, or just out in space easily.  That's why they have him behind center......he's got that athletic ability you cannot teach.

The Bears do have another QB they have been using also on occasions.......#11 Nick Shivers(6-1/Sr).  He's listed as a WR/QB, but normally he's catching passes or running it on motion plays out of the spread.  But when he's in there at QB......he's really the better passing QB for the Bears.  He can take off and run it too, no problemo.  The problem the Bears have is their lines.......they are getting whooped every week.  Not good for your offense, Huh?   On defense they have speed, but again they are getting whooped up front.....and not able to pressure the opposing QB enough.

Looks to me like Argyle will have a definitive advantage on the lines tonight......but need to be very careful about the speed of Montgomery's skill guys.  You cannot over-react or you will get burned.  They will run some misdirection and counters......or just slip around you with their speed.

Argyle does have plenty of speed in the secondary, and the pursuit of the entire defense is top notch.  Offensively......Argyle will again gash for big yards tonight in their running game.  I just hope they can develop that passing game better as we begin district play next week against Frisco Memorial in Frisco.  Both QB's have low completion percentages so far.

This will be the first meeting between the 2 schools in any sport.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7 pm.  in Crusader Stadium.  Capacity is about 7700.....approx. 5500 on the home side,  2200 on the Student Union side, and then they have an additional 1500 seating in the end zone berms. I think all the seats have seatbacks.....except the end zones.  Very nice video scoreboard as well......and plenty big, too!

Both schools are in the 5A-D2 Classification in this alignment period.  Montgomery dropped down from 6A to 5A about 4 yrs ago when they built that other high school Montgomery Lake Creek High School......which is also 5A-D2.  I think Lake Creek is called the Lions......so you have the Bears and the Lions over in Montgomery now.

Guess what?   Just as an aside......the Lake Creek Lions of Montgomery are (3-0) to start the season this year.  They went 5-5 last season, but are lighting up the scoreboard offensively this season.  They are in the same district as the Bears.

There will be no video Livestream of this game tonight......unless you want to pay for one on Youtube.  The Argyle Broadcast Network will have the play-by-play call hosted by Sportsgram Channel 9.  Pregame broadcast begins at 6:30 pm.  GO EAGLES!!!

I look for both teams to show improvement this week from previous weeks.  Next week starts district play for both teams.  I have a feeling Argyle will go off offensively tonight since they were not happy with their offensive execution last week against Grapevine.  They have a passing game in need of some serious connections and timing for sure.  Those receivers are just not getting the balls coming their way to get enough work.......the running game has been the main staple offensively so far.

Montgomery won the toss and will defer to the 2nd half, so Argyle will be receiving the kickoff.  #4 QB Williams for the Bears averages 9 yds every time he carries the ball....so Argyle will need to contain him for sure.  The Bears are comers and have a very athletic team......they should be in the playoff picture by the end of district play.

Read option for Robinson gets the first down at the 4 yd line.  Now the Bears stop Bunnell cold.  Fake to Bunnell and Robinson throws it back across his body for an interception.  The Bears are quick......they take over on their own 8.  Missed opportunity for Argyle and ill-advised throw.  Field goal would have been easy.

Reggie Williams finds Taylor Shavers wide open and his is finally brought down at the 15.  Now Rider Adler is down to the Argyle 8.  Reggie Williams runs the read option and finds Jaden Williams in the end zone for a Bears TD.......they are looking sharp and FAST!!

All tied up a 7 all now in the first quarter.  That was a 92 yd drive, folks......against a very good defense.
