Gen7Dragon Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 It's very impressive for a 4a team to make it this far running an offense that came from the Civil War era. Bellville must have an incredible group of kids! It's a shame they don't get to play a more modern version of the game. The modern offense is much safer, and way more fun to play and watch. As for this game Gilmer is no doubt battle tested! They have faced some very good teams, and seem to be playing good at the right time. I don't know a lot about Bellville other than they are big and run an ancient offense. I'm picking Gilmer for a solid win. Their speed will eventually break it open. 2
Lion7000 Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 Slot T offense is awesome not traditional not what we are accustomed to. If you can run it then it is extremely efficient and effective . It also keeps the other offense off the field with ball control.
iRockNewbzz Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 Good luck today Buz #bEASTtx rooting for ya!
EastTxFinest Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 Go get it Gilmer!!!! We're cheering you on from Daingerfield!!!!! 1
MuleSlicks Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 Early in the season I thought Gilmer would never make it to JW. You guys have proved me wrong. Now go win the title and bring that Gold plack back to Gilmer. Daingerfield backing you all the way. Go Bucks.

Ancient or not, nothing like seeing a team just exert their dominance on a team in the trenches. With the right athletes and precise execution, the wing t / slot t is fun to watch. A win is a win regardless of the offense. 1

Our defense is young and we grown and gotten better with every game. I wouldn’t chalk that Carthage game up to a fluke and to underestimate this Gilmer team would not be wise. As a HUGE Carthage fan and supporter, that win by Gilmer was in no way a fluke. Gilmer WON that game on both sides of the ball. To say that was a fluke would mean that you didn't watch the game Texlov. Gilmer deserved and earned that win. I hope that those Buckeyes dominate Bellville today and bring the ring back east on 20 with them! Edited December 15, 2023 by Bob Parr 2004 3

Winning is fun…Offensive scheme doesn’t matter at that point… I’m sure all 3 RBs that have 1800 more yards or more a piece are really just having a terrible time 1

Running the spread is WAY more fun all around. I know about both styles first hand. I do enjoy the big guys in the trenches as well. Physical defense with good tackling, and offensive lines that are well coached are fun to watch as well. I'm just not a fan of the 3 yard and a cloud of dust concepts. Spread it out and let your athletes move around in space. It's safer to play that way (which is a proven fact) and it's more fun in general. 1

That can be accomplished no matter the scheme. I respectfully disagree about the style of offense. I have experience with both. The modern offense is safer (proven fact) and way more fun. I think the up the gut stuff is relevant to football, and should be taught, but not the main ingredient. Especially in 4a. I prefer a mix.

No doubt, "3 yds and a cloud of dust offense" that has scored more points and gained more yards than any team in the state including Gilmer. Hopefully they can hobble in and make it a game.

If you "have experience with both", you would not be referring to the Slot T as "ancient" and you would know that the majority of the plays are not "up the gut". 1

Well, Liberty Hill has won a couple of state championships as well as multiple district championships and deep runs in the playoffs using that "civil war era" offense at the 5A level !!! If you are a good coach you have to match the style of offense with the players/talent level you have to work with. There is absolutely nothing worse that watching a team try to run a spread type offense without the players to run it properly. The Slot T and its many variables are extremely difficult offenses to stop. They can successfully burn the play clock, thus limiting the other teams possessions. You can have the fastest, most talented team but if your offense is sitting on the sideline watching the "four yards and a cloud of dust" offense march down the field, you will lose. I am still looking for teams that the Belleville offense scored all those points on that are in the same hemisphere as Carthage, Kilgore, Chapel Hill, and PG. If any of the teams mentioned and will include Gilmer had played the same schedule. How many points would they have scored and given up. The two teams Belleville played in Jasper and Wimberley, the Belleville out put went way down and almost got beat.

I also remember the number two rushing team in the nation with two running backs with over two thousands yards each and QB with 1200 yards rushing got blown out in a state championship game in Jerry’s House. I still pull up the video with the dog talking. One of the all time funniest video’s referring to a state championship game in 2017.

The entire playoff run Bellville keeps getting the “Well compare the teams they played to the teams we played” treatment and it’s hilarious. Glad it carried all the way to the state championship. All I can say is a lot of you better pray that Gilmer doesn’t lose this game because there will be some major crow being served otherwise. Best of luck to Gilmer and safe travels to everyone attending

No one will ever know what they "would have done", All we know is what they "actually done". All they "actually done" is go 15-0 with the top offense and defense in the state. That is all we know for certain. In a few more hours we will know who is better between Bellville and Gilmer.
iRockNewbzz Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 And if Bellville gets romped, @89Falconand @Utfan06 gonn have enough crow to feast on from now until Jan 1st

The two teams Belleville played in Jasper and Wimberley, the Belleville out put went way down and almost got beat. they scored 61 on silsbee and called off the dogs early second half. Silsbee was ranked 2nd in the state I believe, and that group of seniors went 25-2 the last two years in one of the tougher districts in the state, with a trip to the state quarters last season. Bellville almost got beaten by Jasper? They beat them by 4 scores, and jasper is dang good. If gilmer gives up points the way they have all season, Bellville might push 70. I get that Gilmer beat Carthage, but the word all over the state has been this was the year to beat Carthage, which proved true. They shouldn't have made it as far as they did. And finally, I've also never seen a fan base put so much value in losing to teams. over and over in this thread "the bellville offense didn't score all those points on teams in the same hemisphere as carthage, killgore, chapel hill, and PG". Neither did Gilmer against two of them, and the two games they did put up points against those caliber teams they gave up 71 and 44. Silsbee, Wimberly, and Jasper would be competitive with all the teams you mentioned. I fell into the trap of "Bellville played a crappy schedule" as well until they boatraced a bunch of really good teams from down my way in the playoffs and made it to the finals. Anyone predicting a blowout win for Gilmer is in for a surprise. I wouldn't be particularly shocked if Bellville blows Gilmer out, but realistically I'll take bellville by 17-21 points.
