You mean the guy who carried the Texas program on his back into somewhat relevancy after the Charlie Strong era?

He wasn’t well liked so it appeared. He was kinda like Trever knight for A&M to a lesser degree! Dude gave you everything!

Bro... What are you talking about? Sam Ehlinger is a Longhorn Legend. His story and love of the UT has made him one of the most beloved Longhorns of all time.

I might be thinking the other guy who he was competing with! Just chalk it up as Lion being lion like y’all always do! Definitely not an expert in Texas Athletics lol!

The guy that avg’d 7 wins per season because he single handed lost games for Texas?

most overrated qb in Texas history

He averaged 8 wins a year (one shorted season for Covid made it lower). That is right on par with what Texas has been for most of it's history. He also brought you out of the Charlie Strong era? How many wins a year were you averaging then?

Could’ve won more but his dumb mistakes cost games we should’ve won

Texas fans got extremely spoiled during that Mack run and it’s kind of changed the expectations they have. They look At that as the norm for Texas rather than its peak.

Isn't all programs that has had some good success like this? I don't want to get in a back and forth comparison of UT and A&M, we all have expectations going into a season. Both programs have the resources to compete at a top level year in and year out. Honestly, it really doesn't matter in today's game. Although we all want to be ranked at the highest, we just have to be one of the twelve to make the CFP.

I don't agree, at all, that Texas under Mack Brown was the 'peak'. Texas won 3 NC's under Darrell Royal. I think most would agree that 3 NC's in 7 years is far greater than 9 consecutive double digit win seasons.

Let me rephrase. The peak under modern football. All of DKRs titles came before scholarship limitations and before every team was fully integrated. The game was definitely different then.

Cook leaving the program, wish him gl In future wherever he goes.

He just got buried on depth and Moore/Wingo was outplaying him

Cook didn't leave, he was dismissed. Big difference.

Oh shoot, didn't see that; at quick glance thought headline said was leaving the program, and I just thought that Immediately meant he was transferring, not that he was dismissed! ***My first post wasn't correct, ignore that*** thx @Baron

Exactly.  Conference champions mean absolutely nothing now

Shane Buechele? I don't think Texas fans dislike him, but he is more worthy of the Trevor Knight comparison.

Sam wasn't the best QB, but Texas was in absolute rock bottom from the end of Mack Brown through the Charlie Strong era. He followed Jerrod Heard, Tyrone Swoopes, Case McCoy, etc. One of the weakest QB rooms year in and year out from 2011-2016. Ehlinger might not have been amazing, but you know that the dude was going to run through a brick wall and give everything he had every single Saturday . Plus, his personal story and love of the university is why I think he is VERY appreciated by Longhorn fans.

I'll always back Ehlinger. He lost us some games early in his career, but he helped turn the page on those terrible early 2010 years.

Shane Buechele and Ellinger are both on NFL rosters. @Lion7000 Texas fans have no complaints about either of them.
