For only the third time since the turn of the millennium, Joaquin ISD is looking for a new Boys AD/ head football coach. The Rams are coming off only their 3rd losing season of the last 20 years and have great facilities for a small school. Let the guessing games begin.

Wonder if they will keep the same offense .....

They have ran the slot-t for several years agtwr they ran the flex bone triple option for ages. Is it time for the rams to run the spread offense?

Joaquin has never run the flexbone. Under Coach Gandy we ran the double wing and it was very effective. The formation resembles the flexbone somewhat, but the playbook and blocking scheme isn’t even close.

Got ya. Just with the motions and dive sets i assumed it was basically the same. It had been 20 years since i saw them play under gandy. Got what was coming assuming. Lol

Will those in the hiring process let the new coach run what he thinks is best or will they have their hands on the scale for the run heavy tradition?

Pretty sure Lawson was planning on doing something different this year even before accepting the Waskom job.

How about lets match what the personnel is good at…. For the most part Joaquin is always gonna be a run dominant team because of the quality of kids and athleticism they have. There will be an athlete from time to time there that can run around and spread it out in space but the genetics in that town are not conducive to the run and shoot…They have had quite a few of athletes in the past and could have more than likely mixed in the pass some more but that’s not the route that was chosen. It won them several games over the past 9 yrs but the only problem I observed from afar is their ceiling was limited in being totally 1 demential. Whoever comes in needs to have a base scheme and then adapt to what the kids are best capable of doing…. Nothing worse than attempting to run an offense and not have the correct personnel…. Cushing tried the spread for years and didn’t have the kids….

I don't like change. Not even a little bit. Call me whatever you want but I won't be happy unless it's Jared or some other Joaquin Alum. It needs to be someone who understands how important Ram football is to everyone here.

You want to purposely reduce your coach search down to one man or only a Joaquin alum?

In my opinion, that’s not the wisest choice JISD can make in this situation.

A coach does not have to have graduated from Joaquin in order to understand how important J football is to that community.

Do you want someone from within so you can keep the / a run heavy offense intact?

Whoever takes over will have a pretty good standard to live up to. Wayne Gandy took over at Joaquin in 2002, and over 13 seasons amassed a 95-49 record, winning 4 district titles and one regional championship. That’s a .659 winning percentage. Wade Lawson took over in 2015 and over nine years went 59-25 and advanced to regional semis twice. He leaves with a winning percentage of .702. So you’re looking at a program that has gone 154-74 over the last 22 years. Yes there are programs in East Texas that have seen more success, and certainly ones just right down the road that have had bigger moments in recent years. But the standard is set. It has been proven that we can win, and whoever winds up being the next head coach here will be measured against that standard. I will be there to support him and the kids, and that’s what every member of the RAMNATION should do, regardless if they agree with the play calling or not.

Yeah after thinking about it I'm not married to that opinion anymore. Idk in my head this is a "built by us" thing. But Wayne Gandy wasn't from here and if it wasn't for him joaquin wouldn't have won 20 games in the last 20 years. Idk how I feel right now to be honest.

I understand, change is a tough thing to wrap your mind around.
If I were y’all I would still run a similar offense, but hire a coach who actually uses the forward pass somewhat regularly so it’s not almost totally foreign to the players.

Coach Bickham and Coach Ferguson knows y'all's system pretty good!

Idk Bickham... but thats a big no on the second one. I'd literally pull my kids outta the district if they made that hire.
