Stoney's 2023 Dallas Cowboys Mock Draft

Recommended Posts

I debated wether or not to do one of these this year. I couldn't let my one single fan down so here we go. This will look a little different this year.

QB- There's been a lot of smoke from Dallas that they want to draft a QB. Dallas has drafted one (Ben DiNucci) under McCarthy. These are the QBs that Dallas has had any type of visit with during the scouting process. All older QBs with at least multiple years as starters.

Clayton Tune Houston

Max Duggan TCU

Logan Bonner Utah State

Aidan O'Connell Purdue

Lindsey Scott UIW

RB- Tony Pollard had a breakout season. Zeke Elliott's time in Dallas finally ran out. Ronald Jones signed as a FA but that shouldn't stop Dallas from looking at RB. Dallas has looked at multiple RBs. Power backs and the modern day scat backs. If they want some thunder to pair with Pollard Evans, Miller, Johnson and Bigsby can supply that. If they want a Pollard2.0 Spears, Achane, Abanikandi, Gray could be your guy.

Zach Evans Ole Miss

Kendre Miller TCU

Tyjae Spears Tulane

Devon Achane Texas A&M

Roschon Johnson Texas

Israel Abanikandi Pitt

Tank Bigsby Auburn

Eric Gray Oklahoma

WR- The trade for Brandin Cooks has shifted how big of a need WR is. Throw in the possibility of a healthy Michael Gallup and the hope Jalen Tolbert makes a huge leap in his 2nd year. The first thing that Stoney notices is smaller WRs with speed and route running skills. McCarthy had success with Randall Cobb in the slot and Jordy Nelson/James Jones taking the top off the defense.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba Ohio State

Quentin Johnson TCU

Zay Flowers Boston College

Jalin Hyatt Tennessee

Josh Downs North Carolina

Rashee Rice SMU

Jonathon Mingo Ole Miss

Marvin Mims Oklahoma

Malik Knowles Kansas State

Keilahn Harris Oklahoma Baptist

Tank Dell Houston

TE- Another position that has had a lot of smoke around Dallas this off-season. Dalton Schultz left but two two young TEs in Ferguson/Hendershot remain. Would Dallas look for an upgrade so soon?

Darnell Washington Georgia

Cameron Latu Alabama

Brayden Willis Oklahoma

Payne Durham Purdue

Michael Mayer Notre Dame

Dalton Kincaid Utah

Luke Schoonmaker Michigan

OT- A position that looks good on paper but don't stare too hard at it or you will start seeing the warts. Tyler Smith should be the LT. Terrence Steele should be RT. Tyron Smith should be the swing. Waletzko/Ball competing for roster spot.

Connor Galvin Baylor

Ryan Hayes Michigan

OG- Zack Martin still has RG locked down. Connor McGovern left in free agency. Chuma Edoga is a backup.

Steve Avila TCU

Mark Evans Arkansas Pine Bluff

Antonio Mafi UCLA

Ilm Manning Hawaii

Alan Ali TCU

TJ Bass Oregon

Anthony Bradford LSU

Tyler Steen Alabama

C- Tyler Biadasz has turned into a Pro Bowl center.

Juice Scruggs Penn State

DT- Dallas lost Carlos Watkins but brought back Jonathon Hankins. 1T could be a need but not one Dallas values before Day 3. Dallas could use some more juice at 3T.

Jaquelin Roy LSU

Tyler Lacy Oklahoma State

Calvin Avery Illinois

DE- Tank Lawrence, Sam Williams, Dante Fowler, Dorance Armstrong are all back but you can never have enough pass rush.

Will McDonald Iowa State

Vilaimi Fehoko San Jose State

Felix Anudike- Uzomah Kansas State

BJ Thompson SFA

Durell Johnson Liberty

LB- Micah Parsons is more pas rusher than LB at this point. LVE got an extension. Damone Clark showed potential. Cox, Harper are nothing more than STers. LB is one of those positions you can always draft one every year.

Drew Sanders Arkansas

Trenton Simpson Clemson

Demarvion Overshown Texas

Dee Winters TCU

Jimmy Phillips SMU

CB- It's been Trevon Diggs and a rotating cast opposite him. The Stephen Gilmore trade continues that. Jourdan Lewis/Anthony Brown are replaceable vets. Daron Bland showed flashes. It's a position Dallas can address now or have to address next year.

Emmanuel Forbes Mississippi State

Tyrique Stevenson Miami FL

Tre'vius Hodges-Tomlinson TCU

Eric Scott Southern Miss

Alex Austin Oregon State

Julius Brent Kansas State

S- Donovan Wilson got extended. Malik Hooker and Jayron Kearse only have 1 year left on deals. Markquese Bell and Tyler Coyle could be something. Safety could be a sneaky peak.

Marte Mapu Sacramento State

Tanner McCalister Ohio State

Brian Branch Alabama

JL Skinner Boise State

ST- Kavonte Turpin was a Pro Bowler but Dallas has had visits with return specialists. There's been some rumors floated that how the draft plays out will affect if Dallas signs a veteran kicker or not.

Stoney's 2023 Dallas Cowboys Mock Draft

1.26 Michael Mayer TE Notre Dame

There's a lot of moving parts to get to this part of the draft. Michael Mayer if he winds up here would give Dallas the most complete TE since Jason Witten's prime. Not a freak athlete. Pretty good at everything but not outstanding at anything. Keep an eye on Will McDonald the Iowa State edge, Darnell Washington the Georgia TE, Drew Sanders Arkansas LB and Quentin Johnson TCU WR. If Mayer is off the board those could be in play. If there's a trade back watch for Steve Avila TCU OG.

2.58 Zack Charbonnet RB UCLA

Will Dallas go RB this early or not? That's a huge question. I like the value of RB later on day 2, early day 3 but with a RB like Charbonnet they get the 3rd best RB in the class. Not a burner. Bigger back who can catch. Should slide easily into Zeke's role. Keep an eye on Josh Downs North Carolina WR, Steve Avila TCU OG, Tyrique Stevenson Miami FL CB. If Dallas skips OG at 1.26 watch for a trade up or if Dallas passes on TE and one of the big 3 (Kincaid, Mayer, Washington) slide.

3.90 Anthony Bradford OG LSU

Dallas has been scouting big, run grader big maulers at guard this draft. If Dallas chooses to pass on guard the first 2 rounds Anthony Bradford could be a good value pick. Quick with a 1.66 10 yard split. Can hold his own in pass protection and nasty in run blocking. Keep an eye on Chandler Zavalla NC State OG, Marte Mapu Sacramento State S, Cory Trice Purdue CB, Marvin Mims Oklahoma WR.

4.129 Demarvion Overshown LB Texas

Dallas gets a former safety turned LB whose athleticism should help get snaps on defense and on special teams. Can cover a TE, can bring some pass rush off the edge. Could turn into a Parsons lite type player under Dan Quinn. Keep an eye on Jaquelin Roy LSU DT, JL Skinner Boise State S, Xavier Hutchinson Iowa State WR.

5.176 Clayton Tune QB Houston

Dallas gets their developmental QB, future backup QB. Tune started 44 games, threw 1,498 passes for 104/41 TD/int ratio. Older QB prospect (24 years old) with arm that's more accurate than a rocket and nimble enough to get around the pocket. Keep an eye on Aidan O'Connell Purdue QB, Anthony Johnson Iowa State S, Rakim Jarrett Maryland WR, Viliami Fehoko San Jose State DE, Antonio Mafi UCLA OG.

6.212 Anthony Johnson S Iowa State

Kid is a former CB turned safety who's just starting to tap his potential. The ball skills of a corner but with thumping skills of a safety. Would be a nice developmental safety to sit and learn from Malik Hooker and Jayron Kearse. Keep an eye on Malik Knowles Kansas State WR, Calvin Avery DT Illinois, BJ Thompson SFA DE.

7. 244 Calvin Avery DT Illinois

6-1 345lbs of run stopper. Kid does the dirty work for his LBs but also has the motor to more than hold his own inside. It will be nice to pair him with a vet like Hankins. Keep an eye on Durrell Johnson Liberty DE, Jimmy Phillips LB SMU, Connor Galvin Baylor OT.

1.26 Michael Mayer Notre Dame TE

2.58 Zack Charbonett UCLA RB

3.90 Anthony Bradford LSU OG

4.129 Demarvion Overshown Texas LB

5.176 Clayton Tune Houston QB

6.212 Anthony Johnson Iowa State S

7. 244 Calvin Avery Illinois DT

I really hope Dallas gets Robinson but I think he doesn’t make it pass 8 with the Falcons.

If I did a full mock, Bijan to Atlanta would be a good fit.

@Stoney did you ever have this guy down at any point? Lol and Mayer was still available.  Jerry Jones folks.

I honestly didn't think Dallas would draft a 1T in the 1st round. They spent day 3 picks on Bohanna and Ridgeway. They drafted Trysten Hill in the 2nd but he was a 3T. With Nolan Smith and Joey Porter dropping, I was starting to get that vibe if Dallas pivoted away from TE but didn't see DT coming. 2nd round will be fun to watch tomorrow night. Dallas has needs at LG, RB, LB, CB.
