I had access to a lot of things behind the scenes, and I was always impressed with the professionalism and competence of the folks who worked there. That said, it's hard to believe there's been such a falloff in such a short time. Just shows the importance of good leadership in any organization. Just like with any company or large corporation, leadership starts with the CEO and in a school system, that would be the Superintendent. Not even from Henderson but there is a lot of red flags that are facts that any given person could look up. 2

No, maybe Henderson has never been a "basketball school" (however you're defining that) but Henderson has always had talented and competitive teams in various sports. This is a stupid and trollish take, even for you. I didn’t mean to imply that. Yes I recall that year . Fact of matter Henderson hasn’t been known for it. This isn’t a knock just a fact. Other sports the Lions certainly have for most part been competitive.

Hopefully he meant it that way?

Football has always been king in Henderson athletics (like pretty much every other town in Texas) but Henderson had a pretty good basketball program under Tommy Alexander and Jody Sory. 1

Coach Brooks Dozier had a successful run from 83-86. Coach Dozier came after Coach A retired and Coach Sory was hired when Coach Dozier died in 1986. Coach Dozier had some talented players Collin Wade, Joe Bradford, Cliff Thurmond, Calvin Neal, Gerry Davis, Darwin Pauley and Chris Jackson. Made playoffs 3 out of 4 years. During that run Jacksonville and Palestine when to State Tournament and Henderson split with them both years in same district. Coach Dozier had atleast two district championships.

Kenneth Lee Orr, 68, was arrested today by Henderson Police on a felony charge of misapplication of fiduciary property or property of financial institution greater than $2,500 and less than $30,000. Last fall, Henderson ISD discovered financial irregularities during a routine audit of the Henderson Football Booster Club’s financial records, according to a release from the ISD. After review, the information was turned over to the Henderson Police Department for further investigation. “Students, families and community members should know that the money donated to support the district’s students in their athletic and extracurricular activities will always be used to benefit Henderson’s students,” the release said. “When considering taxpayer dollars for the district or generous donations supporting HISD’s many fine booster clubs, financial trust and transparency are paramount.” Chairman of the HISD Board of Trustees Adam Duey said, “When that trust is eroded, either through irresponsible actions or a lack of accountability, we risk losing sight of what is most important: doing what’s best for kids.” Orr was booked into Rusk County Jail on Feb. 2 and posted $10,000 bond the same day. 1

Have no clue who any of the board members are but very very surprised that any sitting board member would make a comment about this.

EnjoyLife
Hard to believe a program that went 92-37 with a state championship between 2010-2019 could apparently fall so far so fast. Hard to feel optimistic right now.
