Hey....I went (7-0) in my predictions this week.

I don't get to gloat often because...well....TXHSFB happens....lmao.

So I'll take this small victory....lmao.

Next couple of weeks are going to be tough.  Texas High, Marshall, Whitehouse are all facing some powerhouses.

Week 2
Longview Vs. Marshall
Texas High Vs. Liberty Christian
Whitehouse Vs. Kilgore
Lindale Vs. Mount Pleasant
Nacogdoches Vs. Lufkin
Crandall Vs. Hallsville
Jacksonville Vs. Brownsboro

Some really tough games for several district teams this week.

Marshall, Texas High, and Whitehouse are all facing top 10 teams.

Nac isn't facing a top 10, but they are facing an angry loaded LP team.

The Lindale/MP is very intriguing looking.

The Crandall/Hallsville game could prove to be very competitive.

This week's game for Jacksonville may show us the depths of which the Indians have fallen.  If they lose to Brownsboro this week one has to believe that (0-10) isn't out of the question.

Predictions and thoughts?

Longview - I really feel like Marshall can keep this one more competitive than in recent years. But 8 years in a row for the Lobos and most of them blowouts is hard to pick against.

Texas High - This one is going to be very interesting. LCA is led by former Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten and stars his 2 sons. They were undefeated TAPPS state champs last year and started the season in dominate form. If the Tigers can win this one it will show they are for real.

Kilgore - After an impressive win against powerhouse Carthage the Dogs should take care of business barring a hangover letdown.

Lindale - After hanging on to beat Hallsville last week, the Eagles make it 2-0 against the district.

Lufkin - This one might get ugly. If Nac can keep it close it will show the Dragons are on the way up.

Crandall - Like Lindale, they will improve their record to 2-0 against the district.

Brownsboro - Like Mavchamp said, Jax may not win a game this year.

Kilgore beats that school by Tyler

Week 2
Longview Vs. Marshall-  Obviously my being a die-hard fan wants to see my Mavericks win this game.  But the reality of things is that Longview has dominated the series since 2001 to the tune of (1-22).  The lone win was in 2015 and outside of maybe 4 games in the last 22 losses, they have been blowouts.  Inevitably a close game at halftime devolves into a blowout.  I do think Longview has more talent than Marshall most seasons.  40-50 points more?  It seems like it's become a mental block.  Most definitely pulling for the Mavs....but betting against the Lobos in the current situation of the series makes no sense.  At this point I'd be thrilled with a close, competitive game to reinvigorate both fan bases.  Longview wins.

Texas High Vs. Liberty Christian-  The Tigers came out firing on all cylinders last week against a clearly inferior Tyler Legacy team.  THS' offense was in midseason form while the defense had the clamps down all night long on a massive Legacy OL.  This week they take on a defending state champion from TAPPS.  Both teams are loaded with D-1 talent.  The question for me is.... is there a talent gap between TAPPS and UIL?  And if there is...how much?  At the end of the day....LC deserves all the respect they can get:  State Champions.  But THS looked like a well oiled machine last week.  I can't shake the visions of what private schools like Evangel and Dallas Jesuit have done in the past..... but the Tigers are just too good to pick againt.  Texas High wins.

Whitehouse Vs. Kilgore-  I've given WH grief for their week non-district schedule the last few years.... stacking up big wins against inferior teams before district play.  While that continued that trend last week when they opened against Dallas Wilson.... they are making up for it this week with Kilgore.  The Wildcats stomped Wilson last week.  Traditionally speaking.... most DISD schools are terrible.  Wilson would no doubt be in the bottom half of district 7-5A.  This week WH is taking on the cream of the crop with the Bulldogs, who are coming off a thrilling win over Carthage.  The Kilgore defense held Carthage to only 15 points.  The WH offense ran wild last week....I don't see that happening this week.  Not to mention St. John Stadium is tough to win at.  KILGORE WINS.

Lindale Vs. Mount Pleasant-  This might be the most evenly matched game this week IMHO.  Lindale is coming off a big win over Hallsville while MP is coming off a tough loss on the road to Crandall.  I was shocked to see MP's offense play as well as it did in its first game without Mason McMinn.... but the turnover bug bit them.  The MP defense gave up a lot of yards (and points) to a Crandall team we honestly don't know how good they are.  Meanwhile Lindale got into a shootout with Hallsville.  Wasn't expecting that considering the Bobcats were 1-9 last season.  I honestly wouldn't be shocked to see either team win this game.  But Lindale is the program with tradition and knowing how to win (see last week) while MP is still working towards that.  LINDALE WINS.

Nacogdoches Vs. Lufkin-   As much as Longview has dominated Marshall.... Lufkin's domination of Nacogdoches has been exponentially more.  Lufkin is coming off a stinging 7-3 defensive battle loss to arch-rival Longview while Nac is coming off a dominating win over Palestine.  Nac hasn't won a game at Abe Martin Stadium in recent memory (anyone know?).  Lufkin's offense is hobbled without their QB-1 right now, but they have a five star defense to spell them until he returns.  Nac is still trying to figure their new offense out and their defense, while strong last week against an inferior team, was one of the worst in 7-5A last season.  LP is mad from last week.... they are at home again.... and they are hosting their favorite punching bag.  LUFKIN WINS.

Crandall Vs. Hallsville-  This game has the same vibe as the MP/Lindale game for me.  I'm expecting a really close, exciting game here.  Hallsville came out firing last week against Lindale.... nearly doubling their PPG average from last season.  Unfortunately their defense is still giving up points in bushels.  Crandall jumped out to a big lead over MP last week and had to hold on for the win.  Like the MP/Lindale game.... I wouldn't be shocked to see either of them win.  The Bobcats will need their defense to stand up to get this win.... because Crandall's passing game is expected to be good.  The question is... can Crandall stop Mr. Bolden?  Hallsville need to prove they can win some close games.  CRANDALL WINS.

Jacksonville Vs. Brownsboro-   It's hard to imagine that Jax rushed for over 300 yards last week Vs. Center and still lost....mostly due to turnovers and poor defense.  Brownsboro hasn't had a winning season since 2010.  This might be the Indian's best chance at a win this week.  Their passing game needs to come around.  Brownsboro is coming off a 35-0 loss to Quinlan Ford.  I feel like I shouldn't pick them given their struggles....but the 300 yards they had last week against Center gives me a glimpse that the Indians might be able to move the ball against the smaller squad.  I'll apprehensively take Jacksonville.  Ugh.  JACKSONVILLE WINS.

Jax had 5 turnovers including a pick 6. 3 of their 4 fumbles were unforced…. Center had nothing to do causing those 3. Just didn’t handle the ball.

3 turnovers in 1st quarter alone resulted in 17 points for Center on short field drives of 23, 32, and 37. It was ugly right off the bat and that’s why turnovers are such killers.

Hard to believe by the score, but JAX defense shut down Center the whole game running the ball. JAX gave up 3 long TD passes.

2nd half Center scored once and JAX had a defensive TD late.

I excuses….Jacksonville must do better ….. and that starts with not turning over the ball.

Give Center credit. They took advantage of every one of them. Center has some dudes. QB can throw!

Tis true.  330-ish yards of offense and ZERO points isn't easy to do.  But nothing will make that happen quicker than turnovers.

Brownsboro (IMHO) isn't as strong as Center....so there's no reason for Jacksonville to not be able to take advantage and get the win.  If they don't get it this week.....It's going to be hard to find a win anywhere on the schedule barring a monumental upset.

Crazy to me where this once proud program is at right now.  ANY fanbase that thinks "it won't happen to us" is fooling themselves.  It CAN happen to anyone.

Man I told my kids who play football when I was in school Jax was one of the teams that ruled the roost. They were always in the playoffs. They couldn't believe it !

Week 3 Games
Texas High Vs. Midlothian Heritage- Hard to pick against a team that keeps on making it look easy.  THS has rolled offensively in both of their first two games.  Until someone finds a way to stop them.... then I'll keep on picking them to win.  All that being said...Heritage is a top notch team/program.  They are no strangers to DEEP playoff runs year after year.  So they will be tough.  BUUUUT.......  TEXAS HIGH WINS.

Chapel Hill Vs. Whitehouse-  This is a rivalry game so anything is possible.... but CH is the team with all the pedigree here while WH is still kind of a big question mark.  They blew out a completely inferior Dallas ISD team to open the season, but struggled against kilgore.  BUT....it's Kilgore.  Are the WH as good as they looked against Wilson or are they as bad as they looked against Kilgore?  I'm guessing in the middle.  CHAPEL HILL WINS.

Marshall Vs. Tyler Legacy-  Marshall looked stellar against Tyler in that 41-14 win.  But they really struggled against Longview last week.  A 14-7 game at halftime turned into a 42-7 blowout.  The offense struggled....and the defense just gor worn down in the second half.  Legacy's size in concerning.  They are MUCH bigger on both the offensive and defensive lines.  Marshall will need their speed.  Legacy's defense is questionable.  MARSHALL WINS.

Hallsville Vs. Corsicana-  Hallsville's offense seems to be ahead of where they were this time last season... but their defense seems to continue to be an issue.  They are giving up a lot of points at 33.5 PPG.  About the same as last season.  They are scoring 25.5 PPG.  THis game is draw for me TBH.  But Corsicana played Waco tough last week.  The Tiger defense looks strong but their offense is iffy.  Neither winning would shock me.  CORSICANA WINS.

Livingston Vs. Nacogdoches-  Nac if coming off a dominating loss to Lufkin.  They are facing an unfamiliar opponent in Livingston.  Both teams are struggling right now.... The Dragon offense is looking for an identity.  Their defense is coming off a poor performance.  This is another game I think could go either way....but since Nac is playing at home for homecoming I'll take the Dragons.  NACOGDOCHES WINS.

Mount Pleasant Vs. Terrell-  Another tough game to call.  MP's offense seems to be having trouble getting any traction.  Their defense is keeping them in games, but they need some help.  Penalties are killing the.m.  Terrell has proven to be a bit of a thorn in the side of this district.... tough road game for MP.  Just like Hallsville/Corsi and Livingston/Nac.... either team winning wouldn't shock.  Terrell is at home...so I'll take the red Tigers.  TERRELL WINS.

Henderson Vs. Jacksonville- The Indians got a long awaited and much needed win last week.  They seem to have a pretty good running game developing based on their first two games.  The passing game is a work in progress.  But defense has been their achilles heel the last few years.  That's bad news with Henderson coming to town.  The Lions have a strong running game and an efficient passing game.  Lions should handle Jax.  HENDERSON WINS.
