DeKlabBeers
Is this the same Groverton that was talked about in the famous TXHSFB movie Remember the Titans?

Seeing how that movie was set in Virginia, I’m guessing Groveton, Texas probably wasn’t the team portrayed. In addition, that Groveton wore black and gold uniforms, whereas the Groveton, Texas Indians wear red and white. However, the Groveton Virginia team had a nose guard that was meaner than a copperhead snake. Tru storie!
2wedge
Ray Woodard's name comes to mind for Groveton. Wouldn't take too much to plug him into the head role and he would probably stay until he couldn't stay anymore.
Slickarick
Interesting job here. They improved ranking wise in district from last year to this year, but I wonder if that is more due to graduation by CC or them getting a better. Maybe a little of both. Still one and done running into district 11. We will see what they can do this next year. With Waskom moving down I wonder if this shakes the East Texas Districts up. Will Waskom falling cause the Beckville district or the Timpson/Garrison district to change?

Gonna be some big changes in this division.
BEASTeastTX
As someone that is very familiar with the program in the past and the community, they really need someone to come in and revive the culture as a whole. a super super fun ls school guy isn’t going to work here. Gonna need someone who isn’t afraid to oust the envelope.

Super old school* my fault. but to your question I think there’s an interesting dichotomy in coaching ball these days. you can’t be too much of one or the other. Takes time. Groveton needs someone to spark the community, used to be a great place.

Just wondering, because the talent level is not the same as it once was......

Red90fly
Groveton is sorta' like Alto these days. Once a proud, stout program that has fallen off the map that will be hard to recover and get back to what they once were.

Don't know, seems to be a lot of rule towns are going this way that 30+ mins from bigger cities ( Lufkin/Huntsville) where people are moving into those cities for work and to help with cost of transportation to and from work. Not a lot in Groveton to bring in folks for work.

I am also pretty familiar with the place....unless Groveton has become so undisciplined as a program, school district, and community, or the parents are now soft, I see no reason why an old school, "buttkicker" of a coach wouldn't be good for the place. If you want the culture "revived", that is exactly what you are going to need. The successful coaches of the past were exactly that in Groveton Texas. I full well believe that Groveton can handle someone that expects a lot of their kids, and will push them out of their comfort zone.

A butt kicker if a coach is just a good coach. I’m talking about someone willing to go out in the community, maybe do some stuff with that county sheriff that’s always on Facebook live, open car doors at the elementary school, things like that, fun things that make elementary school kids excited about being a Groveton Indian again. It just seems like they haven’t had that in a while. I don’t mean a soft coach…. Nobody needs that.

Steubing was a hell of a coach. Just not enough talent. The coach before him did make some stupid mistakes though.
