The Alto Yellowjackets travel to Tenaha this Saturday to take on the Tigers. It’s Tenaha’s homecoming and kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. The Jackets and Tigers go way back….to 1929….but have only played 14 times! It was 2015 the last time these two met, a 52-7 Alto win at home; Alto leads the series 10-4.

The Jackets defeated Mount Enterprise on Friday 46-34 struggling a bit defensively while the Tigers were blanked by Carlisle 48-0. Tenaha started the season 2-0 but has lost an uncharacteristic 4 in a row. Their 13-game district win streak was snapped by the Indians and this is the first time since 2019 the Tigers have lost 4 in a row.

Schedules and results for the 2022 season thus far:

Shelbyville 48 - Alto 44
Alto 48 - West Sabine 22
Alto 22 - San Augustine 8
Garrison 28 - Alto 20
Alto 32 - Groveton 20
Alto 46 - Mount Enterprise 34

Tenaha 50 - West Sabine 38
Tenaha 12 - San Augustine 6 (OT)
Joaquin 56 - Tenaha 6
Arp 66 - Tenaha 51
Dekalb 65 - Tenaha 14
Carlisle 48 - Tenaha 0

ALTO-TENAHA SERIES

All-Time Record for Alto:
     602 wins | 383 losses | 34 ties | 1,019 total games

All-Time Record for Tenaha:
     535 wins | 416 losses | 37 ties | 988 total games

All-Time Series Record:
     Alto - 10 wins | Tenaha - 4 wins

Alto’s longest winning streak vs. Tenaha:
     6 wins in a row (1930-1938)

Tenaha’s longest winning streak vs. Alto:
     No streak

Current streak:  Alto 2 wins in a row (2014 - now)

Do the Jackets go 3 in a row or do the Tigers get back to their winning ways making the homecoming crowd happy?

Could have been Carlisle 👀...lol

Could have been Mount or Arp…or West Sabine, but dang those August/first of September homecomings s u c k with the heat. 😂

Have places like Tenaha and Joaquin always had Saturday homecomings? Our folks aren’t thrilled that it takes up a Saturday night (you know, college football and all! 😂). You probably don’t know the answer to that Chain but maybe someone does. Greezy? 🤣 Oh yeah, he’s in the lock up…..or worse.

I think Tenaha hoco is usually on a Saturday, if I'm not mistaken. Can't speak for other schools.

Gotcha. Seems like Beckville and Joaquin had Saturday homecoming games, too. Maybe it’s a Panola/Shelby County thing. I’m just glad Tenaha’s is not at 2:00 in the afternoon. 🥵

Ours was on Saturday this year for the first time in 13 years. Tenaha HOCO is on Saturday every year. We try to do HOCO early in the season so it’s not a district game. HOCO is full of distractions that lead to teenage boys being focused on things other than a football game. If they’re going to allow that to get them beat, our staff believes it’s best that it happens in a meaningless game. Last HOCO game we lost cost us a playoff berth.

We’ve done the same thing by having it earlier in the season but it’s just so dang hot. This past Friday night was much nicer with the cooler temps and it getting darker a little earlier.

STILL, definitely a distraction as attested by ours last week. Out of the 8 guys participating in HOCO, 6 of them were starters and had to cut warmups early for pictures. My son was one of them and he’s not smiling in any of those pre-ceremony pics. He was hacked off and didn’t see the need in pics that early. When posting on FB, his mom was like “Couldn’t you have at least smiled in the one with your cousin? She’s looking beautiful and happy and you look mad as h-e-l-l!” 😂
