LetsGoEagles
Melissa's dominance? Nac's turn around? Chill's offense hitting on all cylinders game 1, like it's week 9? EagleBorn's massive jelly of the DoD actually increasing? Henderson playing much better? Gilmer starting 0-2? d0tc0m
Biggest surprise for me through two weeks has been Argyle's hard fall from the top tier. Granted, the Eagles have played some really really good teams so far, but neither of those games has been remotely close or competitive. Maybe it's an actual (albeit rare) rebuilding year for Argyle, who typically just reloads. But the Eagles are going to need to take some BIG leaps to be competitive this season. And that in and of itself is pretty surprising, because Argyle has been so steady and consistent since about 2010.

Granted they’re better performing and have a lot of heart. Lions have a difficult stretch. Marshall and Whitehouse. District they must overcome Lindale and maybe Kilgore to consider them back. Palestine, Jax , Athens are definitely must wins.

No knock on Pg they’re outstanding but Gilmer been a thorn in their side. No shame in losing to a quality opposition like Pg either.

I agree with you, but you could definitely see that they are gradually falling or equalizing to everyone else in Class 5A competition in all sports. At some point they were going to hit a wall. Their girls basketball team got bounced in the 2nd round of the playoffs against Northwest last season. I am not surprised that the boys are now starting to struggle. They were in 4A for entirely too long and now they are where they belong. Being in Class 4A and below is easy to win and compete against when you are getting all of the move-ins that they get year in and year out. Now, let's see if they can start getting multiple D1 athletes, cause now that is what it is going to take to be dominant again for the Red Eagles. I'm not saying you're wrong, but that seems like a drastic, dramatic stance after two games. Girls athletics aside, Argyle finished runner up in baseball last season in a nail-biter title game. On the gridiron, the Eagles lost by 8 to eventual state champion SOC in the semifinals in 2022. So, being a state title contender at the 5A level is now not a foreign thing to the Eagles. I think what moving up does to them -- and perhaps this is the point you were trying to make -- is it magnifies those "rebuilding" years. Wherein at the 4A level, maybe those rebuilding years were more "reloading" years, because the state-wide competition level wasn't quite as high. So maybe Argyle won't live in the top 10 each and every year like they did at the 4A (and old 3A) levels since 2010. But based on past program success, I'd say Argyle still has more "top tier" seasons than not across the next 5-7 years. regaleagle
Argyle has a mixed team of sophs, juniors, and seniors this season starting on both sides of the ball. They have some seniors out with injuries that would be starting. So in the long run, this team will be competitive come playoff time. They do have a really good throwing QB and a nice set of wideouts with speed that are proven. The O-line is plenty big and will mesh. The D-line is a problem so far....but they will work in the right guys and some seasoning on defense needs to occur with maybe 5 sophs on that side of the ball.....due to some injuries. It's not as bleak as it may look. Melissa is an absolute loaded monster, and Lovejoy has plenty of D-1's also......both are simply more seasoned early on than Argyle this year. regaleagle
You must remember that Argyle has exceptionally high participation rates in ALL UIL activities for a school with its enrollment.....which is bottom tier 5A-D2. Many, many of Argyle's athletes and participants in UIL events are multi-sports and multi-other participants. Argyle really doesn't have "specialists" like some of the other schools in its classification. The Lone Star Cup in 11 straight years is no fluke....esp. the very first time for any school moving up a classification. Argyle ain't goin' nowhere downhill.....I can guarantee you that much. They are competitive for many reasons, and have built their winning traditions. Edited September 9 by regaleagle
regaleagle
How many teams in Texas High School football have a 54-game home winning streak, Huh? And that includes very tough scheduling along the way in that time. Lovejoy just broke the streak.....it was bound to happen sooner or later. The last home loss occurred against Abilene Wylie in 2012 back in the old 3A. That year Wylie was undefeated(12-0) until they lost to Stephenville in the semis. So that was the last time Argyle lost at home until last week against a more experienced and loaded Lovejoy team. The Argyle coaches knew this season would be one that would require some time for the players to "evolve".....and it looks like they are correct. But there is talent....it just needs some games playing together. Tonight's floater and one-quarter game did not help things for the Eagles. It's unfortunate but that's the way the cookie crumbles. Not to discount all your points but you have not lived here for quite some time. There has been a definite shift in the culture at Argyle and the way it used to be is over. It is no longer kids playing together since kindergarten depending on each other for friendship and unification as a whole community.

Coach Rab
In my area (Ft. Worth) I believe Benbrook (4A) starting 3-0 with wins over 3 teams that beat them last year is impressive. They have a stout DL and nice Soph RB who is like 6’4 240 lbs. They will likely be 5-0 before they are tested again

Ijustwatch
I knew it was going to be bad but I'm pretty sure EF has exceeded my expectations. They are terrible and its not going to get any better. I don;t know the Head Coach personally but it's time to move on and try something new. I know most people didn't like Ford but we were good every year. Fun to watch. This is Ridiculous
