Okay, a few quick painful observations:

1) This game should have been remembered for what it was:  a tough, hard nosed, defensive slugfest.  Gilmer recovers an onside kick with less than 2 minutes left and needs 1 first down to put the game away.  But they can’t do it.  Now, I’m all about imposing your will on another team.  Getting 4 yards a carry to put a game away is fine by me.  But Gilmer ran the same play 3 straight times and averaged 2 yards a carry.  So what do they do on 4th and 4?  Run the same straight play.  Who knows, maybe if they fake it to the RB and had the QB run, it ends the same way.  Maybe Kilgore D stops whatever Gilmer runs. But a first down ends the game at 17-14.  I just wish there had been something else tried.

2) Tate didn’t play for Gilmer due to concussion, but it did give other Gilmer receivers a chance to step up.  Webb and Noble played absolutely great.  This will help Gilmer in the long run.

3) I’ve never been a fan of the fake cramp.  A Kilgore player so OBVIOUSLY did it on the TD drive that put Kilgore ahead.  You could watch him running down the field, and as soon as the Kilgore receiver caught the ball inbounds, he falls to the ground grabbing his leg.  2 plays later, he’s back in the game.

4) Both teams should have learned that they are more explosive than they thought.  When they opened up the passing game, both teams played better.

For Kilgore, this should be a HUGE confidence booster.  I’m not sure they can hang with Chapel Hill, but they know they can play with anyone, so it should be a great game.

For GIlmer, this could go either way.  They could be furious they lost a game they feel they could have one, and commit to working even harder.  Or, a loss like this could totally deflate them.  I think the coaching staff is going to really have to coach them up this week.

Officials blew call early in second. That was clearly a Kilgore TD

Yes it was. But, I'm not so sure that our guy was down before the ball came out on that last kickoff return. I'd say they probably cancel out.

Two best things you can learn from in these pre-district games is 1.) what needs work and 2.) how your team responds when their back is against the wall. Both of these teams clearly have things that they need to work on, but neither one of them is going to go down without landing a few haymakers.

Kilgore nails a FG with 12 second to go up by 1!  Incredible game!

The last 3 minutes of this game was just absolutely nuts. Heck, the last 12 seconds of this game was nuts. So we kick the FG to go up by 1 and leave 8.9 seconds on the clock (for those who weren't able to watch). So we kick it deep and cover it pretty well, but Gilmer has dudes that can fly..... and the KR zigzags across the field twice and he's deep in Kilgore territory with a lead blocker 5 yards in front of him..... the only bulldog within 20 yards of him is the Kilgore kicker. Our kicker cuts the legs of the lead blocker, causing the KR to pause long enough for the cavalry to arrive and end it. If our kicker tries to avoid that block, Gilmer beats us on a 95 yd kickoff return with 0.0 seconds on the clock.

I’m glad I switched it over to watch.  It was all you described and more after being a defensive slugfest most of the game.  But man those Gilmer radio announcers are just miserable to listen to.  They are the most unprofessional announcers I have ever heard.  They just cannot compliment the opposing team, and they always bash the officials in a close game.

Kilgore usually has a pretty good youtube stream with no audio.... but I couldn't find last night's game and the Carthage game is gone as well. Don't know what's going on with that.

The pic below shows our kicker laid out on the ground and the lead blocker with his helmet off..... and the cavalry arrived.

The whole show is embarrassing.  If Gilmer loses to Paris, them dudes are going to have some sort of medical emergency.
