I don't care what conference you play in, a 2 loss team should NOT be ranked above a 1 loss team ever. Just because you play in a certain conference doesn't mean that you haven't done your job as a team with the schedule you were given. And that is what "college" athletics should be about, not who brings in the most money, especially when only the NCAA and schools are really getting rich, NOT all the players.

Coastal Carolina is 9-1. Are they a Top 10 team? Why or why not?

@DannyZuco's top 9 without even considering records/resumes:

Georgia (10-0)
Ohio St (10-0)
TCU (10-0)
Michigan (10-0)
USC (9-1)
Tennessee (9-1)
Clemson (9-1)
Coastal Carolina (9-1)
North Carolina (9-1)

LSU with 2 losses has a better resume based off of current rankings than any team on this list.  But hey, with your logic, Coastal Carolina and North Carolina are far superior and should be ranked higher because that win % looks better.

Better Resume: They lost to Florida State and Tennessee...So far they have beaten--Old Miss & Alabama--All those other teams haven't lost but one game, some none, and yet, because you think you have a better resume makes you the "better team".....it's because you support your team...Which I don't have a problem with, but with 9 teams still with just no losses or 1 loss--a 2 loss team should not be considered in a 4 team playoff. & like Valhalla says--"ALL games matter from the beginning".

Plus, I would have ranked North Carolina ahead of Coastal Carolina.....

Why shouldn't they be a Top Ten Team--they have played the college football schedule there were handed. So far they have beaten all but one team.....Taking Vahalla's school of thought....every game is a playoff game, so they have competed up until this point.

Reason for a true playoff--of at least 32 teams, ALL Conference Champions make the playoffs, with At large bids afterwards, and like basketball, there will be people that think they deserve to be there.....but at least everyone is in the competition. Maybe we find out for sure if LSU is for real, they beat everyone in the playoffs, just like every other sport. I am tired of seeing 16 elitest deciding who the "champions are".  They are NO different than the sports writers who use to decide the champions. A beauty contest.

A real playoff system at least lets the teams  on the field decide, and with ALL conference champions in the field, there can be no whiners.

Either way, I think Clemson takes care of North Carolina.  Coastal Carolina has a loss against a 3 win team... they won't even be considered.

Everyone else has a pretty clear path to finish with their current loss record except Michigan/Ohio State... then likely LSU takes an L vs Georgia... and if they don't, I am refinancing my house and going to watch LSU in the playoff

You are forgetting one key point of my philosophy.

You don’t matter if you are a G5 school.

Don't have a problem with this, unless they have a 40 team playoff. Then all Conference champions would get a bye week. Only.

And that is your problem.......you don't think they matter, yet they continue to beat P5 schools yearly....

G5 teams play roughly 2 p5 games per team. So let’s just spitball and say that between the 5 G5 leagues they play roughly 120 games per year against the power 5. They win about 5–10 a year. Less than 10% of the time over all of p5 games. And of those 5-10 wins 90% of those come against the bottom feeder p5 anyway….

The truth is among ALL the G5 teams, there are only 3-5 wins per season worth even talking about. That does not warrant playoff auto bids. It just doesn’t…. You can choose to focus on the handful of games out of 100+ per year, but it doesn’t change the real truth of the matter.

If we want real parody in college football like we have in the NFL, then the playoff format that allows all conference champions to have a seat at the table would be the biggest step.

That is also why it will never happen.  If CUSA starts getting $7-10mil per school in their TV contract because they have a couple of schools that have made it to the 2nd round of the playoffs, they are taking t-shirt fans and money away from the P5 schools and conferences...  and recruits too.  Boise St isn't the #1 school on any top recruit's list, but if Alabama, Michigan, and Ohio St offers you a spot but you are 5 deep in the depth chart, Boise is a fine option to play now and still get some exposure.

How do we know, the P5 schools simply don't play the better G5 Schools until a bowl game, and then if the P5 school loses they blame the fact that some of their stars sat out for the draft......

With the Big 12 Adding some teams from the G5-are you going to say the Big 12 isn't a P5 Conference anymore?

The SEC isn't the only conference out there. And playoff expansion, to a real playoff system, not a committee beauty pageant, is the only thing that will make college football BETTER!!!!

When we say, 'Coastal Carolina plays P5 schools yearly, and beats them', let's define exactly what that means...

They've played a P5 school for the last 4 years. So let's not make it sound as if they've been doing it since the beginning of time.

The first year, they played South Carolina, and lost. Since then, they've played and beaten Kansas 3 times. So let's not pretend their playing top notch P5 teams either.

As for a non P5 team joining a P5 conference, those teams won't be the same at that point as they were in the non P5 conference. Why? Because of recruiting.

I do agree with an expended playoff. I've argued that for years.

Cincy just lost to a middle of the road Arkansas earlier this year. That first line of your sentence is just not true.

Look, the group of 5 is the group of 5 because of branding and marketing and recruiting.

If they can improve their branding and marketing and recruiting, then the group of 5 no longer is the group of 5.  As a whole, top to bottom... we would almost never see these schools as the favorite.... Just for fun let's play a game:

PAC                                                     AAC

USC                                         UCF
Oregon                                    Cincy
Utah                                         Tulane
UCLA                                       SMU
Washington                             Houston
Oregon St                                ECU
Washington St                         Memphis
Arizona                                    Navy
Arizona St                                Tulsa
Colorado                                  Temple
Cal                                            USF
Stanford

Line them up and pick a winner...  Without a doubt the top 5 teams in the PAC have more talent than the top 5 in the AAC this year.  The bottom 3-4 PAC teams would be favored over the bottom 3-4 of the AAC.

Now if you want to do UCF or Cinci vs Stanford and Cal, then you are arguing the better smell of human feces vs peppermint potpourri.

Arkansas would actually be 10th out of 14 teams in the SEC this year.  So they aren't even middle of the road SEC this year and I think they would beat the best G5 team this year (Tulane).

Expanded playoff is fine. But everyone needs to stop pretending that every other G5 team is some Cinderella story waiting to happen.

I think UCF has the most potential... being in Orlando and having such a big student body is only positive signs.  Now if they can get a bigger stadium and a faithful fan base to go with recruiting and winning, they will be a staple in the top 25.
