Hey Raider20 you were born in 73 right when is the last time Lumberton or coach Reyes made it to the 3rd round of the playoff?

Lumberton has only made it this far once in school history until this year. It was 2007. Lost in Regional Semi’s to Waller.

Just two months after former Lumberton High School athletic director Chris Babin announced his resignation, the Raiders have found his replacement. Lumberton announced Thursday night that James Reyes would be its new athletic director and head football coach.

“I am excited and my family is excited to get everything ready to get building a successful program,” Reyes said. “We are going to come and build championship culture. I want to win at everything. I will give our coaches and our kids the necessary tools to win. I want everyone in all sports to win and playoff games.”

The Lumberton ISD board confirmed Reyes at Thursday night’s board meeting and he is expected to begin his role as athletic director and head football coach on Monday. This will be Reyes’ first head football coaching and athletic director position in his coaching career.

Reyes, a Nacogdoches native, is currently the offensive coordinator at Center High School in Center. In Reyes’ 20-year coaching career, he has been an offensive coordinator at Nacogdoches High School, Midlothian High School, McKinney High School and Northwestern High School.

Reyes graduated from Marshall High School before attending Baptist University on a baseball scholarship. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin University in 2001. In addition to coaching football, Reyes is also the head track and golf coach at Center.

 

The Raiders under Babin went 30-33 overall since he took over in 2015. Babin, a Lumberton alumni, led the Raiders to their two only playoff appearances and wins in 2018 and 2019.

 

“Babin did a great job and building something up that traditionally hasn’t been very good,” Reyes said. “He did a great job winning two playoff games. I am going to jump and build on what he did. From what I’ve heard, the kids are great and with great kids come great results.”

The Raiders transitioned to more of a spread offense with senior quarterback Drake Boykin under center this past season. Reyes, who has been an offensive coordinator for the last 10 years, runs a similar system and said to expect the same with him at the helm.

“I’m a spread guy,” Reyes said. “We are going to do that in (Lumberton). We’re going to be mainly a one (running) back team, maybe a tight end sometimes and four receivers. We’re going to be in the shotgun and play fast.”

 

The Raiders football team will look to bounce back in 2021 after a 2-7 season in 2020.

Lumberton made the playoffs in 2007 and 2008, reaching the 3rd round in 2007.

That news article is wrong (not surprised) with it stating that 218 and 2019 being their only playoff appearances. Shotty reporting on the BE part but that is normal.

Naw that’s not true. Alvin Credeur led them to the Regional Semi’s in 2007 losing to Waller. 2008 lost in the 1st round. Babin took over in 2015 and we lost to Crosby in Bi-District. In 2018 we dropped from 5A to 4A. Babin won 2 Bi-District games in 2018 & 2019. Had a horrible 2020 season. Reyes 1st year 2021 we lost 1st round to Lindale.

Now up until this year, Babin was a coach for every team that won a playoff game. 2007 he was the OC. 2018 & 2019 he was a the HC.

1966 & 1967 Lumberton was called Chance-Loeb at the time and did not play in any district. 1968 was the first year as the LUMBERTON RAIDERS.

soo in the 55 years yall made the playoffs 7 times thats including this year, did you know that in that time Kilgore, Lindale, chapel hill played for 6 state championships and Winning 3 of them. the 3 loses were Carthage over kilgore, Henderson(in our district now) over Chapel hill(won the title the next year), and Argyle over Lindale in 2020

Was the purpose of all that to ridicule Lumberton?  Yes, these kids don’t get there often, but most folks should be happy to see them having some success.  And the exciting part, when they hit the field game day, all that history has little reference.  There’ll be 11 Raiders & 11 Bulldogs each playing their hearts out.  Hope for no injuries and a great football game.

It not ridicule at all ...it's experience in those big games, having that will help you overcome adversity and the pressure of ALL EYES ON ME in those big games......thought that Lumberton talked alot of trash like the guy I work with from Lumberton

But going back to 1966?  C’mon man, that’s over the top.  Still, I expect a good game.  If you’re going to be a big dog you’ll have to face other big dogs.

Yes, i went back to 66. Alot of kid's moms & dads stayed close to home, grandparents living in the same house for years. Cousins, Brothers, uncles, dads played for the TEAM so with that being said.....History can define the future. i never said it was not going to be a good game. its the 3rd round its going to be a great game

Love these Tyler “BEast Texas” people are overlooking the raiders. Wait till that “3a lineman” runningback Lumberton has runs over a few of CH linebackers and DB’s. We will see who the real “beasts” are on the field Friday night. Might end up being a long bus ride home back to East Texas.

It’s going to be a long bud ride regardless, because CH seems to only get Houston area stadiums for neutral sites.  
 

I can promise you one thing.  Ain’t nobody from CH overlooking Lumberton.  Having confidence that the game is so able doesn’t mean preparations and planning aren’t being taken seriously.

It’s hard for anybody to run over the CH LBs and DBs, because it’s usually never just one at the point of impact.  11 wild dogs that are ALL fast and mean.
