allbig8 Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Let me try the Class A numbers game..... Class A top #- 199  Dawson Hubbard Italy Frost Rice  Cayuga Cross Roads Kerens Oakwood Wortham  Big Sandy Union Hill Overton Carlisle Alba Golden   Simms Bowie Karnack Maud Detroit Celeste  Grapeland Groveton Lovelady Iola Alto  Tenaha Mt. Enterprise Cushing Joaquin Beckville  West Sabine Burkeville Chester Colmesneil Apple Springs  Evadale H.Island Hardin Hull-Daisetta ??
ShakeTiller Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 That Grapeland District is a booger bear.
Eagle10 Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 My prediction is that Gilmer stays in the exact same district. Gilmer, Gladewater, Pittsburg, Mineola, Sabine (in that order, in almost every sport). The problem that creates, is filling out a 10 game schedule. Let's face it. The record Coach Traylor has compiled, along with the reputation Gilmer now has throughout East Texas (and beyond) means that Coach Traylor will have more and more difficulties finding teams that will schedule him. I think this year, Canton has a good chance of losing G.J. Kinne, which will take the air out of the East Texas Classic, and leave the folks in Tyler looking for someone willing to PLAY Gilmer (possibly a West Texas, or out of state team?). I don't think a new Coach in Canton has anything to gain by scheduling a ZERO week game against the Buckeyes, especially with no QB and a #1 receiver who has been suspended for that game (Houston T.) I think a pre-district schedule of Canton, Tatum, Daingerfield, Atlanta would be fantastic for everyone concerned. But even pulling THAT off still leaves 2 open dates. Tatum will most likely move doen to 2A this year, and Daingerfield is "On the Bubble". So I would say that 3 of the 4 games I just tentatively listed are 50/50 for coming apart with re-alignment. For Gilmer, a 7 or 8 team district would make life a LOT easier...but if that doesn't happen, what's a Coach to do? Â Here's a thought... set up a Tri-State "Champions League" with elite 2A, 3A and 4A teams in NE Texas, NW Louisiana, & SW Arkansas. Teams like Tatum, Gilmer, Kilgore from NE Texas could take on teams frm these states, either as HOME-n-HOME pre-district games, or at a 3-game neutral-site Saturday Spectacular (maybe at the Bowl Stadium in Shreveport?). Â Staying in the same 5 team district for Gilmer puts Coach Traylor in a pickle. If nobody will schedule you, and you CERTAINLY CAN'T play an 8 game schedule. I'm afraid this dilemma is going to become the price of success for this 50 mile stretch of pine, which is now consistently producing 3A State Champions (Atlanta, Gilmer, Tatum, ?) Either these elite teams can all agree to play each other every year, regardless of new alignments and classifications, or they'll be forced to travel great distances to play in "Gimmick" games. Â Let's hope that the good coaches in Gilmer, Atlanta, Tatum, & Daingerfield all get together and solve each others scheduling problems for AT LEAST the month of September...and if they do...WHAT A MONTH September will be for East Texas High School Football for YEARS to come!
RETIREDFAN1 Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 BUT, Cushing and High Island used to be in this district. THAT is a road trip.
RETIREDFAN1 Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Apple Springs is playing 6 man next season. Sabine Pass is rejoining UIL football next season as well, so they would be in the High Island district. I really hope that it ends up close to this way. We'd only have to beat Chester to make the playoffs.
Red90fly Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Where the heck is Iola??? That's gotta be a 100+ mile trip for us! Â That Simms Bowie district looks like a barn burner:rofl:
ShakeTiller Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 You can be in Iola in around an hour from Alto. It's not as far as you think it is.
ScooterG Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Why not put Cumby in the Simms Bowie district instead of Celeste
ShakeTiller Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 I am sure Kerens would pay big money for that alignment.

clawsnstripes Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 gotta be a way to keep schools from having to try to compete with schools twice their size.
c-train Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 We know the enrollment numbers for the last reallignment, but does anybody know just how many schools have been in each class?
allbig8 Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 My bad on Cumby.. Knew I'd left someone out..... Talk about having some fairly suspect third place teams in....
Red90fly Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 Abundant Life will also be down somewhere in the High Island district probably. Ore City, Hawkins will be somewhere. Â West Rusk and Union Grove are still ??? I don't know their #'s:shrug:

Buckeyeman Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 When I high school-over 30 years ago - I seem to remember that realignment was done in the fall before the football season even ended. Does anybody remember??
Rabfan Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 if both Daingerfield and Jefferson both drop down to 2A then that would leave the district Atlanta,PG,LE and NB with only 4 teams and nobody to fill the gaps. Â theres not a team within nearly 100 miles thats either going to move up or down during this coming realignment. Â does anybody besides me forsee a possible situation like Longview, JT,Lufkin and REL were in a few years ago with a 4 team district where the top three teams make the play-offs and they play each other twice during the district schedule? Â i just don't see any substitutes for loosing those two teams. Â UIL would have to start at I-35 and move east to rearange all of the districts to make it work.
Rhino2K Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Can't go too far north or east. Would it make better sense to align Atlanta with teams down the "I-30 Dallas corridor" or group it with "deep East Texas?"
bluetiger114 Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 What about putting Pittsburg in with Atlanta, PG, LE and NB...only 20 minutes west of Daingerfield.
Matthew328 Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 I personally don't think there will be much movement in east texas in 5A or 4A as far as classes go...Lindale may likely move up and join the old 17-4A....you could see Pine Tree or Marshall move over and join Texas High's district..if that happens look for Greenville to move back into a DFW district...I think Tatum and Jefferson both move down to 2A...Daingerfield will be really close IMO....
