And that's my issue- anyone can cherrypick anything. "Wins vs Utah" isn't really something I'm looking at to judge a coach or program. It's kinda low hanging fruit. Other stuff like "hasn't won a bowl" is also tough. If a coach loses in the Rose Bowl, that's better than winning the Meineke Car Care Bowl.

I agree with the overall point that Riley has been a massive disappointment at USC (I never expected anything of him there though I know some did). I also think OU is in a much better place without him. His bad record vs Utah has very little to do with that.

I agree with your desire for nuance. However, the world we live in is focused on soundbytes and infographics. Insight and rationale is abandoned for the quick hit, and social media pwnage.

Call me a loser but I think I would rather not make the Big 12 championship and just make like the Alamo Bowl and let Jackson Arnold start and play the next two games.

No need for DG to play in the Alamo Bowl. Go get ready for the draft.

Not a bad idea, didn’t DG have a concussion last year too?

Same. We're playing on fumes right now. We're banged up in too many key spots.

We had a nice bounce back from last year's atrocity. Let's just take our consolation bowl game and be thrilled we're back on track. Going from 6-7 to 10-2 (or 9-3) is a big damn deal.

If I'm in DG's ear circle, I tell him to stand down and get ready for the draft or the University of Hawaii or whatever his next step is. Sooner nation thanks him for his service. He was an awesome transitional QB who stepped up in a difficult time. He'll always be an OU legend.

Transfer Portal

Out

DJ Graham WR/DN

Wish him well. He gave us a great moment, and I think did his best to contribute. It just didn't work out.

I would expect Oklahoma TE Joe John Finley to go with Lebby as his OC.

Agreed.

Do you think the dual co-OC roles will stay past the bowl, or do you think we hire outside?

I believe Seth Littrell is the favorite to get this job.

Stein at Oregon is another name floating around.

I want Washington's guy, but Stein would be a nice consolation prize.

There seems to be a lot smoke about Joe Jon Finley being promoted to OC.

I am not sure how I feel about that one.

I'm okay with him handling playcalling through the bowl game, but I'd like to at least go through the motions of an interview process.

Nothing against JJF, but he just doesn't have any skins on the wall as OC. There are guys currently on staff more qualified (Wells, Littrell). It seems hasty to just pull the trigger on Finley.

JFF has been under some of the best offensive minds in college football during his career. I am not saying that he will not be a good play caller.

I just personally don't think the Oklahoma OC job is a learn by trial position. Every Oklahoma OC this century has went on the be a HC. It might be the best coordinator position in the nation. We should not accept anything but the best and brightest in that spot.

This is a make or break hire for BV. I wouldn't hitch my wagon to someone unproven.

Agreed, I think we could do worse than Littrell, but even with all the things in his favor (OU alum, experienced playcaller, success as HC, etc.) I would still prefer opening the position and considering numerous candidates. There's no reason for a hasty "buddy hire" here.

He called plays for Missouri in the Texas bowl against Texas in Herman's first year.  Wasn't very good, lots of lateral stuff throughout the game that kept getting blown up.
