You're just stirring the pot.  Give a link or I don't think you're being truthful.  Ain't nobody in their right mind would say something like this.  Gilmer has improved but they are not up to that level yet.  Somebody was drunk..., lol.

The guy doing the interview said something to the effect of - P G and Carthage have improved but Gilmer has improved a lot more….he likes Gilmer’s chances whoever they play in round 4.

Do you have a link to this "homer", or "football guru", saying a silly thing like this, or is it just hearsay.  Provide the link.  I'd like to know who this guy is.  To be honest, our defense has to have improved because we were absolutely terrible for the first six weeks.  There was absolutely no way but up as far as defense goes.  That's the only reason I can think of where someone might think something like that.  Center is the only team we're focused on right now, and they will definitely test us.  I have no idea how our game will go with them.  I'm hoping we have put the right people in the right places to get stops on a regular basis.  We will just have to wait and see.

And, also, any well coached team will improve more and more as the season progresses, barring injuries and such, and it's silly to think otherwise.  The amount of improvement is definitely subjective.

I have a question for Gilmer fans. There used to be a poster from Gilmer I think his name was An Old Buckeye. He would write a good long posts about Gilmer. Seemed pretty knowledgeable. I haven’t seen him post in like two years. Was wondering if he was still around or changed his screen name? Thanks

AOB is still alive. I see him at church.  But he gave up the Smoaky smack talk several years ago. He’s slowed down a lot these last few years.

If both teams play to the best of their abilities on offense and defense and nobody gets hurt and the refs don't get in the way, and turnovers aren't a factor, I think the Buckeyes win a high scoring game by a couple of touchdowns........something like:

Gilmer 63

Center 49

Something like that. And the scoreboard could easily go the other way in this one. I hope it doesn't but that is the facts.

If Gilmer or Center  turns the ball over, penalties, injuries, etc............. and get 2 or 3 scores behind, there is no coming back because the defenses are so bad.

I'll give Gilmer coaches a tiny bit of credit with moving some starters on offense to the defense also and playing them both ways. They had to do it. The old way of only playing one way in Gilmer simply could not succeed this season.

All things equal, Gilmer should win this in a high scoring affair. Just hope it's a good game, and the refs stay out of the way, and nobody from either team gets injured, no matter who wins.

Going to be fun. I'll be there Friday. Rain or Shine.

I haven’t noticed anybody obsessed with Gilmer.  We try to give you some respect because you have been a contender in years PAST.  We’re just interested in high school football and the playoffs and you guys advertise yourself more than most teams.

I'm thinking it's a toss up. Gilmer isn't the old Gilmer and Center can't stop Ned in the 5th grade on defense.. I'll go Center based off the fact they can score 50+ easily.

When y’all say we’re not the old Gilmer, yall act like we just have fallen completely off lol. If we played center schedule our defensive numbers would look way better. Look at the teams we have played compared to them

Oh I'm not discrediting yall at all. I think we got use to seeing greatness and now it's just a good team. Everybody remember the dynasty days. So that's what they'll always be compared to. Nothing against Gilmer. I'm sure when Surratt leaves with the next 20 years from Carthage people will say the same thing.

I mean technically no but yes. You see it all the time. Whenever a dynasty doesn't produce like they have years before people will say "falling off". Look at dynasties such as Alabama, Cowboys, early 2000s Miami, Mid 2000s Florida, Southlake Carroll just to name a few. When people see you in and out of championships for a span of time and then it's not the same results, it will be considered falling off. Even if they are top ranked, they will always be compared to the greats and be considered underachieved.

Ain't nobody obsessed with Gilmer.  But of course we are going to talk about this matchup.

We spend plenty of time talking about our team, but nobody talks back.

This is a big time matchup for East Texas, although I think Gilmer wins by a few scores.  But it's a good gage of where they are in comparison to Carthage.

We take nothing for granted.  Just like every other team in the playoffs, Carthage knows they have to go out and beat the next opponent in front of them.  Nobody is just going to roll over because they see that C on the side of the helmet.

I think Gilmer will make a run, and will most likely be playing in the regional finals.

I do agree that these teams are not at the level of the Gilmer teams that ran to the state finals several years in a row, but they are still a very dangerous team that has the talent and ability to beat pretty much anyone in 4AD2 on any given Friday.

Lol they’re Carthage fans who get championships like it collecting candy on Halloween.  This is a big time matchup  in 4a D2 and this is what the thread is about. Geez get some perspective.

But we are just removed from two state championships and would of been a 3rd if uil wouldn’t of had us playing Carthage in round 3.

More often than not. A decent defense will shut down a great offense.  Look at Kilgore vs Chapel Hill as an example: or Carthage vs center.
Center is clearly the underdog and will have to play some defense if they expect to move on.

Center has the big three at QB, RB, and receiver and a big O line. Gilmer makes two or three stops, they win by two to three scores. Provided they don’t turn the ball over. Turnovers and penalties would stop Gilmer.
Gilmer by 14.

I also think that Center has not performed up to their early season form since they Van loss.  The last few district games were not highly impressive.

I believe Gilmer is performing better, maybe the competition level was down, but Center's last two opponents weren't great either.

I kind of view this as two teams trending in different directions.
