What did he want?

You don't think he was just using White Oak as a stepping stone to a bigger job?

I don’t know the specifics of what he wanted. I was told he wanted a raise and Gilbert told him no. I believe it wasn’t a month later he left for flower mound marcus.

Anyone know of other schools having a girls athletic director and a regular athletic director?

I remember back in 2012-2017 that WO was a powerhouse in the district.

Replace Hughes Springs, Redwater, New Boston, Harmony, and Quitman with Gladewater, Tatum, and Atlanta and life becomes a little different for you.

White Oak was one of the biggest 3AD1 schools in the area from 2013-2017. Now they are the one of the smaller schools in their own district.

When White Oak has been the biggest school they have more success, but when they are not they have been a .500 program.

Big question in White Oak right now is will we continue to hire friends, family, and buddies and continue being below avg in football, or will we do what’s necessary to build a quality football program here? Would be a big step in the right direction to do what PNG did by hiring Todd dodge as a consultant to find a great football coach.

Is the community going to make the commitment to having a success football program even if it steps on the toes of the basketball or baseball program?

You have to be all in. You can’t have a school of specialists and be a good small school football program.

I think you just described a lot of high school athletic programs.

Replacing schools with other schools in a certain time period is twisting things. We don’t know if we would’ve done well against them during that time or not. Would we have competed against GW, Tatum, and Atlanta during those times? Idk I don’t think we would’ve been blown out like now.

Since the 80s White Oak is a .500 football program.

They had a little uptick from 2008-2017, but as soon as they got back to their more traditional opponents they are magically right back where they were.

We have 30 district championships, certainly in the top % of schools in this area. So sue me for wanting to get back to our original roots of good Rouchneck football.

So you’re saying we should just accept getting blown out on the regular now because of enrollment? Lol ok. Guess we won’t ever beat Tatum again then. We should just quit football because we don’t have 20 or 40 more kids. Lol

I think WO would be a good smash mouth football team again like they use to be. I know the spread is better and the kids like that more but if youre going to be a spread team year in and year out you need to be very run heavy as the base offense because you wont have a true QB every year.  The slot t is an offense that you can be productive in year in and year out regardless of athletes Burk knows the slot t. He taught it to the James Bowie coaching staff 10 years ago and they have built their brand on that slot t....They will win district this year. Of course is small division but they are competitive every year because they are good at what they do. White Oak could be the same.

Will the community be all in? I’m not sure really. I’m not saying we should be winning state in football, but since 2017 there has been a significant and lasting decline in the football program. We want to compete every year.

In the last 5 years we’ve only made the playoffs once that is if we don’t make it this year, when they’re taking 4 teams now. We have never been down like that before as far as I know. We need to do something and this isn’t it. I hear at every game now “oh we gotta score here, we gotta get the goose egg off the score board or the kids will give up.” I don’t like that mentality at all. We’re on a downward trend and I don’t see it stopping anytime soon. Look at the undercassmans scores. Seems like we’re getting swept or nearly swept every week.

It’s hard to believe how far y’all have fallen in football. When you’re competitive in every other sport it’s not an athlete problem. Of course I’m from Sabine so it don’t hurt my feelings to much seeing y’all on a downwards spiral. 🤣
