Can you image how many total penalties we’ll see in the Texas-OU game this year?  It’ll either be the most fair game ever called, or most penalized. My bet is on the latter, lol.
Valhalla
Good, solid win.  Defense looks to be real. The Offense is going to be feast or famine all year.

I'd rather take my chances against y'all in the RRS and CCG than any other team.

Frankly, I'd love it if they'd just put on some blinders and let us go at it barroom style.

Lebby will cost us 2-3 games this season (a minimum) and we're looking at another RRS shutout. This is what I'm talking about: Translation: our playcalling on 1st and 2nd down has been abysmal. However, we've consistently made big plays on 3rd and long-ish, so it's covered over this shortcoming. We keep getting behind the sticks, but have managed to break big plays when we need them. And that is NOT a long-term strategy. Lebby has got to drop the experimentation and trying to "subvert expectations" to show how clever he is. Power runs at the weak points of the defense. Quick-hitting play-action passes to the tight ends. Attack the corners with aggressive deep slant routes. Football 101.

I'm done with OU message boards. Too many trolls, sunshine-pumpers, and/or pants-pissers. My online sports talk is here and Twitter. Smoaky.com is the last stand for message boards and me. But don't be a stranger! It's nice to have another Sooner on here. I know my cynical takes can often be tiresome for ol' @Valhalla. 52 minutes ago, BudaSooner said: I like OU's chances to do the latter. Injuries, of course, could always throw a wrench into the works. If Gabriel should go down with injury like he did last year, I have HIGH hopes that we will see the advent of the Jackson Arnold era... Looking forward to it! But obviously hope that Gabriel can stay healthy. Agreed... anything can happen. Even greats like Bud, Barry, and Bob had times when big game wins were offset by inexplicable losses to meaningless opponents. Ultimately we're talking about 18-21 year-olds. Anything can happen. Kansas and Okie State would like nothing more than to spoil our farewell tour. WVa doesn't care about our RRS win. OU has never beaten BYU... ever. We've got some major payback due to TCU to cap off the regular season.  But yes, we control our destiny. Win and we're in. Simple as that. I agree with Venables: this is not a championship team... not yet. The rebuild remains in progress.

Oh dude, a HUGE part of it, but not just S&C... culture. Schmitty can only be effective if he's part of an aligned program. OU was aligned, and then it wasn't. Not gonna go into detail, but there were some issues toward the end of Bob Stoops's tenure. Those cracks got blown open when Riley took over, and we saw the result. But now, we're in alignment. From the OU admin and trustees down to the lowest intern and towel boy. As a result, Schmitty is allowed to be Schmitty, and the program is starting to reflect that. You look at this year's RRS for the best illustration. Everyone knows that UT is the better program at the moment. That's not doom-posting, it's the facts. They're at least a year ahead of us in their development. Yet somehow we managed to emerge victorious. Even the most burnt orange glasses will tell that OU made plays when they needed them, and UT didn't. Call it luck, fine, but it's an element of toughness that is ingrained early in offseason. That extra 1% of composure and perseverance that you need when the opposing team is on your goaline and has two massive linemen in their backfield. You know they're gonna go strength on strength and try to muscle it in... but they don't. You hold firm. That's what Schmitty brings to a fully aligned program. That's what he was bringing to A&M, and what he's brought back to OU.

It could be Strength and Conditioning too. We always disagreed on Jerry Schmidt... I always thought he was a HUGE part of our 2020 Orange Bowl team and the OL that came with them. I'm certainly not close to the OU program... Do you feel like OU's success this year is in part due to their S&C? S&C was the biggest issue under TBOW (Riley) and it was something that most fans that follow the programs daily were demanding be addressed the whole 2021 season. 1
