the very likely rematch game with Ryan will be pivotal..imho, the 2nd best team in 5A D1. If the bearcats get through this season with a state championship..a 4 peat is entirely possible..the bearcats will be way better next year.

Ryan is going to be a very tough game if we play them again. They'll think they let us off the hook. But I do think whoever wins R1 will win state. Hopefully we can be as healthy as possible for our 29th consecutive playoff run!

The thing is, their first half burst was just that..big plays! They never sustained long drives with consistency, nor did they ever control the LOS, and the bearcats were missing 2 OL starters..and, the bearcats would never give up with 3+ minutes left, and go home with 3 timeouts in their pocket..they showed disrespect in that game that won’t be forgotten. I hope the bearcats do play them again.

I thought it was just the RG that was out. What other lineman was missing?

Our DLine is too physical and quick for that to work consistently , for 4 qtrs…especially vs playoff Aledo.

I'd have to see us improve quiet a bit before I am as confident as you are lol. I think a rematch with Ryan is 55/45 (Aledo).

I’ll be interested to see how the secondary does vs the Richland  vertical passing attack…which, is very good, and has been their bread and butter with the injury/ loss of RBI..the bearcat DLine may have a jailbreak night, and disrupt it somewhat, but they will get some long passes launched

I think passing the ball is all they will have. I don't think they will be able to run on us. Hopefully the secondary is up to the challenge. If not then we should still be ok with our ability to control the game. They are to have a hard time stopping us.

This week is the other big match-up that could have potentially given Aledo trouble.  However, after seeing what Ryan did to Richland, and what Aledo did to Ryan, I don't think it will be close.  Aledo's defense wore out Ryan, I expect them to do the same against Richland, especially in the 2nd half.  

Other Aledo note, the band finished 5th at Bands of America this past weekend and only falling behind massive 6A bands.  They finished with all 1s at regionals (not completely sure what that means but it’s good) and they compete at the 5A area contest this weekend in Birdville.  The top 3 bands (it could be top 5 depending on the number of participants that advanced to area) advance to state.  I am confident that Aledo should advance to state, which is really exciting for my kid.

Finally, I know its not Aledo related, but Mineral Wells put up a hell of a fight.  We were down 7-0 at half only giving up a punt return for a TD.  While leaving 3 scores on field due to "crapping our pants" mistakes.  A dropped wide open TD pass, penalty killing TD chance at the 1 yd line, and another red zone blunder could have left us with 21 points in the 1st half.  We also had some good drives in the 2nd half.  Brock has 2 studs.  #7 (the WR and they need to get him the ball every damned play) and their QB (the kid is fast and tough).  Our defense looks good, we have Graham this week.

After watching Ryan beatdown Richland I wasn't as excited for this game. But I'm starting to come around. It should be a good game. I think the last time we played them was a region final in '17???

Richland matched us pretty good in the trenches and that was a big part of it. They started the game with an onside kick and they were going for the throat from the jump. They were up 28-14 and got the ball back first after the half. We made some adjustments and started the comeback. Ended up going to OT and was able to hold up. At the very least this team has shown the ability to battle back from adversity.

It looked to me like the bearcats were uncharacteristically unprepared for the game, the post game remarks from Jones confirmed that..and coach Kates had a masterful gameplan..that dang near worked. He was smart not to go for 2, and the win at the end of the 4th, the bearcats on the field were practically daring him to. If they somehow get past Abilene/Ryan in the 3rd rd..it won’t be that close. The bearcats need to get 13 more involved in the passing game, the dude is an excellent deep threat, and works the middle, and hash really well. Overall, I’m optimistic that some obvious wrinkles will get ironed out.

We just dont have that good of a passing game as years past.

I’ve noticed that in the games I’ve attended.  Anything over 30 yards is hit or miss down the sideline.

Aledo band won Area F and advanced to state November 4-5.  I’ll keep y’all updated as much as I can in real time.  Aledo social media is pretty damned fast on these things though
