The thing that the committee needs to make clear is are we selecting the 4 best teams or the 4 most deserving teams. Tcu had a resume worthy of the top 4 when comparing it to the teams that were the first 3-4 left out. But I do not believe tcu was a better team than the 3-4 that were left out. I think Tennessee and Bama are better football teams than TCU. But they were not more deserving because they had losses they shouldnโ€™t have had.ย
ย

So it all boils down to best vs most deserving. The committee chooses differently every year. They also ignore injuries some years and factor them in others. ย Thereโ€™s just absolutely no consistency.ย

Here's the thing, I liked Tennessee UNTIL they lost Hendon Hooker...then they dropped in quality and ability. All they had done went out the window because he wasn't there.

Alabama wasn't that great...they wouldn't have beaten TCU. They barely beat Texas WITHOUT their QB and TCU had theirs...they would have popped them possibly...I mean, you just never know.ย

The point to the final 4 was exactly what we saw, the semi games were the best we ever saw (closest) and we saw results people didn't expect. The same will continue to happen when we get 12 teams with those higher seeds...it'll be trick or treat MF's!!! That's what makes it all fun...

The playoffs does not have to be 12 teams with every conference champ plus at large. Use a computer formula that factors in 3 things in a weighted formula.ย
1. points per drive offensively.ย
2. Points per drive defensively.ย
3. An in depth SOS formula that factors your schedule plus the schedules of the teams on your schedule.ย
ย

The top 4 teams in that formula make the playoffs. That is how you select the 4 BEST teams. ย You use real analytics. This would also prevent teams from playing meaningless games because they will need to constantly be trying to improve sos while also making sure they bring their A game every week or else risk losing ground in the points per drive metrics. The points per drive metrics are the best Way to gauge a team imo.ย

why don't we factor in coaches paycheck too?

You can't just arbitrarily exclude conference champions with a formula or biased committee ... they need to be part of a playoff that either excludes or advances them on the field, not in some backroom biased process ....

These are the net points per drive rankings. Meaning their offensive points per drive minus the points they allowed per drive.ย
ย

Notice which teams are in the top 10. Notice their records. This points per drive stat matters. In the end itโ€™s all that matters. PPG is meaning less if you also give up tons. Yards per game is a joke stat. Points per possession is all that matters.ย

Now notice TCU is really the only team missing that everyone would โ€œthinkโ€ is a top 10 team. All the rest are there. Because that stat is the most important in football for wide scale evaluation of teams. What TcU did this year is special. Youโ€™ll rarely see a team accomplish what they did with that many come from behind barely escape wins.ย
