Wow!!! Definitely brings back some great memories!!! I was fortunate enough to get my father's Model 742 30-06 and Model 1100 Automatic 12 Gauge shot gun when he passed away. He bought the 742 in 1960, the first year it was offered!! I was doing some research on the guns several years ago and found out that both the 742 and the 1100 use the same action! Genius idea to save money on manufacturing and as it turned out the action was incredibly dependable so it worked out great!! Just thought it was weird, but then again I'm not a gunsmith!!!

Also the "Gibson Discount Center" logo brought back some memories!! Early version of Wal-Mart that didn't make it!! One of my first jobs was stocking for them at night!! Thanks for posting!!

I own 3 of those guns...  I have the Remington 742 .30-06 commonly referred to as the Woods master, the Remington 1100, and the Marlin .30-30....

There have been so many rounds shot through the .30-06 that it won't cycle anymore unless you shoot 180 grain rounds or larger.  One of these days I'll take it to a gunsmith and get that fixed.

If you are ever down around Kerrville you need to hit up the Gibson’s down there. Their gun section is amazing.

My wife bought me a new Remington 742 30.06 in 1973 from Gibson's discount center ... the first year we got married ... I killed a lot of deer 🦌 with that gun .... They made a fancy anniversary edition several years later and I bought a brand new one in the box and I bought one at an auction a few years ago ... I killed this deer 🦌  with it on my place near Garrison ....
