We have a kid who will be a junior that you’ll enjoy the next 2 seasons. He’s going to be a problem.

What’s his name? Would love to watch some film 🎥!

Looking forward to watching a very competitive district race next fall.  Should be fun for us fans. Here are some thoughts after realignment

Atlanta - I think this will be Coach Morton's best team. Not sure what he was thinking when he scheduled PG but I do think they will be improved.  Batton, Harrison, and Riley are all explosive players but I think the key for the rabbits is improving the OL play.  If I remember correctly the OL was young last year. Defensively, I'm sure they will be fast but they got pushed around a lot last year.  To me, making the playoffs and having a successful season will be determined by how well the OL and defense play

Tatum - I think they were hit hardest by graduation but I think Keeling and staff are top notch so they will come up with a plan.  Particularly on defense, I think they got better throughout the year.  I anticipate Keeling putting the Gun that he utilized with Watson last year back on the shelf and going straight flexbone.  Bradley, Sigler, Moore, and Cayden Tatum will step up for the eagles.  To me, the biggest question is whether Bradley can throw well enough to keep the defense honest.

Jefferson - If the bulldogs will buy into Coach Taylor I think they have the potential to take the next step. Kam, Taylor, and Love are 3 potent weapons along with others. If the jeffy OL can be as good or better than last year I think they could be in the hunt for the DC.  I think Coach Taylor will have a big impact on the defense.

Sabine - I think Coach Gilbert and staff get the most out of their kids.  They were right on the cusp of making the playoffs last year and if it is going to happen in this district then this has to be the year, imo.  They have a strong senior class but as @Bclove05 points out they just lack speed.  I think they will miss silvertooth in the run game but they have the best up tempo offense in the district, imo.  If they can find a running back and tackle well enough I think they have a chance to make the playoffs.  They just have such a small margin for error on defense with their lack of speed.

Gladewater - Of all the district teams, I think the bears will show the most improvement over last year.  They were just so young (I know others were young also) yet seemed to find a better groove on offense last year with the different packages they ran.  IMO, Woods and Cooper will be dynamic offensive players and the QB can throw the ball decently.  I'm interested to see how they do in 7v7 this summer.  I think they will be better on defense as well.  The bears are my darkhorse for the DC.

LE - I just don't know much about them besides their athleticism and dropping down in classifications.  I do think Coach Willard will be a good hire and they uphold the district tradition of the new coach bringing in a QB by hire.  My all indications LE should be in the hunt for the DC but I'm not ready to roll out the red carpet just yet.

White Oak - The Roughnecks have to be improved, right?  I know Ludlow touted their youth all last year and he got to schedule non-district teams that he believes they can beat.  He has had a chance now to implement his program so all the rope that is usually extended to a first year coach has been used up.  From all indications, last year's team was the worst in school history so surely there will be improvement.

Those are my sunday morning thoughts (as if any of you care!) so time to get ready for a great worship service at Mobberly Baptist church. Come out and join us.

We definitely lost the most as far as impact players. Watson and Gonzalez were game changers. We return all 3 fullbacks including our leading rusher in Gipson as well as Moore, who you mentioned, and Nance. Don't be surprised if you see Sigler a lot more at receiver and a younger cat or 2 at RB/Slotback opposite of Cayden Tatum. Defensively, I'd say we got much better but losing Watson at LB is gonna sting a little. Got a couple other kids that saw a lot of time at LB giving Watson a breather....at least we'll have some kind of experience to fill the void. The incoming freshman will probably anchor the D-Line in the middle. Moore will be tough at DE as a senior, Nance comes back at the other DE spot. Harrison and Peoples both return at OLB. Tatum and Smith return in the secondary. I think the defense will be improved. Offensively it's all gonna boil down to Bradley's progression running the system. Nobody should expect him to be Watson....he won't be and he can't be. But before Watson.....Keeling had a dude, and before that dude, he had another dude, and so on. Each dude had a different skill set and style.....they'll have Bradley ready to be the dude.....offense might be tweaked some. Every weapon not named Gonzalez comes back at his disposal...he'll have help. There's zero room for growing pains, unfortunately, with us jumping into the fire instantly against Winnsboro with Daingerfield, Newton, and West Rusk to follow. He's gonna have hit the ground running as a starter. Moving up a JV that lost one district game, 14-12 to Gladewater should fill holes and add depth.

Patterson will be RB1 for Sabine this year. He is faster than Silvertooth and catches the ball very well. We’ll see how he holds up play both ways. I’m not sure what the running back position will look like behind him though. We have to get better on the other side of the ball though. Speed is containable. There are plenty of teams around the state that do it so no reason we can’t too.

Speed can be contained. But if you ain't got it and the other team does.....one little crease, one little mistake.....6 points. Having guys that can go run down that mistake is huge. LE, Jeffy, Atlanta have the speed that can go catch that mistake and force another set of downs. It's a big advantage.

It’s the big plays we have to do a better job of limiting. Most of it is just being disciplined on defense and not getting out of position. We can’t make up for being out of position. Another thing is making a big play when the opportunity arises. Example: Not making the interception late against Atlanta. We win the game with an interception there and start off district with a big road win. Who knows how the rest of district plays out with some confidence on our side instead of a heartbreaking loss.

I agree Patterson is a good player but I don't think Gilbert likes to play guys both ways without having someone to rotate with.  With the tempo Sabine plays at I don't think anyone can take almost every snap on both sides of the ball and be effective.  I would think Gilbert would prefer to have him take every snap on defense.

Speed is containable but it takes great team effort chasing the ball, great angles and leverage, and solid tackling especially in 1v1 situations.  Unfortunately, if the slower team doesn't do all of those things right consistently it's usually not just a 20-30 yd gain, it's a touchdown from any place on the field.  It's doable but there is a reason speed kills.

Agree.  I think if Sabine wins that game they make the playoffs. Such a small margin for error.

Speed makes up for mistakes and it's mistakes that usually decide close games

Absolutely!  He just didn’t as many touches. I can see that changing this season.

Was he the kid that y’all direct snapped to against us and ran it right up the middle?

I think we’ll have more depth in the coming years. The younger grades have lots of kids that play.

Yep he’s definitely gonna be a problem lol, the patience thru the hole, he ran over a couple of lineman in his way plus the ability to run away from the defense yea he’s legit!

Should be fun to watch. I hear he’s a very hard working kid and hasn’t stopped working since the season ended.

That’s awesome sounds like he has some goals in mind, it won’t be long before he’s being recruited big time! What will y’all bring back on the O-line?

Pretty much the entire line. We also had a solid JV OL and DL.

Sounds like you guys will be much improved, the O-line looked pretty good last year y’all should be able to run the ball on just about everyone! I looked at your schedule last year and it was brutal in the preseason y’all definitely looked better than the record indicated!

We have some pieces but a lot of improvement needs to be made. I know there is optimism that it will be a better year but the kids will have to work hard and the coaches will need to lead them.

Wonder if the freshman that got moved up to play defense will be apart of the backfield next year.
