According to the Gilmer broadcast last week they run the ball about 70% of the time because they have the two best running backs in 4A.

There are quite a few backs in all of 4A that would object to that. I think I’d rather shoot myself than listen to Gilmer announcers ever again.

They also said they have best special teams in the state

I cringe myself listening to the Gilmer broadcast. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard “He’s gonna take it to the house!” only to be tackled for a loss.  That might be a slight exaggeration but you get my point. They are awful.

Not saying I would do better. There’s a reason why I’ve never volunteered to do it.

Wow, so if they got the best running backs in all of 4A and the best special teams in the entire state, regardless of classification… it’s going to be pretty upsetting and disappointing when they get shut down completely

Our punt and overall kicking game really sucked against Rusk.  Sometimes a team with a great punter can tilt the field in their favor.  That happened when LE knocked Gilmer out in the first round.  Will Middlebrooks was a amazing punter and pretty good QB.  No, Gilmer does not have the best special teams, just good athletes, like Carthage.  Some games, our special teams are the GOAT and sometimes they play like a 7th grade B-team.  Our announcers make me cringe and roll my eyes a lot, as well.  Take our broadcasters as fun entertainment and laugh at the outlandishness.  'Bout all we all can do, cause they ain't gonna change.

Lol I understand. I think most hometown broadcast teams have a certain degree of “homerism” to them. Sometimes it can be amusing or charming, sometimes it just comes across as cringy or embarrassing.

Gilmer just needs to stay home.Everybody in EAST TX thinks gilmer will get donkey stomped by Carthage

(Embarrassed)

I for one will eat more crow than ever before if Gilmer does come out on top. I don’t even mean it from a place of arrogance, I am truly that confident this year. And again, Carthage has won 7 straight meetings in this series and it hasn’t been close. Gilmer will have to make a believer out of me when it comes to facing Carthage.

Please the rings are already ordered. Carthage probably becomes the First State Champion to not trail in a season. Well I am sure 83 Dfield accomplished that but not many.

I feel what you are saying, and I feel the same.  Gilmer has absolutely not shown it can play Carthage very close.  Yes, we are blessed to have some outstanding athletes, but Carthage has Surratt and Preston AND outstanding athletes.  Our coaches will definitely have their hands full trying to figure out how to sustain any kind of a drive offensively against Preston's defense, and they will also have their hands full with making stops defensively.  Until we prove otherwise, I don't feel very confident playing Carthage.  Do I think we can beat Carthage?  Absolutely!  But we have put so many mental, as well as physical hurdles in our own path that a well-coached and consistent team like Carthage is our kryptonite.  I just hope we don't get embarrassed.  I hope for a good game with Carthage period.  I think that if we can somehow win, or keep this game close, it will bode well for future matchups.

In the last seven meetings, it appeared that the Buckeyes were playing checkers while Carthage was playing chess.  If Carthage continues to do to every team they play what they've been doing all year, ending it with #9, I would probably go so far as to say this is the best team they've ever had, period.

I think it would be awesome for everyone if it’s a good game! Obviously, as a selfish fan I’d like to see my team destroy everyone, lol. But I think it would be nice for this to be a great game in such a big spotlight for both teams, players, fan bases etc.

The reins will be off……or if not off to start game, will have a specialist on hand to take them off quickly, if needed.
