Texas has an incredible defense and that’s the new identity of this team. The offense can be explosive but is struggling with consistency right now.

You get a bye week right now to let Quinn, Bond, and Makuba heal up. They get a week to self scout and correct mistakes.

This team is still going to be hard to beat. Offense just needs to play slightly better, heck just don’t turn it over in our own territory.Β

This.Β

Don't turn it over in our own territory, and we possibly beat Georgia and Vandy doesn't score a touchdown. That's been the biggest killer.

Florida is better as the season goes but ,Texas Β should easily handle this matchup. For the record I thought the same against Vandy!Β

It all depends on Ewers.Β

Β

OU - if Arch plays, I think Texas scores 70.Β

Georgia - If Arch plays, I think Texas likely wins.Β

Vandy - If Arch plays, I think Texas wins big.Β

Β

Ewers has been the issue. The defense has been great. The OL has had a few moments, but most of what has looked like poor OL play has been on Ewers (except the penalties. They need to clean that up!). If the OL gives the QB 4 seconds and he gets sacked, that's on the QB, not the OL. Ewers has grown this tendency to stand in the pocket like a statue. It generally ends up with him taking a sack, or throwing a pick. Neither are good.Β

Quinn has -27 career rushing yards at Texas... That is the glaring problem imo, which is what makes Arch a much better option. Quinn can't scramble. He self sacks way too much.Β

He might win you games, but they are wins that are way too close because he lacks the ability to create and be mobile. Once teams figure that out, it's game over.

The more I watch, the more I think Ewers and Weigman are the same player, Texas has just had better receivers to help him. Both have bad pocket presence, can’t/wont run, take too many chances and make the offenses one dimensional far too often relative to the talent.Β
Β

That being said, I think Arch has his limitations as well much like Reed still does. I can understand the hesitation from both HCs to make the switch, but it needs to be done. I don’t think Ewers can beat A&M and I don’t think Weigman can beat Texas. If those two start it will be a game of who can win despite their QBs.Β

Sounds like A&M to an extent and QB is obvious! Still Ewers has some good history so I can see why they’re reluctant ! Β A&M probably gonna the package deal but they’re different type of Quarterbacks. Ewers seems to struggle with the deep pass and Manning more mobile from the little I saw!

Not just that, but Ewers averages 5 yards a throw, which is among the lowest in the conference. He often throws the ball horizontally, so his completion numbers are very high and to your point, the receivers are good enough to make plays. But it's not necessarily anything special from Quinn. I'm hesitant to give up on him because I've seen him at his best, and there's a chance he comes back off the bye and had a mental reset and gets back to that level, but my concern is very high.Β

Elko might have had a little bit easier of a decision, or I should say less pressure, to switch to Reed. Similar to Arch, he can create plays, where Weigman and Ewers just can't do it. That always gives you a chance to win even when you have the occasional rookie mistake. But I think Sark is really trying to get Quinn back on track and save his NFL stock. I don't know that for sure, but that's what it looks like to me. Don't really care for that if that's the case.

I can't agree. The OL has had a few moments? Eleven sacks in the last to games to go along with the penalties? QE isn't guiltless, but it's not his fault alone.

Turnovers are the big one for me, clean those up and 2 out of the last 3 games are blowouts, while possibly beating UGA (spotted them 20 pts off TOs).

Where did I say it was Ewers fault alone?Β
Β

What I did imply, and will now flat out say, is that more of the sacks he takes are on him than the OL.Β
Β

Just because a QB gets sacked doesn’t mean it’s the OL’s fault. If he has 4 seconds the OL does their job. If the QB gets sacked after 4 seconds, that’s his fault. Ewers was sacked 7 times against Georgia. At least 4 of those was due to him either holding the ball too long, or not stepping up in the pocket. Same thing against Vandy. That’s on him, not the OL.Β
Β

So of the 11 sacks over the last 2 games, I’d bet 7 of them were on him.Β

Georgia also gave them 3 turnovers. Georgia drove the field and turned it over inside the 5 when the wr had the ball bounce off his hands and a Texas player got the int, got it back a couple of plays later on a Ewers pick and scored from a short field. Yes it was a short field but they should have scored from the 5 to begin with so it wasn’t really the gift everyone is making it out to be.Β

That’s why I said β€œpossibly beating UGA” πŸ˜‰

I think the post that really sums it up so far is the one that showed the opponents starting field position and then pts scored from those positions. Yes, shot ourselves in the foot in the 1st half vs UGA and offense looked awful doing it....But lets not beat ourselves up too bad, because 2nd half we outscored them 15-7 and at one point it was an 8pt game and we had them in 3rd and 1/2 a mile and they converted [then went on to score TD that sealed it]. But, like it's been echoed, I think at least 75% of the time Ewers gets sacked, it's because A) he held onto the ball too long or B) he didn't step up in pocket/take the green grass available to him]

Put these on and you will see what they are talking about.

I don't understand this, seeing as how most of the Texas fans on this site agree with WETSU's take, and have expressed the same opinion of Ewers ourselves.Β

I wouldn’t be surprised if Quinn Ewers struggles against Florida next week Sark puts Manning in. Quinn has had too many moments this year where he holds the ball too long and misses open reads. It’s like he’s trying to be too perfect instead of just playing.Β

If Texas does struggle against Florida. You almost have to make a QB change! No one is sold on Ewers despite on what he has done! Kinda reminded me of Sam Ellienger a few years back or Major Applewhite many moons ago!Β

You mean the guy who carried the Texas program on his back into somewhat relevancy after the Charlie Strong era?
