Is there any team in 3A D-2 that has any shot of beating Gunter this year?

Canadian has a shot. Not saying we will, but I like our chances better than anyone else.  It’s funny, I don’t care what wrinkles either team throws out before this game. Once they play each other, the game shrinks and it turns into a chess match. Unfortunately, we have lost 4 of the 6x. Each team has had a blowout win, and all the other games have been very tight, and could have gone either way.

Last year's game was for the ages.  This year I think both teams are better.  No guarantees either of us gets there, but my money is on it.  And no, Gunter can't forget about Newton (not there yet).  Would like another shot at them.  So the answer is yes Canadian CAN be Gunter - they've done it twice before.  It would be a toss up game and won't be over til it's over.  Just opinions here - other teams we both have to get through before this happens......again.

I honestly don’t think anyone can beat Gunter in D2.

How good is Gunter?
Gunter played Brock and beat them 35-12. Brock played #2 Pleasant Grove, who is in 4A and only lost 10-7. PG is absolutely rolling right now and I understand it was the first game of the season. So, just how good is Gunter?

I would not read a lot into that, PG had a new QB and big changes to their offense this year. They are rolling now, but they struggled early in the year.

Anything can happen when you play one game. Canadian, Newton, Daingerfield, and Hooks are all talented teams and could make a run at Gunter.

I think from the list abover Canadian has the best shot followed by Newton.  Daingerfield and Hooks would both lose big to Gunter.  I think Canadian and Gunter are the 2 best teams in the state again, but I’m taking Gunter if they both make it again.

I’m uncomfortable basing “how good Gunter is” on a win over Brock this year. Or any early game really. I think those wins do support our ranking. Just watching these guys from day one though, I don’t believe that GT has really hit their stride yet. The machine is running much smoother than it was in those first few games but it needs a little more oiling. Like everyone else, GT will be a different team come playoffs. I hope that team is whole and healthy and gets another shot at Canadian.

Yes, there are teams that have a shot at beating Gunter this year I think.  The top 4 teams in the state look to be evenly matched - and each of the top 4 represent a different region in the state, so that's kind of interesting.  This state ranking is per Pigskin :

1 Gunter (6-0)

2 Canadian (6-0)

3 Newton (5-0)

4 Tidehaven (5-0)

These same 4 teams represent the top 4 in the state in margin of victory as well

1 Gunter 303-56 (Avg Game - 51-9) (Avg Margin - 42)

2 Tidehaven 211-7 (Avg Game - 42-1) (Avg Margin - 41)

3 Canadian 350-116 (Avg Game - 58-19) (Avg Margin - 39)

4 Newton 289-101 (Avg Game - 58-20) (Avg Margin - 38)

This is a tough final four if this is who makes it, and there's no guarantee any of them will be there.

Daingerfield would lose big to Gunter? It's all about the matchups, not the one common opponent (Gladewater). Can Gunter stop the Tiger offense and score at will on the Tiger defense? Explain!!!

Daingerfield has the athletes, there’s no doubt.  But I think Gunter’s offense would run non stop over Daingerfield.  I’m sure Daingerfield would break some big plays and score, but I don’t see any way that they could stay within 3-4 TD’s of Gunter.

Gunter is crazy good but every team a weakness somewhere. Teams all match up diffrently.  The top 6 teams all have a lot of talent.  All have a chance.  Not a good one aside from Canadian.  Time will tell who breaks out of region to the final 4.  At that point who knows.  The real competitors should all be getting better every day

I hear ya and respect your opinion, but disagree to an extent.  Gunter in my opinion would run the ball which would kill time on clock and ultimately lead to the downfall. Daingerfield is quick strike and will score in a minute. Gunter has to matchup athlete for athlete and I don't think they will. The biggest plus for them would be fundamentally sound defense,  but it only works to an extent. I think they would be successful running the ball, but not how you're obviously envisioning. Daingerfields 2 loses come from good teams. We are just 2 people discussing. Only playing the game tells the story. Agreed?

The 1st loss to #1 Timpson in 2A and 2nd from Center 4A(week 3-4). We lost our starting QB 1 day before first loss and he was unable to return for the Center game which was the 2nd loss. He was involved in a car wreck, but is fine now. (Gunter would likely be favorite in eyes of many). They could win, but a big loss as you stated just will not happen. If both teams continue to win, then we might just see.

I understand your stance and it’s very likely right.  I hope we get to see the game myself, but doubt we do.  I doubt you’ve seen Gunter in person this year, they are the fastest team they’ve ever put on the field.  Good luck to your Tigers and let’s hope for a match at Jerry’s World in December.
