Ford Stadium at SMU to open the season, following Bivins Caraway’s season ending injury at quarterback. Longview’s lone touchdown came on a Hail Mary on the final play of the game.
In 2017, Keilyn Williams returned the opening kickoff of the season 98 yards to get the ball going as Longview rolled to a 35-16 victory behind a dominating second half. Sophomore quarterback Haynes King registered his first ever passing touchdown on his first ever pass attempt thanks to a 48-yard pass to Kamden Perry in the fourth quarter.

Just want the Mavs to continue to show improvement before district. Another physical Defense that will help us work out our kinks in the running game. If we can get the running game clicking, look out. I think our passing game showed promise for being a first game. Definitely won't be a one dimensional rushing offense this season.

I'm taking John King and The Lobos in this one I hate that they lost the season opener in heartbreaking fashion in McKinney on Thursday Night, Longview will bounce back and get back on track this is a heated rivalry that days back a 100 something years or more so expect the Lobos to come out Friday night in pissed off mode, Because they know they left a lot of points on the field Thursday night they had three costly mistakes that cost them the game a snap over the punters head to give McKinney good field  position and  had  2  fumbles,1   one  put the nail in the coffin with minute and 26 seconds left on the clock to end  the game but I expect King have them boys ready to play at their  Hated Ach Rivals Marshall on Friday night at 7:30 Maverick Stadium.

Careful mentioning this.

I mean, anyone who watched last Thursday knows Longview easily and probably should've won the game. Is what it is. Lots of work to do, and we'll be more than fine. Every single thing that happened Thursday is more than correctable.

The false starts drive me up a freaking wall, but even those are correctable.

Are you so sure they(false starts) are correctable? Atleast 3 years and running now...

Longview prolly has 150 false starts since '20 season

🤣

King's own words after the loss "self inflicted gun shot wounds".

The Head Coach is saying this but some on smoaky do not believe that a team can beat themselves. Happens all the time.

Bro, it bothers me so much.

2020-present has been absolutely awful pre snap penalty wise. I'm not sure if these boys aren't remembering snap counts or if the QB cadence is off but....goodness. Sometimes it's hard to fix something that should be so easy.

It's gotten to a point where I expect at least 5 pre snap penalties a game.

Definitely.

That said, a lot of “fixable” issues never got corrected last season. We had procedure penalties a lot throughout the the season. Before I rest easy about the self-inflicted stuff, I want to see it stop, you know?
