just want to get some thoughts who in your opinion was your school's best quarterback ?

Nac's has to be  Karl Chatman QB of the 1992 playoff team.

Seems like I remember a pretty good QB Nac had back in the early 70s named Joe Samford .... played WR / TE for the Texas Longhorns ....

Killing it at Georgia Tech currently. Leads the ACC in passing. Glad he got out of that mess in College Station.

Haynes is the goat.

Nothing against Haynes in the post high school comment.

But we do have a national title winning QB in our vault lol.

White Oak has had a few

Jerry Davis never lost a game at white oak once he started and was the QB during the 57 and 58 team.

Mike Barber was qb but then went to the oilers and rams as a TE.

Dylan gale holds career passing record and played some college ball I believe.

Heath Hood would’ve broke all of gales records but had gotten injured. He just finished playing baseball at la Lafayette

Longview had a QB in 87 and 88 Michael Bobo. Went to Dartmoth in the Ivy League. Played receiver there.

Heck of a player

stayed in the Boston area after college  His son was a stud receiver there and signed with Duke then transfered to UCLA  for his final season. Now a rookie with the Seattle Seahawks  Scored his first TD yesterday against Carolina

Ky Horton

two undefeated seasons and two state Championships for Carthage.

Was Kai the best QB Carthage had or was he on the best team...

Possibly both. He was very good. Had the size and arm talent to go along with being able to master the offense.

Nac had another good one that played QB for I believe Dartmouth back in the 70s ...

Could also make arguments for David East in the early 60s (started at Tulane, the same school Kai Horton now plays for), Audrey McMillian in the late 70s (QB & DB at UH, All-Pro DB for Houston Oilers & Minnesota Vikings), Joey Blissett in 90 & 91 (24-2 at CHS), Anthony Morgan in 2008-2010 (started on 3 state championship teams, was QB on 2 of them), Blake Bogenschutz in 2011-2013 (3-year starter, one year for a state-semifinalist and one year for a state champion, was a starter and team captain at UTSA as a redshirt freshman before having to give up the sport due to concussions), and Connor Cuff, last year’s star (currently playing baseball for the Ragin’ Cajuns in Lafayette, LA).

Haynes is the goat.

After him, I'd go Aaron Johnson, Joel Armstrong, Bivins Caraway and Pete Robertson in that order.

How about James Street in the 60s (starting QB for the national champion Texas  Longhorns under Darrell Royal) or Jeb Blount in the early 70s (played at Tulsa and in the NFL)?

Tracy Mitchell, 90-91. A true dual threat QB. Regularly threw for 300 yards per game. Kids from Joaquin today don’t believe me when I tell them about it.

Whose the best since 2000?

Joe played TE as a sophomore and junior. QB those years was Larry Brown, who played at Arkansas.

A lot of these younger guys on here don't remember or have never heard of some really good older players from their schools ....

I felt the same with my choice. I went with the one that was 42-4 all time as a starter

That’s a good question. Justin Samford had the most wins, Chad Lawrence was really exciting to watch, Cole Leflett was probably the toughest football player I ever saw and took us to the state semifinals, and Will Vaughn had a little bit of everything.

Yeah Street is up there.

We're about to see some shuffling on that QB list the next few years.

You are possibly right, he had an Oline that averaged 308 pounds, (unheard of at the 4A level) Dixon and Williams at receiver and in my opinion Courtney at running back was one of the best Carthage has had. Always gained positive yardage and never got hurt. Rushed for over 200 yards in both state championships.
plus that 2020 defense was nasty.
your right now that I think about it. Both those teams were special.

Marshall

Old Timer YA Tittle LSU-49ers-NY Giants NFL Hall of Fame

modern era

Benny Valentine 1988 Undefeated (lost to Dallas Carter in the quarter finals 22-18 , Jessie Armstead scored with :17 left. Carter had to forfeit their entire season and that left Marshall the only undefeated team in 5A football . Marshall would have played Odessa Permian the next week in the Semi Finals and Marshall had already beated Permian earlier in the season. Converse Judson was awarded the title even though they were trounced by Carter in the title game. Marshall would have won the title if Carter would have be not allowed to play in the playoffs to begin with as the rules stated. Marshall got their revenge on Judson in 1990 beating them for the title in the Astrodome) Valentine went on to play at Tulane and then reunited with Dennis Parker at UNT and played QB

Chad Fox- 1990 State Championship-Juco and UNT briefly

Honorable Mention

Darius Jones-Baylor played DB

Wayne Nichols-Houston played DB

Allen Survia- Texas-Taft College- Raiders played DB

Those all deserve to be there......missed a few IMHO.....

I think Justin Hart owns just about every passing record you can have for Marshall.  He was a four year starter and would have had even more if it weren't for getting a separated shoulder that ended his season a few weeks before the playoffs started.  He had right at...or just over 5000 yards passing.

Austin Christmas probably owned most of them prior to Hart.  Hart was in the playoffs 3 of his 4 seasons.  Christmas never made the playoffs.  Always seemed to miss by 1 game or so.

Paul Todd seems like was the QB in 1996 I think...which statistically was one of the most explosive offensive teams in Marshall history.  Todd to David Aaron gave us the district championship over JT that year in front of a sold out Rose Stadium.

ohhhh...you're right.  I had forgotten that little tidbit.

Nothing will ever come close to that old district.

Every game.  Every week.  Every stadium packed.

Was it 1998 that there were 4 of us ranked at the same time?  Longview was like #1 in the AP poll.  I think Marshall was #1 in the Harris poll.  Lufkin was ranked.  JT was ranked.

Last night of the season...... Longview got eliminated.  Marshall lost to Lufkin, but could still get in depending on the Lee-JT game (which was on Saturday).  I think Lee upset JT, which eliminated Marshall.

So Longview and Marshall....both of which had been #1 in the state....both sat at home.

Lufkin, Lee, and JT went to the playoffs.

I remember going down to see LP play Lake Highlands at SFA and the Panthers lost on a missed FG at the end of the game.  David Demby?  I can't remember his name.  Was a good guy.  I was friends with him on the old East Texas Supersite.  Wonder what happened with him.

But I remember..... you could count on Lobo, Maverick, Rose, and Abe being packed out week after week.  Even Nac got into the groove a time or two.
