Blowouts?

And for the record: there is no such thing as "running up the score" in the fourth round of the State playoffs.

Granted, it's best practices to pull your starters once a decisive W is assured (to protect your starters), but sportsmanship is not a factor. There's absolutely no reason to not run your offense and not try to score with your backups.

80-6 is 80-6 regardless of when the game is played. There is always a sportsmanship factor— don’t care if It’s underwater polo or double Chinese checkers with a poodle.

Depends on whom doing the scoring. 2nd string or JV then that is more telling of your team. Grow up and stop them.  Starters in a 40 pt game and scoring is poor sportsmanship.

Respectfully disagree.

An 80-6 nondistrict blowout against Palookaville Homeschool Academy is equivalent to a scrimmage against your own JV scout team.

An 80-6 playoff blowout against the defending state champ in the fourth-round of the playoffs is a remarkable accomplishment.

Depends on what part of the game you are in.  40 points in the second quarter is not enough to assure victory.   It is a playoff game so make sure you close it out.  Gunter baseball state champion ship  early 90s up 9-0 in the 6th I think.  Backups come in and Gunter holds on for a 9-5 win.   I know baseball is different because there is no clock, but still.

Gunter 2016 regional final against Winona up 40 to nothing or so.  Put in the JV and at 40-21 the starters had to come back in to wrap it up.

4 rounds deep in the playoffs the other team's starters are more likely to be alot better than your backups.

Up 40 - 0 in the 2nd or early 3rd is where you leave your linemen in for an extra series or 2, but let your reserve skill guys play.

Might tell that to Van Alstyne’s announcer
