Gilmer’s DEFENSE of all things and Will Henderson was the major difference in this game! Outside of the 3 big plays allowed in the 1st half Bellville was able to do little vs the Buckeye defense. Bellville’s offense was only able to gain 77 yards in the 2nd half after gaining 282 in the 1st half. And Will Henderson capped off what might have been the greatest season ever for any Buckeye player with another 250+ yard performance. Will is a special young man and an exceptional athlete. I’m glad he was on our team!

A interesting note, last week, Bellville stopped a Wimberly 2-point conversion to win the game, this week Gilmer stops a Bellville 2-point conversion to essentially win the game. Funny how things play out sometimes.

I’ll be completely honest, I was one of the doubters of this team. After the 1st 6 games, I expected Gilmer to get knocked out early on and even thought Center had a good chance to beat us. Well I’ll gladly eat that crow and just say that this coaching staff has done amazing things this year in getting the right players into the right positions in the right times and doing the right things.

Proud of my team, my coaches, my players and my town! It’s a GREAT day to be a #Buckeye

I got to hand it to Bellville they played hard and can easily see why they were 15-0. Gilmer played the heart of the champion and redeemed themselves from an early start . Gilmer was tough but Henderson kid was a special player. Was exiting seeing that kid play. He will excel on Saturdays.

In all honesty I don’t think Bellville would have beat Carthage or PG. Our front 7 really controlled the game besides like 3 or 4 busted plays. Both Carthage and PG front 7 were better than ours.

Yeah, we held Henderson to very little, and he went off on GR and Bellville.

That's exactly what I was thinking; and truthfully, the score was closer than the actual game. Their 3 scores on busted plays, outside of that, pretty much nothing. And that's with the Bux turning ball over on downs at least twice, maybe 3 times so it definitely could of been 42-45 to 21

Congrats Gilmer and very well deserved..I was somewhat surprised the dallas broadcasters picked

bellville to win. Apparantley they don't know east texas football.

All the professionals let the computer sway their judgement.  They looked at the 15 games as a whole, vs looking at the last 6 or 9 to see the trend.  This was not the only game they missed this week.

I don’t agree. This game could have gone either way and this was a pretty even matchup. Gilmer won the turnover battle. Belleville Defense shut out the Bucs in the 2nd half. Something Carthage couldn’t do. Gilmer ran up and down the field on Carthage. I didn’t see PG play this year but the Bellevillle defense is on a whole different level than Carthage.

East Texas 4A football is just a different animal. I knew Gilmer played the best 4A had to offer in East Texas and got better every game. If the Gilmer QB threw the ball against Belleville like he did against Carthage, it would have been a blow out. But with Henderson running the ball like a man on a mission and the Gilmer D playing like they did. It worked out just fine.

Carthage would have beat Belleville. Gilmers QB and receivers were deadly against the Dawg secondary. Nobody was just going to run the ball on Carthage. Belleville had no passing game. Gilmer’s defense played lights out against Belleville. I doubt Belleville would have scored on Gilmer had Gilmer left a safety back. Go back and watch the game. There was no one back in the middle of the field on both TD runs of Belleville. All Gilmer secondary was close to the line of scrimmage.

I actually think the same thing.  The Carthage and PG offense was better than Bellville’s offense.  Once Gilmer made 2nd half adjustments, they were able to shut Bellville down for the most part.  That didn’t happen with Carthage or PG. As far as the closeness of the game, Tate had a clear TD if Tennison doesn’t under throw him for the interception, and Gilmer ended the game on the Bellville 9.  I thought I heard someone say Bellville had punted twice all season. They punted 3 times in the second half last night.  But most importantly I thought Gilmer was the tougher, more physical team. That was definitely not the narrative before the game.
