Carthage enters the game (3-0)  with a gritty win over a very good Kilgore team and cruising to wins over Pittsburg and Cornerstone Christian.

Marshall enters (1-2) with a gut-wrenching 5OT loss to Tyler (3-0) and a blowout loss to Longview (2-1).  They recorded their first win Friday over Henderson.

Carthage has won three in a row since the series was resurrected in 2018. That game was a bar burner with the Bulldogs winning 35-32.

The last two games have been all Carthage in 2019 and 2022. Both games dominated by the Bulldogs.

I am not sure how many starters are out but I think a bunch.
I have no idea how this game will turn out. I just want my Dawgs to get healthy.
The Dawgs will play physical and hard and Marshall has been battle tested.
I truly don’t know how this game will go.
Dawgs by 1.
Let’s Go Dawgs !!!!!

God Bless Coaches, Players, and Fans.

Marshall has very little chance every year against Longview mainly because of difference in enrollment/players to choose from……Bigger percentage difference between Carthage/Marshall than Longview/Marshall………Carthage should have very little chance of winning.

I would agree with you on this in MOST cases.  But Carthage is a different animal.  They are not a typical 4A Div II school.

They don’t have a typical 4A Div II roster.

If you had any doubt… look no further than that win they had over Crosby…. Who is a 5A Div I school.   A state semi finalist no less.

That 2018 Marshall team they beat advanced to the region semifinals.

There are multiple factors as to why and how… but Carthage is just built different than 99% of schools their size.

With the roster they have……and the coaching… they would be competitive in almost every single 5A district in the state… Div I and Div II.

This will unfortunately be last game between these 2 teams for awhile

I agree. That’s unfortunate.

This could be our new Longview-type rival allowing us to end that series.

Before the injuries, this was the one game that concerned me for this young Dawgs team. Hopefully the Dawgs find a way to get it done though.

I vote to keep it going,  regardless who get's the W's & L's.  That first game in 2018 was really fun and had great atmosphere.  I figure this matchup benefits both teams.  Just my .02

‘Bout time people began understanding and admitting this.

As for this week’s game against Marshall, we are super banged up.

I picked Carthage to win in a close game, because we may not want to risk any additional injuries to key players.

Agree 100%.

I have a feeling we will see Carthage and Longview off the schedule going forward.

Probably going to go after some DFW 5A Div II teams.  Maybe some Centex.  I know Alvarez has connections from Ennis, Round Rock (?), and Cuero days.

I like the local rivalries because of the bigger crowds/atmosphere

Carthage vs Marshall makes way more sense than Longview vs Marshall.

The scoreboard says otherwise lmao.

They are likely both ending for different reasons.

If I had my druthers..... I'd say replace them with local teams that would likely produce competitive games annually... like Tyler, Kilgore, Shreveport Byrd, Bossire Parkway.  Maybe see our series with the Monroe schools renewed.

But I have a feeling its going to be more like Ennis, Corsicana, Waco..... could be wrong.

I’d bet a $1 that the Mavs vs Dawgs game this year will be far more competitive than the Mavs vs Lobos game.

You thinking Little B runs the play clock down below 5 every offensive play to keep from getting beat by 41 ?

Likely not LOL.  Carthage isn’t Carthage yet this year, but Longview is Longview already.  Assuming the Carthage injuries previously mentioned, and another two weeks for Marshall to make adjustments, I just expect it to be a more competitive game.  And I’m willing to put my money on the line!  😂

Good Lord I hope so.

Sitting through a beating like that once a season is ENOUGH.

Doing it twice in a season is just....UGHHHH.

Marshall and Carthage need it to be like the 2018 game, regardless of the winner.

I always thought it would be like that game...but that simply didn't happen.

2019 was a cluster with our three year starting QB getting suspended after the Legacy game.  He quit the team after that.  We pulled our offense together without him by the time district started.....but finding a new QB/offense Vs the likes of Longview and Carthage is not the time to be experimenting with your most important position.  I was ugly there for a few weeks.

2020 and 2021 were COVID and we played McKinney North in the place of Carthage because of scheduling issues caused by different starting weeks between 4A and 5A teams.  Strangely we were (2-0) Vs McNorth in spite of them being much bigger AND a playoff team in 5A Div I.

Last season was just a disaster..... team was still learning the Wing-T offense.  It worked well against struggling Tyler and Henderson....but it was completely shut down by Longview and Carthage.  Just ugly ugly ugly.  Luckily...just like in 2019....we found our groove and took off last season after the Bulldog beat down.

I honestly don't know what to expect this season...... I just want a competitive game.
