Sbk5280 Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 Great game and a battle till the end. Great night for this young team and a heck of an achievement for anyone. Everyone counted Gilmer out but they never lost their composier when they made mistakes. Kept grinding and eventually it paid off. Enjoy the night fellas and on to the next game. Go Buckeyes! 3
nacdragon07 Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 Wow well congrats to the buckeyes !!! Carthage will be back next season. They have nothing to be ashamed of.

Came home a pulled up Youtube to watch the game. Glad I did. It's a good one. You probably saw me. I was pretty much the lone Buckeye fan in there with an orange hoodie. Someone could have warned me I was walking into a Carthage reunion there!

Glen Rose will be tough....... and Bellville looks to be a monster. But for tonight, I'm gonna relish in a team that wasn't scared of the Big Bad Wolf. I am so proud of my Buckeyes Congratulations, y’all earned it!
36gut Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 I still can't believe what happened. When Carthage tied it up, I was certain they would go on and win in overtime. This feels like a fluke event. That's because Carthage has such a dynasty going. Gotta congratulate all the players and coaches on both sides. They'll remember this the rest of their lives. I know I will and I was a mere spectator.

I did not think we’d blow y’all out, but did think we’d win by double digits and our defense would control your offense. Our defense did well at times and poorly, especially our secondary had a hard time tonight. Congratulations to the Gilmer players, coaches and community on a great win. Go Dawgs! 1 1
michaelmyers Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 Good job Gilmer!! Y’all deserved the win tonight. Y’all came to play. Carthage didn’t. Carthage played like they hadn’t played a game all year. Hats off to Gilmer. Good luck next week.
MattStepp Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 Myself and Van HC Jared Moffat watched the end of the game in the pressbox...when Carthage sent it to OT we said "No way Carthage loses" Credit to Gilmer they hung in there and made plays when it counted, incredible win against all the odds 1 1
poisoned10 Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 I’ll admit I thought Gilmer had a 0% chance of winning this game. Even picked Carthage in this poll. I’m glad I was wrong! Go Buckeyes!

Then when we held Gilmer to the FG I thought we for sure were going to win. We had some big mistakes tonight, but Gilmer earned this victory and should revel in it for a good bit.

I was just out with the family and hadn't even thought about it being game day until I saw all those Bulldog shirts and hats. Got home in time to watch the second half. Congrats on the win. Probably the best high school game I've seen in years.
Sportsguru02 Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 Man I said this was Carthage worse secondary I’ve seen in a while and was called crazy. But I gotta give so much credit to the Oline because they held their own 2
nkahootz Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 Had some supposed upsets tonight. . D'field over Newts, Gilmer beating Carthage, Chapel H rubbing out Kilgore. Hope none of you betting fellas lost too much money. Lol

cowboyandchrist Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 Gilmer out played my Dawgs on both sides of the ball. They caught every pass even if it was third down and 30. My Dawgs could not catch a cold until the last drive to tie it up. Great game for the Gilmer fans and great season for my Dawgs I will be pulling for Gilmer next week. God Bless all and remember Jesus is answer. Thanks for putting up with number one Dawg homer fan. 5

I didn't count Gilmer out, and I am a Bulldawg fan! Ya'll won...truth is you dodged a bullet while winning. Congratulations on the win. Go take the gold.
Sbk5280 Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 Dawgs yall have an awesome team and a program that lots of people envy. Great O line, Young QB with a ton of potential, a hard running RB, and a stout Defense. Gilmer as a community really needed this win. After everything that Gilmer has gone through recently. This win right now means more than you know. All is good for a moment in a dark time. We don't know what next week will bring but for this night we will get to enjoy a single moment. This was a great game between 2 outstanding programs. Go BUX! 1 4 1
Bulldawg1924 Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 Good game tonight, Gilmer, and good luck on the rest of your season.
BevBrownJr Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 Congratulations to the Buckeyes. Have done a great job of turning things around since losing to Pleasant Grove. Best of luck next week against another team that has turned things around after a tough start. I’m sure this loss will provide plenty of incentive to the young players from Carthage as they work to start yet another long winning streak. The last 3 losses by this program were followed by winning streaks of 40 (2016-2018), 41 (2019-2021), and 29 (2022-2023). So it can be done…get your heads up and go back to work, Bulldogs. You have many fans who look forward to watching you go after it with all you’ve got.
CasualObserver70 Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 (edited) Okay, for a few quick observations: 1. Gilmer deserved to win tonight. They had the game wrapped up. All Tennison has to do is slide down after gaining the 1st down and Gilmer runs out the clock and wins 37-36. I’m glade the Buckeyes wound up winning, but the TD made a Carthage win possible. Someone should have told the kids one more 1st down ends it. I don’t think Surrat let them score. He had to be playing to get the ball back with 30 seconds left with a chance to win outright. He couldn’t take the risk of a Gilmer player getting the 1st Down, getting down, and running out the clock. 2. That said, Carthage still had to go 75 yards with 1:49 left and no time outs and then convert on the 2 pt try. I don’t know what it is with Gilmer, but they have struggled all year on defense with less than a minute left in the half / game. But give credit to Carthage for the drive. 3. Gilmer won the game tonight through the air. Henderson and Tennison had some big plays in the running game. But they won by passing the football. Great game by Tennison, Webb, Noble, and Tate. And the seam route to Henderson to give Gilmer the lead in the 4th quarter was a thing of beauty. 4. Fans might want to complain about the refs, but this was an evenly called game. There was only one horrible call, and that was the fumble that wasn’t on Carthage’s first possession of the 2nd half. What made the call so awful was the explanation: the runner’s forward progress was stopped. That doesn’t matter, the running back was still fighting for yards and the whistle had not blown. So the play is still live. If the ref had said his knee was down, I would still disagree but the play would have been technically dead at that point. But the play was still live because the whistle had not blown. Awful call there, but overall not much to complain about from the refs. 5. Give Gilmer defense some credit: When Carthage went up 36-24, most people thought the game was over. But Gilmer got a field goal, a Defensive Stop, and then the TD that put them ahead. Gilmer scored 17 unanswered points in the 4th quarter due to some huge defensive stops. 6. Pate. Wow. Ice Water in the veins. 4 field goals, each longer than the previous one. And the huge punt that led to the muff. Great game. 7. If any college scout was watching, Will Henderson can be a D1 cornerback. The play where he fought through the block to blow up the screen was incredible, and his interception was also great. For not playing much out there all season, he looked good. I’ve been waiting 9 years to say this: WE BEAT CARTHAGE!! Great game by both teams, great plays on both sides of the ball. Now Gilmer don’t have a let down for Glen Rose.
