I dont know how many wins (3?4?) but at least I feel like we have a coaching staff that will give the kids a fighting chance to be successful.

Honestly that is probably the expectation. 5-5 if they mess around and upset someone. Palestine, Jax, and Athens are vital if the Lions want to make the playoffs.

In Non district LE and Hallsville are the wins if you take care of business.

I expect the lions to be big underdogs in Whitehouse, Marshall.

Kilgore is definitely a contender for the district championship but I think CH will just have too much firepower. Lindale could throw a monkey wrench into things with an upset win over either of them. Henderson does have a chance to grab the last playoff spot but I expect the Lions to be pretty inconsistent this season.

I think some people have forgotten what Chapel Hill has going on over there. They have Demetrius Brisbon, Ricky Stewart, Jayvin Mayfield, Trevor Brooks and a whole bunch of other guys who went 5 rounds deep in the playoffs 2 years in a row. They were 3 points away from playing for a state championship with a bunch of freshmen 2 years ago. To think they're not going to be an absolute monster would be naive at best.

9 returning starters on offense and 6 on defense and those boys are hungry.

After seeing the Eagles first scrimmage I think there are some kinks to work out. Defense looked improved to me overall. The offensive line is obviously not the same after losing 4 starters. The LT is really good and the others seem like they're going to take some time to come along.

Seemed like a few big time starters didn't play much. Not sure why...maybe to try and preserve them? Can't wait to see how Lindale looks in live action against Kaufman to really have something to go off of.

I kind of look at this year like this: with 9O & 6D returning and the star power CHill has in players like brisbone and Stewart, the trophy is CHill’s to lose. It’s definitely not a lock and I think both Lindale And Kilgore have a chance to pull an upset in district and then both CS and Boerne will have a say in whether they raise the trophy or not. 2 big factors are health and defense. CHill is gonna score points. May average over 50 in the regular season. But how will that defense come along? If they stay healthy and the defense matures quickly and CHill can play mistake free and focus. They will be very close to impossible to beat. But these are high school kids, so you never know. Putting those things together is hard, especially as the season wears on. The factor that never gets discussed with most fans the year we went to state, is how healthy we stayed. We had all our starters all year for the most part. And played pretty much 100% healthy through all 6 playoff games. We all know if Jenkins goes down in playoffs we’re done. Same holds true for CHill, lose brisbone in 2nd round, it’s probably the end. That’s just how it works in TXHSF. But it’s not talked about enough. Health is critical. CHill has the talent. IMHO, they’re the most loaded team in 4A-D1, but they have to put the other things together too. It’s very challenging.

I agree there are definitely things to work on. There were some bright spots and some not so bright spots. One key thing in that scrimmage was the fact we didn’t run our qb and he is one of our best players. Of course it being a scrimmage they didn’t want him to get hurt but that would have made a big difference in the outcome. That being said his passes were pretty inconsistent. All things considered it was the first scrimmage of the year so I’m not too worried

Dont you wish that evil on me Ricky Bobby, these boys worked hard all summer together to be ready for the season and stay healthy

L v WH was pretty even. Lindale did some good things but has a lot to work on before district starts.

agree with this 100%, there is work to do - no doubt.

Well I would say the coaches for both PG and Kilgore saw some promising signs of what could come if both teams can manage to dodge the injury bug through the season. Both Defenses looked good which is a plus for both teams especially this early in the season. PG has some Dudes over there and D-1 talent all over the field. In the 2 live qtrs if it would have been an actual game PG would have been ahead at HT 13-7. Both offenses just need easy fixin things which is just reps so they can gel together and the turnover bug.

Yes verbally.....I bet that changes once he gets really recruited by the big time programs

Aren't both Brisbon and Stewart Verbals to SMU? That is surprising. Maybe just wanting to stay close to home early on in the recruiting process? As they get older, they'll be more comfortable going farther way?

Henderson @ Nac

27-3 after live half . Encouraging but still early for Henderson.

Nac look pretty rough? New coach and completely new system. I've always been surprised how bad Nac is. There is definitely talent in Nac.

You basically described Henderson as well.

Henderson should be fine as time goes on. But, nobody ever said who was 27 and who was 3 in the scrimmage?

Hendo was 27. However, you can’t a whole lot from a scrimmage. Lot of vanilla stuff and evaluation going on. After going 1-9 I will take any positivity.

There was loads of talent on the field last night for both teams..... and a little bit of fumbleitis as well. Plenty of time to work that out. I was happy to see that Kilgore has 3 very capable running backs this year to shoulder the load. Really nice to see Hardy have some good carries.... I've always thought he had the potential to be an elite running back.

Pleasant Grove has some studs. That right guard looked like he could start for an SEC school right now and the speed at the skill positions was crazy good.... along with a humongous H-back/slot receiver. I could definitely see PG being in the hunt for another state title this season.

They're actually catching Carthage at the right year. Sophomore QB starting his 1st season won't be the easiest thing to overcome for the Bulldogs. I know he's the coaches son, but he's still a sophomore. But if anyone can do it, it's Surrat and Carthage!

That Center team we scrimmaged last week ain't no slouch either. I could see them giving Carthage a game if they catch a few breaks. But we all know that's easier said than done. I'll know a lot more about Carthage in about 7 days.

Young Surratt has been watching film since he was 10 years old, has been sitting in the film room and learning with the Dawg variety QB’s since the eighth grade. He will be a coach on the field. He also threw 46 touchdowns as a freshman and two more in the playoffs with the varsity. I promise he will not be your typical first time starter on the varsity.

Yep he probably gets drafted #1 after he leads Alabama or Lsu to the National Championship. I believe he is that good.
