You are assuming Carthage OT #50 can’t block #5 head up?  Or OT #71 with a back or TE support can’t get it done vs #5 or #18?  And maybe the reason Carthage hasn’t run the ball like year’s past is because they wanted to get the Soph QB more pass attempts to acclimate to the speed and pressure of varsity.  The Dawgs can and will run the ball with force when asked to.  Fri may be the coming out party.  And you do realize Matlock has been playing since District right?  He’s not 100% but has been a nice change of pace for Edwards.  Carthage also has a couple more backs that can shoulder the load of a heavy ground attack if needed.

He tweaked that hurt knee again last game don't know if he will be able to go this week or not

If PG does what they normally do defensively then Carthage will have to go to shorter choice routes, with that being said it depends if Carthage decides rather to double team #5 or not. They typically have him rush wide forcing QBs to step up and another guy is coming.

I just feel Carthage hasn’t run the ball effectively as they have in seasons passed, also it will be interesting to see how losing Matlock affects things. I know they did a lot without him. But you cannot deny the fact when he is in there have been a lot of big plays with him, through the air and on the ground.

Ask Kilgore about the effectiveness of Carthage’s run game this year.

The Dawgs ran 8 running backs against LE.
KJ Edwards just got an offer from Georgia to go with a long list of offers. Only a sophomore. Running game is just fine behind a very powerful O line.

I mean if we are being realistic here, that was against a very non existence run defense of LE.

Thats great for KJ, great humble kid and even better family. Just saying what I have seen thus far. Not saying it cannot happen. But so far it has been iffy.

I can give you that game 100%, and agree.

but also 1st game of the season.

Carthage could have run the ball every play in every game and still won by same margins barring injury.  But that does nothing for the Soph QB and his development.  The first 12 games were to get him prepared for the 1-2 games Carthage will need him to have a big game throwing the ball.

100% agree with developing him. Just saying when they have needed to run the ball it has not been like years past.

It is obvious what they have been doing and I would do the same.

Only time I have really seen them want to run the ball was 1st possession of second half of van game they came out and ran the ball every play for a td last year they didn't really run it all that great or much but then came out and pounded pg was actually the first game for them to show it

Very true. Talk about a physical game

I know Little B doesn’t want kids playing both ways, but if he wants another really good offensive lineman with size to block a few plays here and there, he has a defensive lineman that can.
And on the reverse side, he has two big offensive linemen that would be good to really good on defense that have not played defense in 2 years.

I was just told PG's Center, #59, is out for this game. I believe he went out 3rd quarter against Caddo Mills with a knee injury.

That’s a tough blow for PG (if true) since most have said the PG OL was one of the question marks coming into this game vs Carthage.  Will be interesting to see what adjustments are made.  Whoever gets the nod will be starring down a 300+ lb DT every snap.  😳

This is about as evenly matched as 2 teams can be. I think Carthage will win. Even if they go into overtime Carthage will win and here's why. They have since 2008 the 9 state titles wow factor. It has nothing to do with luck, horse shoes or voodoo dolls. They just find a way to win.

And he is quick as a cat and extremely strong.    If the center is out it’s gonna be trouble for the back up.

If Carthage uses 3 down lineman with a nose, the one that will play nose(probably) is not that quick, but is the strongest guy that will be on the field - Kilgore double teamed him a lot the last two years and I don’t think they ever moved him back…….The other 300+ that will probably be over the tackle is definitely quick.

And is a mismatch one on one vs a 190 lb OT.

exactly first game of the season where a lot of Carthage starts took their first varsity snaps. They have only improved every week.  You can go ahead and say you don't think Carthage is good enough. Many others have been brave enough to say it. LOL
