You have 5A with the smallest % of schools in each choice.

Each of the others have over 2.+. This leaves 5A with less than 2. you didn't give a % only a number for 5A. but any body can multiply 4x2 and come up with 8 so this leaves 1+ for 5A

5A should be the largest not the smallest. Esp. if 4 teams go to the play-offs from this division. Also a few 100 doesn't make that much difference after you pass a certain number.

I think you should revamp your poll and give more to 5A and a smaller division to the other divisions.

At www.fridaynighthistory.com/mockalign3.html you will find a mock realignment for 2004-06 for 6 divisions. It is not perfect but it is intriguing. Look up your school and see what you think.

sackem.......Those with smaller than 100 play six man football. The UIL stated two years ago they wanted at least 245 schools in 5A and a 2.0-2.1 ratio for the 1A through 4A divisions. There is no ratio applied to 5A.

No anywhere NEAR perfect. That has to be the most laughable predictions that I have seen. He left out several teams that will play 6 man. He had some teams that will play 6 man listed in Class A. He went against past precedence by actually LOWERING the numbers for the Class A level. He even has some FOUR team districts in Class A which would mean you could make the playoffs with a 1-9 record. There will not be a 6A in the near future. The numbers in Class A will go to at least 199.5. The won't be any "byes" in Class A anymore because of the expansion of the playoffs. Other than that, it was OK. :saint:

Several schools with less than 100 choose to remain playing 11 man. Chester, Tenaha, and probably Oakwood will be among that group.

If you are going to have Division I and II why not have the two big schools in one division and the small school in the other. now it is cut and dried. the bigger schools in a district are close together. the biggest school usually makes the top 3. And the big school knows which way its going. But you could give the advantage to the small school in the district that makes the play-offs. also give some ? as to who goes where.

This might even make more sense in Class 4A and down. where a few hundred make a big difference. might even be where you could make a wider difference knowing if the small school could make the top three it would be in the play-offs with schools closer to its size.

losing very few on other side of ball. It would be brutal to drop them to 2a or draw the line at 400.

Colmesneil, you are usually more observant. You made some good points but missed the mark. This mock realignment was made for 2004-06. At that time only two teams made the playoffs in Class A, so it would have been impossible for a 1-9 team to make the playoffs in a 4-team district.

In his mock realignment two teams making the playoffs in a four team district may seem watered down but the UIL has 3 teams making the playoffs in a 5 team district (see 3A).

I said it wasn't perfect, but I posted it for discussion. There are some mistakes ie. Center listed in two districts in 3A. Obviously, with 3 teams making the playoffs in 1A and 4 teams making the playoffs in 5A, it would have to be revamped for 2006-08.

If we had 6 divisions we could go back to 2 teams making the playoffs from each district and crown one state champion per division.

Everyone who is complaining about not having a true champion should support only the district winner making the playoffs and leave all of those 9-1/8-2 wannabe runners-up at home. I don't understand how letting more teams in the playoffs is such a problem for some people. The state champion still has to win 6 games against the best in the state. If a team is not worthy they will be beaten in bidistrict. Don't forget how many more teams and students are playing now than in the past. I would suppose that there is more competition now than in the past just because of the increase in teams and students.

17a

I have a question about 17a. Where is Boles, Wolfe City, and Melissa? Those 3 are in that same area as those. Adding them 3 would give 9, maybe that area gets broken up into 2 districts.

The rules for teams playing up in a higher classification changed a few years ago.

Back in the day...... a team could "play up" for any reason if their enrollment was borderline to the class they were wanting to play in.

Teams could play up to keep rivalries alive, traditions, etc.

BUT..... 5A got crowded (and still is). Space was getting tight, so in 2002 UIL said that schools could no longer "play up" unless they fell under a certain criteria.

Dallas Carter hasn't had a 5A enrollment for well over a decade. Before 2002, they could have played up for ANY reason. Mostly it was because their biggest rivals were in 5A (Skyline and other DISD). Not to mention....they were competitive in 5A.

But..... after 2002, schools couldn't just play up for any reason anymore.

Now....to play up, you have to be in a MUTLIPLE HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT. DISD had to show there would be a hardship by them going to 4A. DISD already has a FULL 4A district. There wasn't any room for them in 4A. PLUS.... there is already an entire DISD district in 5A. It isn't overcrowded.....so Carter stays.

Had it been say.....Desoto HS (one HS town) they would have been forced to go 4A if they had Carter's enrollment.

Another reason is travel. Say.... Abilene Cooper drops to 4A. But say there isn't a 4A district in their area. They would have to travel to DFW for a 4A district. They could say that would be a travel harship....and that it would be better for them to stay in 5A with Abilene HS, Permain, Odessa, and that district.

Outside of being in a travel issue or being in a multiple HS district..... schools can no longer request up.

This region is up for a HUGE redistricting if as it is anticipated 21-AA loses FOUR teams going down to 1A.

Any speculation what will happen to Frankston, Elkhart, and Malakoff?

Posted

Frankston and Malakoff used to be in district with Arp and Troup. Also, they were in RegionII once.

Elkhart might go with Centerville, Leon, ect. or New Waverly, Corrigan district.
